go to head-fi.org and you'll be surprised :)

      • +1

I'd like to know what music source and amp people might use with these? Certainly wouldnt want to compromise there. Better budget another $5000 to drive these.

        • +1

I have a FF album, that is a 4 minutes melody for around 600 mb. you can hear more details with HIFI or midfi or just usual headphones.

        • @Hsinking:
interesting. What format is it, and what does your set up look like? What are popular ways people source hi bitrate music?

        • -1

          @chyawala:
          flac/wav/iso

        • @chyawala:

I was typing my set up but deleted my words to avoid looking like a show off, source could be found and downloaded for free, an entry level 200 bucks+ headphone could be good enough to lead you into the lossless music world.

        • It all depends on your budget. :)
While I consider myself audiophile, I don't have the wisdom (yet) to recommend a specific amp or dac to pair with this particular headphone. One main reason would be my main headphone for critical listening is not this expensive. But I would strongly suggest you to read-up a lot at head-fi.org or headfonia.com. The type of music you listen to also makes a difference. Music source for this level of headphone would definitely flac, wav, all the way to 24-192 files. If you have good pair of ears that can tell the difference, those are the type of files you would play with. Listening to 320kbps mp3 file using this headphone would be like going to school driving a ferrari. Argument between listening the difference of 320kbps mp3 and flac would be another topic for another day, for the elitist and sound scientist. I personally would never go that far, just enjoy the music with your fav headphone.

I can't believe someone wrote a review and said "Still prefer my beats". Idiotic!

Lol "Don't waste your hard earned money on an appreciating asset - better to spend it on a depreciating one instead!" Yeah peace out new age hipster of wisdom and all-knowing. Btw if your opening blurb was in jest then I fully apologize :)

    • You're not serious are you..? Of course it was in jest.

      • Wouldn't have included a disclaimer if I was. It was sarcasm dude, though still truth in essence. Some dont get it tho hence the negging. lolz

    • -2

I guess theres a few new age wanna-be fag all-knowing hipsters in the crowd who cant decipher basic sarcasm so they jump on the neg button. grats boys :) :) :) :) :)

  • +2

Surely a pricing error, better get it quick before they fix it

  • Hmmmmm.. this or this : https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/products/final-audio-lab-ii-b…
The second you don't need the amp for a phone, but cleaning the ear wax afterwards may get tiring

  • +1

Would these make me look like a hipster?

  • Thanks OP, bought 2!

  • +1

As fun as all the hilarious shitposting is, it is important to note that these are primarily for music enthusiasts and professionals who have "supporting" equipment (DACs AMPs etc) that would be appropriate. :) Not for the average OzBer rocking Apple ibuds/philips crapphones from the bargain bin.

So it is not akin to something ridiculous like the $13k Monster USB cables.

  • +2

It suddenly dawned on me today that i just had this huge (profanity)-off wad of cash sitting in a Uni savings account for my kids. It's never done anything for me. The lazy pile of cash has just sat there and never done a thing for anyone in my family. So i withdrew the entire lot and purchased a set of these with the money instead.

Now each night as I fall to sleep watching the SBS news on my laptop, you wouldn't believe just how much better the sound is with these plugged in to the side of my laptop, compared to my janky old Sony earbuds. Thanks OP & thanks OzBargain. It's posts like these why I keep coming back.

  • could be an investment. my AKG K1000 was bought for $800 back in the day and its worth around $1500+ now?

    • +1

someone sold me a pair of k701s which i bought for $300 back in 2009, which were $999 in 2007. Now they're worth $199.
it's almost akin to stock picking.

  • i thought a dot was missing in the middle in the price. i need to coat my ear with gold before try this.

    • Yup, that decimal would have to move at least two places before it got my attention…

  • +1

So many up vote. This is a bargain. I must resist getting one.

  • These are awesome. When I get off my el cheapo car wearing these, people stop and look at my car as if I have just got off a Ferrari.

  • I'll buy a Honda civic for myself instead

  • Why is this getting a lot of +'s?? Has anyone actually bought one??

    • -5

many have bought it, lot of people like to get scammed

      • +1

To be clear absolutely nobody on here has actually bought one. That's pretty damn obvious.

      • +1

        No one is getting scammed.:)

It's just that the run-of-the-mill OzBer is more interested in rechargeable AA/AAA batteries than high-end prosumer audio gear. :) Wrong audience.

  • Make sure you get one of these:

    https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/cables/products/c…

Or it won't be anywhere near as clear as you need it to be.

