Samsung Series 8 UA55KS8000 55" (SUHD/HDR/LED/200hz) Smart TV $1459.99 @ Costco Docklands VIC (Membership Required)

440

My 1st post so please dont be too harsh. Went into Costco this evening and noticed that the Samsung 55 SUHD TV (UA55KS8000) price had been dropped to $1459.99.

I grabbed two of them and noticed about 5-6 remaining. The Costco lady said they reduced the price yesterday. At $1459.99 this beats Harvey Norman and JBHI deals, but only possible if one has the Costco membership that costs $60.

Hope this helps someone who couldn't get a hold of one from the other deals. Not sure if you can price match with Costco at HN or JB?

  • I have a pic of the price and the receipt but not sure on how to get it to show. I had tried to upload on the post creation.

  • These guys and their 'membership required' bullshit. Don't they know these were selling between $1,480-$1,490 all week long, with no membership requirement?

      $20 is $20.

    • +1

Consider the membership $60 as replacement warranty year on year as long as you want it. I feel it's value for money as you get you money back even if the tv fails after 10 yrs.

      • Is that the case though? Will they fix or change the unit if it goes dud even after the manufacturer's warranty expires? I doubt that.

        • Yes they do a refund.

        • @apple2016: An open-end refund policy that never expires? Come on, dude! They would have been out of business by now. All businesses do (by law) refund, but it has always limitations.

        • +1

          @AussieDaddy:

          Nah their warranty is great.

I have taken a few items I bought and got refund or replaced for new one if they had stock, no questions asked. Some of them from when they opened up even.

        • @AussieDaddy:

as long as you've held a membership with them the whole period, then yes, they will refund you if you're not happy with the product(ie. if it breaks down 5-10 years later). Ask one of their reps at the store yourself, they'll tell you the same thing. Just this year when I was wandering around, I saw someone had brought back a couch that was about 5 years old(from what I could overhear of the conversation), and they were getting their money back.

        • +1

@Kenb0: WOW! Didn't know that. If their products are affordable and with good quality, that $60 annual membership cost is worth it then. Ta

        • +1

@Kenb0: be careful,my experience with them recently is… No extended warranty

        • +1

I can confirm this, I returned my first Samsung 55" TV after 4yrs, got full refund of $2500 straight back into my bank account. They did not even inspect the TV when I took it back there, just asked what was wrong and then asked for my membership card and credit card. Quick and easy.

        • @777: Makes sense. But we would rather throw tantrums if faced with reality. Lol

        • @jnwmaung: what was the issue with tv? Is it external or internal?

        • @rakhi:
I think it was software, it kept resetting itself haha. Almost like a PC rebooting. But only happened a few times far and apart but was quite annoying if you were in middle of watching something. So when I took it back, I said the TV keeps rebooting itself.

          @jnwmaung: ok..

Apparently they've changed their policy: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/285094

Funny thing is, I am not a Costco member, nor did I ever buy anything from them, but it just seemed self-subotaging and unsustainable policy to me. Your typical angry OzBargainers responded with negs. Just read what the posters in that thread said on how often they returned stuff to Costco in order to get the latest model, and the fact that Costco stopped that generous policy in the US just for that same reason. It's just common sense.

        • -1

          @AussieDaddy:

Nah, it doesn't take an angry Ozbargainer to neg your comment.

People were talking from experience and to the policy which up until recently was exactly as they said. It's always frustrating when someone brings in conjecture to an argument, plus you seem to be quite proud of your ignorance that you aren't a member and haven't bought anything from them..

Tone down the rhetoric next time and you won't be negged.

FYI I didn't neg your comment.

        • @Bargain Hunter 007: Isn't it weird that my ignorance in my early assumption turned out to be true as to why an open-ended refund/exchange policy is unsustainable in the long run? It doesn't take a rocket scienctist to see how it would be abused, hence my disbelief. And by the way, you weren't even in this discussion (unless you have multiple accounts) so what bringing conjecture into an argument are you talking about? I wasn't aware that a company would adopt such a crazy policy, and that's why I questioned it. You can be here 24/7 and neg all my comments if you want, mate. What bloody difference does it make?

        • -2

          @AussieDaddy:

I was just explaining why you were negged, but as I stated I didn't neg you.

          … I'll leave it there.

