Pokemon TCG ROARING SKIES Re-Print. Expensive Set Now $100~110 USD + $19 USD Postage Various eBay Sellers. Est. Release 14th Jan

150

For Pokemon players out there, this is a miracle. Roaring Skies is having more boxes produced! No longer do you need to pay 300-400$ for a chance at the dirty hedgehog EX.
Details aren't clear on how much is being produced, for how long, and whether it's a one-time reproduction. Or even if AUS seller will get stock - only US retailers are confirmed at the moment.

The release date is "second week of January" - not concrete.

A few sellers on eBay with stock:

I bought 3 boxes for 150$ AU each with combined postage, but prices are going up little by little. You can look outside of eBay, but I haven't found any with reasonable postage.

Are you serious? I didn't know they were getting reprinted! Maybe means I can finally get a Shaymin without having to remortgage a house XD.

  • Is it worth buying a few boxes to cash in?

    • +1

Well, it depends on how much they make.

If this is a very limited re-print, the box value could double back up quickly.
If the run is enough to bring prices down to par with other sets, then you will likely make a profit from opening the box and selling contents (unless you get terrible draws) since the cards are highly sought after, regardless of print amount (Mewtwo cards from Breakthrough, for example, sell for a lot, despite easy availability of the set).

Either way, it seems worth buy something.

    • wont shaymins be out of rotation near the end of this year? not sure if they will be worth much next year

      • Probably not, but it's such an important card for play, it will hold value up until the last moment. Also, expanded format will still use it.

  • Sweet, bought two boxes!

  • +5

This sounds like a "Set Up".

I don't know, man. At least you will get a "Sky Return" on your investment.

    Ummm… why?

    Is this really a bargain?

    • From 350$ to 150$, so…yes?

  • clicking on the first 2 they say use THANKS20 and get AUD$20 off.

  • I love how all top 8 decks from 2016 had Shaymin EX in them.

Is there anywhere in Oz where you can play this tcg without being laughed at? Im pretty keen, but pretty old too.

    • What city you in?

      • Sydney.

        • LOL

Not been to any sydney ones, but if its anything like Melbourne there will be a group of 20-35 year old players, usually ones that have been playing since they were kids, that regularly come down on sunday morning to play.

Best time to start is on the release of a new deck. They do a tournament thing where you buy a couple of boosters at a really good price, make a deck from it and then play everyone. Because the cards everyone is given is random, nobody has much time to strategise and build crazy unstoppable decks, so its much easier for a newbie and much more fun.

Fair warning, my info maybe a little outdated. I last played 5 years ago, and gave up pretty quickly when I realized I wouldn't be able to win the adult division just by showing up (winner of the state tournament match gets a free trip to America)

Perth people can get regular games at Retro at Coventry.

Not a player but observe the seriousness that happens on game day while eating a bratwurst.

      • +1

Please tell me more about the bratwurst…

    • For every booster pack/special box etc that you buy you're given an online-code to play the TCG through their website. If you're worried about getting taunted/meeting (profanity), you could definitely buy some product and play/start there (or purchase the codes online for around $1/ea).

    • Just like me.

Play online with PTGCO (http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-tcg/play-online/), do the trainer challenges and you will get plenty of boosters and enough coins to get a Theme deck.

Play "Versus" mode in Theme format. That way you'll be able to compete on a somewhat level playing field for no cost.

So was this set better than most of the others or just more rare? (I don't know much about pokemon cards).

    • This set has Shaymin EX, which due to it's high demand and low supply commands a $40+ price for a single card.

        *60+

        • +1

          Yeah, I was being a bit conservative…

    • +1

It also has Trainers' Mail, one of the best trainer cards, and Rayquaza/Mega Rayquaza for a powerful deck, along with several other great cards.

  • Where do people normally buy Pokemon TCG boxes? Is ebay the best bet?

Any online retailers like starcitygames.com is for Magic cards?

    • ozgameshop
