AKG K702 Headphones 113.27GBP (~$193.39 AUD) Including Delivery at Amazon UK

60

Good price for what are meant to be very good headphones. I have the similar K712 and am very impressed. For the price difference, these are probably a better deal.

  • $193.39 AUD is an amazing price for these headphones, is it free delivery? If confirmed, that's great. Just for reference, this is currently at half price on Amazon US for $222 USD (which means it'll cost over $300 with exchange + delivery costs).

Also for reference a couple of years ago they stopped making these headphones in Austria and moved to making them in China. Make of that what you will, but that's when their prices slashed by almost half and we started seeing these specials (probably due to labour costs). 99% of reviews & reviewers I have come across say they still sound the same and feel the same.

PS: Stick with the Amazon UK price if it truly equates to $193 AUD.

I wouldn't pay $300+ for the Amazon US special for these, if you're hitting close to $300, I would go with the Philips Fidelio X2 over these.

    • It includes delivery, title clarified.

When you do that, you've made your bed. Did the quality drop off after this?

Didn't the X2 get redesigned and have QC issues with the new design?

      • The K702 are significantly lighter on the bass than the K712 but you can do the bass mod and get about the same quality. At this price, I'd probably get the K702 and mod them. They're still $100 cheaper than where I usually purchase from.

Having used the Chinese and Austrian K701s, I can say that the differences are only very slight. The Chinese ones were more comfortable and it looks like they changed a few things to improve on the older designs. Overall I would say they were basically the same unless you go to OCD levels of detail… in which case they were just different, not better or worse.

Just keep in mind that these are reference headphones so they won't have the same sounds as your consumer headphones by Sennheiser, Sony, Pioneer etc. If you like listening to a lot of bass heavy music, these might not be the headphones you want but if you like have a very well balanced pair of headphones then these are very nice. Particularly at this price point.

  • How comfortable are they for long sessions? Are they light or heavy?

    • Got a pair myself. Large and deep comfy earcups for big ears. Fairly light with flexible suspended headband and low clamping pressure but stays on the head pretty well. Probably the most comfy pair of over ears I have. Also doesn't warm my ears up as much as others I have.

  • Bit disappointed with my AKG Reference headphones TBH (Q701) aurally, which I found out are the same internals as the K702.