  • -1

I saw on the internets that Dr Dre has a pair. Must be even betterer than Beats.

  • -5

Terrible headphones, i own 2 and both failed when i went underwater

  • +5

What advantages do these headphones have over say… a train? Which I could also afford.

    • +5

These headphones have better drivers. Made of gold. What are train drivers made of? Puny flesh.

  • I mean, I'd love to hear what they sound like, but I think I'll stick to my lowly HE 400i's.

  • Does it support 4K UHD? How many HDMI ports?

  • I'm surprised there are lots of + votes. OzLuxuryBargain?

    • +2

      OzBaaaaahgain is more like it…

  • +1

Grab one of these headphones so that you can take a break and listen to sounds that you like.

Or use them to drown-out the sound of all of your possessions being repossessed because you spent 5K on headphones.

  • Thanks, just bought two

  • +6

All gags aside, this is actually a great pair of cans and it's a decent price for within aus if you are looking for this combo.

  • hate to say it but those are the most butt ugly set of cans i've ever seen…..

This video explains it all for those who find the price of planar headphones astronomical, otherworldly, and ridiculous:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PveOboMyw4

My bro's got a pair of Audeze and they reproduce the sound in a heavenly fashion, period.

    • +2

This. Love the vid. So true.

Wish I had more than one upvote to give you.

    • -1

I'm sure they are great….. what i'm saying is they are fugly.

I'm also not sold that they are $800-1200 better than a set of top range Bose's etc. I could be wrong, I'm willing to bet that i'm not though and it's more of a placebo effect for the person who just sold a kidney to get a pair.

As I said though, I could be wrong.

      • +4

Yes they are substantially superior. Bose is known for its QC range, i.e. active noise cancellation; not for sound quality. However, they have brilliant marketing, and so uninformed folk automatically assume better SQ.

These are god-tier headphones, like the Audeze. This also means that the rest of your setup is pretty phenomenal as well. :) No one is running this sort of gear listening to 128k mp3s on an iphone.

Lastly, these headphones cost as much as a top-tier gaming rig or a decent electronic guitar…. If you're a music enthusiast with quality equipment and media (or a professional who works with audio), 5K is fine. Also, it's important to note that gear like this retains it's value, so you can upgrade/swap with other folk when you want to try something new.

        ===========
If you get the chance, try out some of these high end headphones at an AV store; with the right source, they will blow you away.

        • @xdreamyst:

Agreed. 5K is a bit rich for my blood (plus the wife will absolutely flip). However, I reckon I can get away with spending 3K on a pair (cashing all the brownie points).

    • 14.22. You have my permission to be a crazy person. lmao.

  • I hope broden doesn't sees this deal…or he might buys them all and resell at 100% profits lol

  • -1

    Bought 5.

  • Wait wait wait…
    HOLD UP.
Could someone PLEASE explain to me why you would spend $7000 on a pair of HEADPHONES?
Do people even notice the difference with $350 compared to $7000 headphones?
Well I guess if it is some sort of DJ who listens to music all day every day then fine, but for the general public??!!

    • +6

These aren't intended for the general public.

It's intended for music enthusiasts with high-end equipment and professionals who work with audio editing. There are a number of headphones from top-tier audio companies at this price point addressing the needs and requirements of this bracket.

Admittedly, it is incredibly expensive if you think of it as a standalone headphone… when you're looking at a audio-rig in the 10-30k price point, a 5K headphone (which is the "user interface") of this system isn't that much of a stretch. :)

Do people even notice the difference with $350 compared to $7000 headphones?

Properly driven and with lossless source, the answer would be a resounding yes.

Would I buy something like this? Unlikely. The most I'd spend would be for a pair of Audeze LCD-Xs (~AUD3k) provided I have invested in a good DAC and a high-end amp.

      • +4

        @the chump who negged me…

Do you have any counter arguments or are you just salty because you cannot fathom that there are people who like to spend money on their hobby (or professional) gear?

        • +1

          Have a plus-vote.

        • That is a very childish response.
Just because a pair of headphones that costs $7000 sounds different than a pair for $350 headphones does not make them better, in fact the few measurements for these headphones I can find just show the same kind of wild and wrong frequency response that cheaper headphones also have.

Audio pros like to use far better (and most of the time cheaper) monitor speakers and more reasonably price headphones (sometimes with frequency response compensation software), not just the most expensive thing they can get their hands on.

        • @Namesareapain:

That is a very childish response.

