Woolworths Fuel Discount Lockout

I live across form Coles and naturally get most of our groceries there as well as use their fuel discount.
Today to my horror Coles has raised the fuel price by 11 cents per litre while Woolworths had the old price.
So I drove over to Woolworth and spent $40 odd to be over the $30 one needs to get what they call instant fuel discount.
So the check out attendant loaded the discount onto our orange card and we then pumped fuel in their backyard as we done before when they were noticeable cheaper.

Paying for the fuel I was told: Too bad our computers are slower than you and you have come in too early and have to pay full price for the fuel!

They told me the discount would start tomorrow but I was told of an instant discount!

So hos long is an instant and just wondering if Woolworths is deceptive by telling me in the aftermath??

Has this happened to anybody else??

How long does it take for a fuel discount to be added to my account?

Your standard 4c per litre fuel discount is ready to use within 15 minutes! If you receive a special fuel offer via email, other conditions may apply.

    From Woolies Rewards FAQ

Sometimes when Coles/Woolworths servos have put at their prices by large amounts it is better to fill up where they still have a lower price. I wouldn't have taken the risk that the Woolworths price would be the same after I did my shopping.

Your still in front of the Coles price.

      thanks,
all them dumbo's queuing at Coles express to be ripped off and there was no wait at Woollies. Wish there was so I had the discount. Even their carpark looked deserted as most folks up here are broke from the festive season.
Meanwhile installed their crappy app on my android and surprise no password needed with points and discount showing.
Actually Caltex is much better fuel than Shell, I had 3 Corolla's and they kept pinging with Shell unleaded not every tank full but more often than not. No other fuel made them knocking with BP probably the better one so the future might brighten.
Also most Shell fuel hoses keep shaking on what feels like bubbles getting thru and who want's to pay for air?

      • The people at Coles Express might have special offers so makes it cheaper than Woolworths.

  • They have also sold all their petrol stations to BP so expect the discounts to disappear altogether (eventually). BP is usually a few cents more expensive around town for some reason and my car seems to prefer the Caltex fuel that the Woolies stations currently sell. (off topic?)

Woolies are becoming the laughing stock of this nation. Bought 20 Dick Smith stores for 20 millions, selling 250 of them for the same money, real bargain!

Had a go at hardware, ran 2 separate brand names under the same Hydrox Pty Ltd only to be embattled with a legal fight with their Yank partner. Even a first year accountant apprentice would have done a better job lol. Oops 5 or 6 billions gone!

So the heads rolled on top and we all got to pay for their incompetence!

Fuel voucher is $0.04/L, is it really worth the hassle? Do you own a Landcruiser or something else with big tanks? On a family car that's around $2.50 on a totally full tank. So less than 2L, or less than 20kms travel on a family car.

I doubt the servo was even the cheapest around compared to non-fuel docket servos (you've only compared 2 servos and a lot of the time non-WW Caltex's are cheaper than WW Caltex)

I guarantee something at WW was more expensive than Coles, negating the fuel discount entirely

    • I indeed own a Landcruiser which our son drives and I have to put up with a crappy old Camry. There are independent servo's and what once was a local chain got sold to the Yanks but for the moment they honour most shopping dockets. Trouble is they are out of my way. And I needed urgent fuel for my lawn mower.
And Woolies had my coffee capsules for half price, reasonable priced chocolate but the tuna somebody put up for $1 was $4 in our local store.

    711 fuel lock.
    114.7 for 91

  • You could contact them direct, via facebook or message in Facebook. Depends if you wish to punish. Or maybe get result you want

  • Here in rural N/E Victoria I'm paying $1.32/l for 91 and apparently it's only going to go up..I would take the bus ,,oh wait there aren't any..guess I need to get a hybrid Prius or something to replace the Subaru..
I do get 4c/l off for spending $30 at the local IGA though but that only brings it down to $1.28/l.that's life I guess.
    Cheers

I am assuming the problem is that the 4c fuel offer is taking time to load onto your Woolworths card.

Next time, if you need to use the fuel voucher fairly soon, when you shop, don't offer your Woolworths Card. Then the 4c voucher will be printed at the end of the receipt. Then, you should be able to use it straightaway at Woolworths petrol, since it has a barcode.

Thanks for your warning, I also thought that the offer goes on pretty much straightaway.

That was my thought too. Perhaps OP wanted the ER points too.

      • Yes, fair enough. So, only if you need the fuel voucher in a hurry.

Why not call them up tomorrow? They will probably "compensate" you with an e-gift card or similar.

Woolies petrol can enter the 4c discount manually.
I didn't get one the other day (despite having made numerous $30+ shops in the last month) and the cashier said, no worries and applied it.

    • Although it can be done, my guess is it depends on whether the customer personnel who serves you knows how to do it. And the willingness to do so. Just like going through the manned supermarket checkout. If I get 20 of the same items, some checkout staff will do one scan, and enter code to multiply 20 times. Others will scan one by one, 20 times.

If you're in NSW use the Fuel Check service to find the cheapest petrol near you. Most independents are far cheaper than Coles or Woolworths.

    • +2

But the 5% egiftcard making a big different

  • You really went to all this hassle to save maybe $2.80 (70 litres @ 4c a litre) on your petrol purchase?

  • +1

You could just go to the carpark and get a discount docket out of a trolley

    • They are hard to find. Most dockets say it has been added to your rewards card.

  • Woollies and Coles fuel discounts are mostly false economy as the independents can be up to 8c cheaper!
