Oppo F1 - $149 Locked to Optus @ Kmart

600

Was visiting Tassie a week ago and saw they had Oppo F1 locked to Optus for $149 in Kmart at Devonport. Also phoned a store in Melbourne and they had the same deal. Rang some stores in Canberra but no stock. Seemed to be normal price at that time, and seemed good value for a fairly high spec phone (was still $199 on Optus site). Current model is F1s, so maybe clearing out. Sorry a bit late posting, hopefully still available.

      zte nubia z7 max $130
      thl t7 $140
      ramos mos1 max $145

      • are these phones local Australian stock?

Just a warning, I've had one since February and it's an okay phone but the battery life has died and it has ram management issues.

    • +1

Have you tried a factory reset?

I have no issues with ram management or battery life and I've had mine since April

    • I've had mine for about a year, no problems what so ever. Best phone for under $200 easily.

    • +5

Used one for about 6 months before going back to my SGS3 i9305.

Awesome specs for the price, but still a barebone phone in many other aspecs; Hated the Low mA and missed the NFC I was getting used to with the SGS3.

Nil home brew builds at XDA also played a big part in the deal breaking.

  • My wife has had this phone (I think) for 1.5 yrs (bought it overseas) its a great phone and made me get an oppo too!

    • +1

It was only released early this year

          Must be different phone.

          @Wallyt99:

Sounds like your wife had an Oppo phone similar ( specs and price ) to this that you were equally impressed by. So your point still stands, you like Oppo phones in this range :-)

  • +1

What is the camera/photo quality like?

  • +1

Just bought an oppo phone and I'm quite impressed with it. Chinese phone manufacturers have come a long way in terms of quality over the past few years.
The specs on this model are pretty good at this price point, but personally I'd spend a bit more to get one with vooc fast charging.

  • +1

Anyone know if we can get this unlock? Thanks.

  • +1

Looks like an 'Allocation' (AL) of stock, so would be limited stock across all stores

    • Would you happen to know what Vic stores have it?

  • +2

Yeah, seems like clearance. Target-online only lists Oppo F1s, and at $259 https://www.target.com.au/p/optus-oppo-f1s-4g-prepaid-mobile…

Weirdly, the Oppo F1 seems to have much better specs (e.g. 33% more powerful GPU), only advantage of F1s is a 5.5" screen. I must be missing something…

    • +1

Sorry, my mistake. OP was at kmart, not target. Kmart online doesn't seem to have any oppo at all.

  • If this is the locked Optus F1
it is locked to some Bands which Telstra use
    even if you unlock it
ALSO this phone will never be updated from Android 5.1

    • +2

Never is such a final word to use, especially when you don't do your research first :D

      http://community.oppo.com/en/forum.php?mod=oppo_viewthread&t…

Best value phone I've ever owned - can highly recommend. The project spectrum marshmallow update takes care of notification, memory management and myriad other issues.

      • Posted from my F1 running Android 6
      • +1

You are running a BETA version called Spectrum
which NOW OPPO HAS OFFICIALLY CANCELLED
please read OFFICIAL release from OPPO
Do your research properly and you will see
that OPPO reps have officially said it also on whirlpool
        OPPO f1 forum

        • +2

You said it will never be updated from 5.1! That is plainly untrue and misleading. There are unlikely to be further updates, but that's not what you wrote.

Why does it matter for 99% of users if spectrum is a beta when it runs stably? The phone is still running marshmallow.

If any user is expecting continuing OS updates into perpetuity on a run out $150 phone then buyer beware…

        • -1

          @mad__llama:
It is NOT untrue as it has not and will not be updated OTA
BETA is NOT an update especially if stopped half way
and still has bugs as any beta software that is why it is beta
read the forum you posted fully it has bricked a few phones as well
when installed so I would not recommend people installing Beta software
I have used beta for years on PC ad WP and currently do and know the
downfalls and willing to put up with phones freezing not responding
it is a chance and risk you take with beta
The phone itself hardware wise is great value at $149
if you stay with Optus network (i have 2 for my kids)
bought when OPPO was telling us it will be updated

      • NEVER was from OPPO rep read his reply below

I wanted to give you a quick update on Project Spectrum, as I know some of you have enquired as to whether it will continue to be rolled out across future devices. At this point, OPPO has made the decision to put Project Spectrum on hold.

        • also beware to ANYONE using Project Spectrum, the native camera app puts a washed out beautify effect in all rear facing photos and it CANNOT be taken out.

Im not sure about 3rd party camera apps.

        • @irev1:

          im using porject spectrum

          regret installing it

scared to downgrade as people have bricked there device and even oppo encourge you to take back to place of purchase but i dont have receipt :(

        • @chingy213:

I downgraded 2x oppo F1 devices to Color OS 2.1 back to standard rom both worked without problem did it with my unlocked one and the other one was a locked to optus version

the TRICK to downgrading is DO NOT wipe the cache just install color os over the top of Project spectrum and it will overwrite it/remove it without bricking.

if you do brick oppo have stated that they will honor warranty and fix it for free.

        • @irev1:

          thnx bruv ill do that

  • So you have to flash the ROM yourself if you wish to get new Android OS?

    • Bootlocker is locked so no roms available AFAIK
you can get the BETA spectrum but that is no longer suported

  • is it available for that price only TAS or is it also available in Casula NSW, Parramatta?

    • +1

I can confirm this deal is also available in SA. The store I have visited did not have any left in stock however, they have placed an order for me at $149.

      • +1

        Which store is it?

        • +1

Kurralta Park, and also I was told it would be very likely the same in Marion store. They should be able to order in from their warehouse and ring you when it arrives.

        • @david531: Marion is far from mine, maybe I will go to nearest one and ask. Thank you

    • Only the F1s is available in the Launceston store.

  • +1

Nobody in MEL seems to have any stock.

  • greenborough as stock but they scanned it at 199

    • The OPPO F1 optus locked was $199 retail price

  • No stock in parramatta Westfield.

  • -2

Screen resolution is extremely poor hence was improved in F1s

    • +2

      This comment is wrong. ^^^

Both F1 and F1s have 1280x720 resolution. the F1 however has a higher PPI because it sports this resolution on a smaller 5" display as the F1s uses a 5.5" screen.

  • One left at Joondalup WA, ticket $199 but scans at $149.

    • I went there yesterday to get it and it scanned at $199 :(

    • That one is gone despite staff telling me they held it for me. Same thing happened at Warwick.

  • -1

A little off topic, but in case your interested in another great value phone, the LG K10 for $219 unlocked with all Aussy band support and also Oppo F1s unlocked for $318 both at JB HiFi on sale now till 24th Dec.

    • Everywhere I've seen the F1s it's $249 (Big W, Target)

      • Four different phone models.

        1/ Oppo F1 unlocked
2/ Oppo F1 Optus prepaid locked ( The model posted here )
        3/ Oppo F1S unlocked
4/ Oppo F1S Optus prepaid locked

  • Would it work with Optus MNVO's (such as Vaya) whilst locked, by any chance?

    • +1

Going from peoples feedback and so far own experiences, yes.

  • +2

Just be aware that this model does not have band 28 unlocked. So even if you pay to unlock (I paid ~$25 from bagman), you will not have band 28 (e.g. Telstra). It was the same with the OPPO F1. I got rid of my Optus one for this reason.

These work fine on Optus (and Optus third-party supplied network). Also, you cannot get rid of the Optus start-up (boot) screen, but you can easily remove the pre-installed OPTUS app.

Handset is good for the price, I recently picked up three 'unlocked' versions for ~$285 (not the Optus model) for my sister for her kids Christmas present.
