This seems to be a revival of this offer. Quoting the page:

Get our $50 Prepaid Mobile Broadband SIM Starter Pack for half price online before 10/01/17 and with 8GB bonus data when you activate before 05/02/17. Data for use in Oz. T&C apply.

Beware that Vodafone had/may still have addressing problems with their shipping, causing problems with delivery. See previous Vodafone online shop deals for reports.

I think you can also get this in 7/11 shops with this deal.

  • Does not seem to mention anything about unmetered spotify on the page, anyone know if this prepaid has this?

    • Vodafone doesn't have unmetered Spotify

      • Didn't they use to have an entertainment package or something?

        • They did. I think it got removed though :o

  • Is this stackable (ie. $50 for 360 days)?

    • Vodafone packs have no expiry so you could activate the second 180 days later, but you won't get the bonus for the second one.

  • So it's 16gb if activate before 050217

    • Or is the bonus data dropped on that date?

    • +2

That's what the page says, you get the bonus if you activate before then. But I hate this kind of wording. Does it mean you have to activate before 00:00:00 on that date or before 23:59:59 on that date? Better do it on the 4th latest to be safe.

        Always assume the worst.

I activated one yesterday, and on the My Usage page under My Plan it has the inclusions.
Mine states Recharge Data 8GB, Free Text 30, Bonus Data 8GB.
It's counting down only the Bonus Data at the moment.
So I guess it is 16GB of usable data included.

  • What you OZBs think of this set up:

Dual sim phone, 1 private number and 1 business number mostly just for receiving calls.

Port the Business number to this deal and use it in the 4G slot for data and business incoming call.
Port the private number to Vaya Unlimited S plan which currently can be have for $10, use this in the 3G slot for everyday personal call usage.

Oh….why I don't use the Vaya card for DATA? Cos Optus 4G Data is really crap….I tried.

    • +1

Just make sure your phone does at least 3G on both slots.

      • I am looking at the Huawei P9 L19 or L29 model. Should be ok…..I think!!

    • This is a data plan, can you still receive phone calls on this sim?

      • Good point, that might be a different plan, you may not get a working number on a data plan.

  • Do just to clarify - for $25, you get 8gb(plan inclusion)+8gb(bonus) if you activate before the 5th of feb?

    • +1

Got this last month. Its 8GB data with. 6 months expiry. Maybe this time is a different offer, but i doubt it. Would have to get better clarification from vodafone.

BTW: The recharges also have 8GB bonus, so maybe there was confusion over this.

    • That's how I read it too.

  • Presumably the bonus 8G also expiring in 180 days? Can one use VOIP on mobile data to make calls?

    • I don't see why not.

      • I use mynetfone for my landline VOIP. Any recommended setup or providers for VOIP over mobile data?

        • Not from me, sorry. Someone else may know.

  • Hope you don't need to call them… I just needed to for my mobile broadband account. The experience of a simply looking to double check my plan expiry almost made me cancel with them then and there. I'm not being racist when I tell you that for the life of me I could not understand every second word from the foreign callcentre staff member. And I have a foreign background/relos, so I'm used to thick accents! But holy crap this was bad.

Just sayin. Don't call them. For anything. Use the online contact and get them to call you. At least that way you aren't wasting 30min of your time waiting on the phone.

I asked for a supervisor in the end… and their Americanised Indian accent wasn't much better, as it also had a touch of condescending/you're beneath me tone. Actually, come to think of it now that I recall the experience entirely- I AM going to leave.

    • What?? You dont enjoy the Bollywood Indian music that is played on hold??

I activated my vodafone sim (finally) from the last deal in September. To my pleasant surprise, there is 8GB (normal) + 8GB (bonus) + 30 free TXT. I chose the prepaid MBB plan and used it in my dual sim phone (Moto E2). Very happy with 16 GBs over 6 months for $25!

    • This answers my question, thanks!

  • Can someone please explain to me how a data sim works? Can I put it in my spare iPhone use that as a hotspot for my regular iPhone? Thanks

    • +2

Yes, you can put it in a phone and use it to tether other devices.

  • can you receive calls on this sim if using in a regular mobile phone?

  • i have received the simcard today, and i have activated it, but when i checked the usage, i only have 8GB data.
How can i get the 8gb bonus?

    • oh, actually they have updated the usage, now i have 16gb data.
      thanks

  • Just ordered 2x packs - it's bloody stupid that it's a better deal to order a new sim each time rather than to recharge. Using this deal, I've spent $50 and received 32GB for use within 180 days… yet if I was to pay $50 for a recharge, I'd receive only 8GB (ooh, but if I paid with my credit card, I'd receive an extra 800MB). Wasteful pain in the ass having to switch and swap each time :/

  • Just FYI, this did work from 7-Eleven.
I managed to buy the $50 startpack for $25.
After the initial 'activation' process, my account only said 8GB,
but it estimated that my phone number would be 'activated' in 15 minutes, and after that time it said +8GB total.

    Thanks Op!
