  • Will this work as a plex server?

    • It would be okay as a plex player, It would not be very good at transcoding.

      • +1

To expand on leftspeaker2000's reply - cpubenchmark.net gives the Z8300 a PassMark of 1199. Plex.tv guidelines give the following for transcoding:

        • 1080p/10Mbps: 2000 PassMark
        • 720p/4Mbps: 1500 PassMark

So, you'd probably be fine using this as a server if you didn't need live transcoding.

  • Only 2.4ghz WiFi kinda kills this for me

    • It's the measly 2Gb RAM that kills all these devices for me!
Windows just can't run smoothly on less than 4Gb RAM.

I have a pc just like this (same specs, different brand) and it works fine. These things are generally aimed to be used as media players or very light pc use, and they do that just fine. I use mine for kodi playing HEVC and it's great.

        • I had one… it was awful to use, pretty much no matter what I was doing.

It worked, but it was a terrible experience. I stand by the statement that 4Gb is the minimum for smoothness, even then only for light use.

  • Can you install linux on this?

    • My thoughts exactly.

    • Yes but it doesn't work well with Cherry trail so I can't recommend it.

  • Will this fit in my Honda?

  • Looks to be a decent price for the specs…from what I can see, the main differences to the Intel Compute Stick is the Compute Stick has an extra USB port and AC wifi.