      • umm what are you all talking about, the Australian cosumer law which has been around for YEARS.. IS your warranty….you are entirely covered under this law law…regardless of whatever garbage the retailer or manufacturer wants to tell you…. Retailers have been trying to SELL you extended warranties for years knowing that the consumer already has this right already. It play into their push to uneducate the consumer making them think that "once their 1 year warranty is over" even 1 week after that they are out of luck and ohh well the tv is dead we're unlucky…, you are covered for YEARS under Australian consumer law and it's actually UNLAWFUL meaning against the law if the sales rep or manager at the particular store refuse it. Good luck with your warranties! This 5 min video shown on the ABC show the Checkout tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. https://youtu.be/uE8BB-ioNRw

too little too late..I asked them if they matched they didnt so I bought elsewhere..

    • -1

Yeah.. it would be helpful if Costco came to the party a bit more with this type of thing.

  • +6

Also dont forget the Costco warranty
as long as you are a member and it breaks down
you are covered when normal warranty finishes

    • -6

that's why I went first to costco, but they would not come to the party.

Lets hope this sammy lasts more than 2 years…

I sometimes wonder why I bother to pay 60 bucks a year for..

      • +1

Not sure what you mean by "coming to the party", you expected them to price match or something?

    • This is such a good point IMO. It's like getting a free "extended warranty" like they try and sell you everywhere else.

For me, the only annoying thing is getting it home vs. being able to get delivery elsewhere.

    • Manufacturer's warranty only according to a recent forum post.

    Is this the same TV?

    • ok

  • well thats how they are keeping the prices high for new models…… really i think that they arnt trying that hard,… oled is way over priced, its a joke.

  • I got mine for $1465 @ harvey norman liverpool a few days ago.

  • oled in 2 years i hope…75 inches for 3.5k..wishful thinking…

    • They'll be giving them away when everyone dreams of a laser projector.

      • Im personally waiting for the back to the future tv (the pull down one) to get to a reasonable price before i pull the plug

    if anyone interested.
    Samsung KS8005 60" is $1,969.99 ($2649.99 - $680) @ Docklands Costco too

  • Great TV for this price!
Just finished helping set one up for a family member. They bought along with the Samsung k651 soundbar, makes for a good combo. The soundbar is also on special at HN this week.

Really made me want to grab one for myself… just not the right time for me to upgrade. So tempting though!

  • +1

Was really hoping to get this from JB but the guy i spoke to thinks it will be on back order until march!

  • $1485 @GG Chaddy.

    • Did they have any in stock?

      • 2 days ago yes…

  • +1

TGG did match Costco's price for me 2 years ago a month after I bought a TV from them, and refunded the difference plus 10%, only based on a mobile photo, worth asking.

  • Nice post OP

  • Is this the 8000 series that everyone says is the best in the Samsung range?

    • "best"….there is a new 9 series, friend got a 55" few days ago from JB for around $2500
      Costco Docklands also have KS9000 65" for $3489.99 ($3959.99 - $470)

      • I think GG ebay (with 20% off) had the best deal on that just a few weeks…from memory it was around the $2k mark…im still kicking myself for not getting it

      • The 9 series came out at the same time as the 8 series. Reports were that the 9 series is better, but only by a small amount, and the price difference between the 8 series and the 9 series was unjustified.

        • Thanks everybody. I should have clarified 'best' a bit better but you have answered my question. Miles better than the 5-7 range but not far off the 9. So possibly the best value for money for the quality. Maybe the 8000 series is the sweet spot and if so then $1,460 is a good buy.

  • Is it worth getting this TV for the picture quality when you can get a 65" TV for similar price?

    • you need to go and check it out, only YOUR eyes will tell you if it's good enough..

I could have bought an aldi tv to 500 bucks…but my eyes could tell the difference.

If Samsung didn't lower their price it was going to be a Hisense tv for me.

It all depends if you think paying 1K more(or the extra inches) is worth it.

      Mixo

      • depends on your situation, I didn't have the space for a 65" and it's almost $1k more atm

  • Good price for available stock. Here in WA, Jbhifi, Good Guys, Harvey Norman, Kambos and Retravision are all sold out (55"). Myers had some, but theyre selling at full price still…

    • I checked Myer today as well… WTF

  • cheaper at Betta electrical (and get CashRewards 3.2% as well) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/285156

  • Do they have the 65"?

  • Is this tv still available at this price in Costco?
