More plastic crap to fill that 3rd drawer with all the other useless junk.

Learn to separate an egg using the shell and you will look cool.

True ozbargainers keep the 14c and use the hand method

  • NICE… loving the egg seperator

    • +1

A plastic bottle (like you buy water in) works really well. Simply squeeze the sides, place over the yolk and release. It sucks it up like a vacuum cleaner yet keeps it whole (and you can do a heap without emptying it).

  • I still haven't received my earphones that were shipped on the 21/11.

  • bought one of those motorcycle throttle control things. might make the long weekend rides a bit more enjoyable

    • +1

I haven't seen these kind of things for decades, but last time I checked they were actually pretty dangerous…

      • +1

I wouldn't think these are safe, otherwise manufacturers would have these on their bikes standard

        • +1

Yeah been riding for years and can't see how anyone could see this as a safe item, it may work to keep the throttle on, but in an emergency letting go of the throttle should close it.

        • +1

@Jackson: I bought one of these recently, had a carpal tunnel injury in my wrist. They don't actually lock the grip in any position. Instead of having to "strangle" the grip and turn it to accelerate, you can turn the grip by pushing down with your wrist with a light to no-grip of the handle. If you need to reduce or eliminate power, simply lift your wrist, it will return to idle. Your wrist basically assumes the same position it would when you grip the handle and turn it, it basically just supplies an additional point of contact on the handle. It takes a couple of goes to get used to it but it makes cruising a lot more comfortable as you don't need to keep a stranglehold on the throttle, just a gentle hold for steering and control. The thing to be careful of is that you lift your wrist high enough to idle the throttle before braking, it is easy to lean on it slightly and still accelerate a bit while braking. It will go away as you get used to it.

      • we'll see. i currently have a throttle lock mechanism installed so i can set the throttle at a certain spot, for when im on the highway for a while & stop my wrist getting sore. even then, i only use that when i have the road to myself. this device seems a bit safer if anything

        • +1

I have both. A throttle lock (search Vista Cruise) which holds the throttle in a certain position, but you need to flick the lever with your thumb to deactivate it when you are braking etc. That's the only potential point of danger — if you forget to disengage. I really only use it for short periods on the freeway if I need to use my right hand to adjust a mirror etc. The other device is potentially safer in that all you need to do is lift your wrist to a higher position to allow the throttle grip to return to idle. It's the same position you normally put your wrist when you slow down and get ready to brake. The only problem I found is you might get lazy and not lift the wrist completely before braking. Just something you need to be aware of and get used to.

        • @endotherm:

That's the only potential point of danger — if you forget to disengage.

That's the only salient point, anything being used as a 'cruise control' needs to disengage as soon as you touch the brake.

        • @StewBalls: I agree fully, it would be nice if manufacturers actually included these devices with a mechanism connected to the brake lever, rather than rely on aftermarket devices. I wouldn't have one if I weren't comfortable with my ability to use it safely. I rely on muscle memory where it is second-nature and a mindless autonomic response. Just like releasing the throttle prior to hitting the brake (even in an emergency) is something that just happens without thinking about it.

    • Probably for wheelie control

dont use them. Be in control of your throttle. Be safe mate rubber side down

  • For those interested the Xiaomi Smart Mi Home kit mostly works with Home Assistant now which opens up a massive number of options. It's still in beta so it has to be added manually.

For example I use mine with a Yeelight RGBW and have one click of the Xiaomi wireless button switch between four different lighting scenes and a long click turn off the lights, media player and TV. You could also have it monitor the room's temperature and once it reaches a limit switch on a fan via the zigbee plug, or an AC unit that can be controlled via wifi.

    https://home-assistant.io/

The Gateway radio function still can't be controlled yet but given how new the development is it shouldn't be too long and hopefully we'll be able to use it with Google TTS so it can be used to announce or read things.
