Issue with Sony Order

Hi everyone,

Just wanna let everyone know about Sony and be careful when decide to buy anything from them.
I bought a backpack "directly from their website https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/278534 and made payment on 28 Nov 2016.
An email with enclosed invoice was sent out to me on 14 dec 2016 confirm the payment and inform that "Thank you for shopping at the Sony Store. Please find attached your purchase receipt . Your Sony order has been dispatched and is on its way to you!"

I ring them today (20 dec 2016) and find out that the order is not ready and supposed to be out between Xmas and New Year.
Really shock as it is totally different from what I is expected. I demand them please use common sense to explain the meaning of the above mentioned sentences in plain and simple English because this is from their email. They seem not want to answer my demand. To be more careful, I ask them to confirm which New Year they mean and which Year they mean (because SONY operates worldwide long time)

  • For New Year: Australian New Year? Chinese New Year? Thai New Year? Muslim New Year?
  • For the Year: 2017? 2020? 2030?

They even tell me "Oh, this is just an automatic email".

I get confused now. Can we trust the information the seller email us? Can we write down anything in an automatic email and send it out to our customer without taking any responsibility?

Please correct me if I'm wrong and donate your ideas what I should do now.
Anyway, I want to raise my concerns and let you know so no one will be trapped / misled by SONY anymore.

Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of false advertising since my suit against the film 'The Neverending Story'

Is your belief that SONY is operating a global scam by making sales then deliberately not shipping items for some time in the hope of what?
Or would a more accurate title be, "Disappointed with SONY shipping delay and error in despatch email"?

I don't use the word "hero" very often, but OP is the greatest hero in Australian history.

  • Sony is a Japanese company so they were talking about the Japanese new year of course.

Can I have an invoice for that donation for my tax?

  • +2

you could just wait or ask for a refund

this is not a scam. Big businesses always use automated emails as a confirmation.

    • Sony have great customer service, stop being an entitled pratt op.

  • Not unusual.
Try Dell. If you pay via paypal, your order will never be processed. (And they don't even tell you.)

  • So what is the scam??

  • +2

I am disappointed given you wrote the word SCAM all in capitals. I was expecting a much more interesting story. Just ask for a refund if you aren't happy. No need to get too worked up.

  • How clear do you need it to be. It will be around Xmas/ new year just like they said. It's in clear English.

    A scam, cmon you're joking aren't you.

    • +1

      Can confirm. English is clear.

Jesus, it's not a (profanity) scam. STOP with the caps and inflammatory crap.

    • +4

Their previous two posts are similar.

      • +2

        Yup.

        Caps and all.

You have a 5 post history

3 of which are complaints about companies.

Hahaha this gave me a chuckle at work. Cheers!

ps: Try waiting nearly 2 months for Geekbuying to send out their orders.

Ah do have to love these 'scam' posts lately

    Thanks OP for the laugh

Oh BTW, they were referring to End of Financial Year

  • This is too well crafted to not be trolling.

    ITT: I didn't get my way… IT'S A SCAM.

Thanks for your ideas. Not capitalize "Scam" any more.

Anyway, it takes them 16 days (from 28 Nov 2016 to 14 Dec 2016) to inform me the order's circumstances. I reckon that gives them enough time to know what they did before emailing to customers.

I sometimes have shipment delay when buying online. In that case, the seller just confirm the payment and let us know if the items are available or not, when they are expected, esp if they are from trusted brand name.

Now we try to buy something from a trustful brand name (or at least this is what we thought). 16 days after making payment, we receive their email confirming that the payment is successfully received, items has been dispatched and on the on way to us, there has even a link in the email help us track down the parcel which is freighted by DHL. 6 days later, we find out that the seller didn't do what they inform us and has no plan to do as what they tell you when they tell you. Is it a scam business?

For "Is your belief that SONY is operating a global scam by making sales then deliberately not shipping items for some time in the hope of what?" from mskeggs. If you run a billion dollar business worldwide, 16 days difference between when the payment made and when the invoice issued, can turns out a big financial benefit.

If you don't like not being in control of the purchasing experience, maybe stop buying things online?

  • hahahahahha. merry xmas!

OP I've read your post and I'm still feeling trapped by SONY. How can I be free of them? Oh well, back to my PlayStation and Walkman.

    • Walkman? I like that…
Showing our age, aren't we? :D

      • +1

Well, that's what happens when you're trapped by Sony.

  • It's Christmas and expect it's all crazy orders everywhere….

Big & small companies stuffed up orders and unluckily you are one of the one who got affected.

    No big deal mate….

Everyone who opened this post was scammed by the op. Minutes of life we'll never get back. Global scam too since there are over seas readers

    • Meh, we'd have only wasted those minutes anyhow :D

granted i got here after the post had been toned down from its original scam heavy text but

people seem to be missing the bit where they sent an email saying the "order has been dispatched and is on its way to you!" when in reality it hadn't even been prepared yet, this isnt just a case of a waiting period after the initial purchase ,that is normal especially at xmas time, OP should absolutely get a refund and report them to the ACCC or whoever (just incase it's a wide spread issue).

this kind of thing happens a bunch on ebay especially from chinese ebayers, they'll basically mark the item as sent as soon as they get the order but wont actually post it for a few days, doesnt so much matter when your going to be waiting a month for the surprise cheap item you ordered and forgot about to turn up but from sony i would expect the item to actually be in the mail when they said

    • It's misleading, but it's not a scam (unless they refuse to send the item). Scam is a strong negative word, if not used correctly, it could get op and possibility the forum into trouble.

  • In my experience this happens far more with brands that run their own online shops. It's very frustrating, and I can understand why you would be so shocked given it's direct from the brand. I don't buy directly from tech companies anymore.
