  • The MX Master a better mouse?

    • +4

I personally will always go wired for a gaming mouse. Personal preference and then i can't blame a delay when i play awful

    • Depends what you mean by better.

It could be if you don't play games since this has some features you probably won't use such as on-the-fly DPI adjustment but it's not precluded from being a good mouse for normal usage.

If you mainly play MOBA or RTS style games there are mice that have more buttons that might be better depending on the player.

    • MX Master was recently cheaper.

    • +2

The MX Master and G502 fill different categories. The MX Master is more of a luxurious general (browsing, spreadsheets, etc.) day-to-day mouse aimed to be used by anyone and on various desk surfaces (e.g. glass, wood), while the G502 is a gaming mouse with associated gaming centric software.

If you are looking for a comparison from a gaming point of a view, the G502 will be a far better choice and even though it's slightly heavier than other gaming mice and less "clean" design wise, it will perform better and it's surprisingly more comfortable than it looks. The MX Master can be used for gaming if desired, however I wouldn't use it for FPS or any other games that require lots of quick movements and clicking.

tl dr; For gaming go the G502, otherwise for everyday use the MX Master is great.

    • For FPS/RTS games, I would recommended to go with a lighter wired mouse such as the G502.

Absolutely love this mouth, I highly recommend it.

For my studies and essay writings, being able to assign a simple copy function to left tilt of the scroll wheel and a paste function to the right tilt makes copy and paste so much more stream line.

At a touch of a button you can change the customised profiles, so that tilting the scroll wheel changes the DPS settings for gaming.

Assign the buttons above your thumb to reload and melee and FPS games become a great experience.

Being able to assign pause, forward and back for music is a neat feature as well.

This mouse is comfortable, can have its weight adjusted and performs everything you want it to.

  • How does this compare between the razer mamba? Not really needing the buttons as much, but rather just the feel of the mouse in the hand

    • +2

Well the Razers are trash and these aren't so…

      • Mamba is a trash mouse, but the 3500DPI Deathadder is on the same sensor quality tier as this one.

    • +1

The Mamba has a slightly higher arch and from memory is better suited to medium-to-large hands. Weight-wise they would be near one another, as the G502 is surprisingly heavy for a wired mouse, although comfortable, even if it doesn't look it. Tracking wise, the G502 sensor is regarded as better than the Razer counterparts. Ideally you'll want to try out the feel in person if you can as everyone is different.

As someone who stopped buying Razer technology, my advice would be to look at Logitech, Steelseries, etc. instead as Razer can be hit and miss with their quality which has dropped in recent times. That said there are 2 Razer products I have no problem recommending: their mousepads and the optical Deathadder mouse.

  • The only thing i liked about the MX Master is the smart shift where hyper scroll engages automatically. Any gaming mouse with a gaming sensor will out perform the MX Master's inferior sensor.
If you really dont need MX Master's smart shift, bluetooth connection to 3 devices and thumb scroll then i dont see a reason why you wouldn't get a gaming mouse instead. Gaming mice can be used for browsing too…

    • The only thing i liked about the MX Master is the smart shift where hyper scroll engages automatically

Wouldn't this be bad for gaming? I'm always annoyed when gaming and accidentally leave hyperscroll on, with my M950. I've been tossing up between the MX Master and G900 because of a few issues, that one included.

      • You can set hyperscroll to on, off, automatic so its well implemented on the MX Master. Off engages the ratchet full time so you feel the notches when you scroll. Auto is fun you just flick it quickly and hyperscroll engages automatically then turns off when the wheel slows down. Super useful.