That is a very combative and hostile response. Was very unnecessary.

Just because a pair of headphones that costs $7000 sounds different than a pair for $350 headphones does not make them better

Absolutely concur with your statement. However, precision devices always tend to cost a fair bit more. You got the cause-effect relationship wrong.

in fact the few measurements for these headphones I can find just show the same kind of wild and wrong frequency response that cheaper headphones also have.

Please back this up with a comparison of the FR graphs; else, it's just your opinion which holds no weight.

Audio pros like to use far better (and most of the time cheaper) monitor speakers and more reasonably price headphones (sometimes with frequency response compensation software), not just the most expensive thing they can get their hands on.

Sorry. Disagree with you here. Depends on the budget/operating scale of your operation. If you're some SOHO AV guy, sure you'll be using a very price sensitive and budget conscious setup. If you're working for larger outfit with a (substantially) higher budget, you'll be looking at high-end gear.

I see you simply take umbrage to the price. All your arguments revolve around these being "TOO EXPENSIVE". The flagship products are typically for people, whether they're pros or simply hardcore music enthusiasts with deep pockets, who are looking for the absolute best that money can buy. Obviously there is a certain markup associated with being the top shelf offering.

I don't see the problem with that. You may not see the utility of this, but there definitely are folks who would benefit from this deal.

        • @gearhead:
Nice persecution complex you have there!
You called me a "chump" and asked if I was "salty".

This graph http://cdn.head-fi.org/4/45/45237605_HE1000.png of the HE1000V1 (which is not meant to be hugely different to the V2) clearly shows a wildly peaking and dipping midrange and treble, which is common in much cheaper headphones as well and thus not worth this huge price.

Audio engineers mostly use good gear for companies that are not infected with the pseudoscience and fraud that the "audiophile" industry is full of, not just random things with high price tags!

I believe the v2 changed the response in the mids (obviously take this with a grain of salt, as I've only read reviews of this, haven't tried it out yet). They're supposedly far superior to that of the v1. I've read a lot of positive things about these phones:

I'm sure that's true. However, that is not to say they wouldn't buy high end gear where warranted (even with headphones). The reason why I say this is also from anecdotal evidence (and I get the impressions yours is too), a very close acquaintance works for a fairly well funded (fairly small) outfit on the east-coast of US. Those chaps are typically issued with HD800/HD1000, however a few of the veterans are running electrostatics (from stax) and other fairly high end gear. Note that we do have a substantial Australia tax over here (the HE1000v2 is approx 3k USD; it never was 7k).

On a side note, you mentioned good gear

Just to remind everyone the deal posted includes the stand/ amp which sells separately for around 1.7k (on eBay in the US)

The headphones by themselves are currently $3999 at A2A

Anyway, i invite you all to go try out a pair, you really do have to listen to them and feel them to understand. Cheers

    • Don't be silly. This is the best headphone deal ever posted. Where else have you seen a pair of headphones with a saving of $2249?

      • None cause the average headphones isn't 7k

  • Thanks OP, next year's Christmas sorted.

I think OP has missed decimals either between first and second or second and third digits in the price

  • Thanks, blew my last pair.

You see the same old tired jokes and exasperated comments made on Slickdeals too when it comes to luxury items sold at bargain (relative) prices. I think people momentarily forget there are always going to be richer people who can afford better things when it comes to posts like these.

Rich or poor everybody loves a bargain.

This is selling on ebay by reputable seller for over $1k less (e.g. here). Can someone explain the upvotes, am i missing something?

    • +4

Apart from the joke likes etc ~
Comparing that eBay link and and the deal at A2A -

The deal at A2A includes this headphone amp/ stand, which that same reputable eBay seller (as linked) sells for almost AU $1700
So the approx AU $3,616.47 of the headphones + approx AU $1,672.34 for the stand & amp = $5288.81 total.
Also that ebay one is in the US and has additional shipping charges, probably import fees too, A2A ships from Melbourne and has free shipping.

  • Never had planar or open back headphones before, but interested to jump into planar world… not necessarily this one.
I presume this need to be enjoyed in quiet room with decent amp, rather than on the road.
Looking at this Oppo PM-1 right now

    Looking at the specs:
    * Frequency response: 8Hz-65KHz
    * Impedance: 35 Ohms

What a shame… I would really like to have bought these, if only they had more, ummm, impedance - say, 36+ Ohms :(

Ah well, looks like I'll be sticking to my trusty ole Jet Star ones for now.
