I seem to recall Kogan Giftcards are 10% off or something at Colesworths (one of the two … might make this an even sweeter deal!)

Ouch shipping to Perth is $61.58

    • Yea that sort of kills the deal for us…

28th December coles having 10% off on kogan gc

    • Can you use multiple gift cards on a purchase like this? 100 gift card x 3 + credit card?

I have this monitor, bought it at the start of last year when it was this price - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/181745. It's great and basically what I was expecting. The stand is a little flimsy imo which causes the panel to shake a bit. I was able to swap it out for the heavier stand from a 27" Dell monitor seeing as all the ones at work got taken off to be mounted on those adjustable arm things. The thing is the desk I have it on is not completely sturdy so if your desk is heavy enough so that it's completely stable when you type or someone walks near it then the stock stand should be no problem. The biggest drawback is the thing has a bit of a faint high pitch whine depending on the brightness and how much white it's trying to display. I think more people than not won't notice or be bothered by this but there was a little while after I noticed where I had trouble un-noticing it. However to be fair, I didn't notice it until a few months after owning it and my guess is that it was always there I just hadn't noticed it right away.

I could be wrong on this next point so take it with a grain of salt but I feel like the movement/motion in certain types of video could be smoother, like it needs a 24fps mode or smooth motion option or something. It's very subtle and generally doesn't get in the way. I watch all sorts of different media types from different sources on it constantly and it's not something that comes up most of the time. I cannot rule out that it isn't my onboard graphics or some sort of configuration error with the K-Lite Codec Pack. I can tell you it isn't a result of frames being dropped though, the frame rate is otherwise flawless even on 1080p x265 videos or 1440p video.

    • Are you still using MPC or Windows Media Player with the K-Lite Codec Pack? I don't think anyone uses that these days…I would recommend MPC-HC (https://mpc-hc.org/) as it comes with all the codecs (uses the LAV video/audio/demux internally I think). Just install it and you're ready to go.

Personally I use MPV (https://mpv.io/), however it doesn't have a proper GUI so it's not as easy to use without looking up the keyboard commands.

      • Yeah I use K-Lite, and it comes with MPC-HC

If you're comfortable with command line stuff I guess maybe it is second nature but it sounds like a bit of work just for video playback. I guess it's powerful and highly configurable in the right hands? Is MPV superior to MPC-HC? How come you use it?

        • Good question. I guess I don't have a real answer - it's main selling point is it's cross platform, however I don't even use linux or MacOS so that doesn't really apply. I guess what attracts me is that it's "new" while mpc-hc is based on the original mpc which is quite old now.

I don't mean you need to do command line stuff - it's just that the media player doesn't have many on-screen buttons or a right click menu, so you'll have to press "s" to adjust subtitles etc. But you can still skip through the video, pause, play, all graphically (it shows a scrobble bar if you move the mouse over the playback window).

TLDR - no good reason, just preference.

    Good deal. Cheapest 1440p 27" I've seen.
