  • Whats the price without the addons (which you pay for anyway??)

    • Hi,
The price for the machine is $2399 without the add ons. If you choose to go for this bundle we will remove $4 off the machine, and add the 4 add ons at $1 each as our systems do not allow us to process items without charging.
      Cheers!

    $2400 for a 8GB RAM, i7-6500U, 256GB SSD and 1080p non-touch display is pretty absurd.

I actually own a second gen X1 Carbon, and as much as people go on about the build quality, the lightness and thinness, it's just not worth the price you pay for it.

For a better laptop in almost every single way:

$2548.30 at time of posting comment.

But do they provide you with these additional add ons at no charge?

No, but you don't waste your money on a laptop that isn't very good value.

Starting weight is 1.78kg vs 1.18kg. The XPS 15 is 50% heavier than the X1, which is quite a significant penalty and a different ballgame. You're better off comparing the XPS 13.

Touchscreens is pretty subjective. I think they just chew up battery.

The rest of the specs eats the X1 alive though (more RAM, bigger SSD, discrete graphics, bigger higher res screen, better processor). It's the classic quandary of lightness vs function.

Personally unless you want the dock and screen you're better off getting a higher speced X1 on Boxing day for similar money.

      • The thing is, at that weight, people just need to suck it up. 600 grams is so little, so unless you have an injury where you cannot carry around 2kg on your back, just get the better laptop.

        • I used to think that until I got the X1 carbon. 50% is significantly a lot of weight, also learnt that from my camera gear :)

It's the difference between a bag that is acceptable in weight to super light. It really does make travelling a lot more pleasant.

        • 600gram is little. Yeah nah.

        • @zhenjie:

The difference is like carrying a 600ml bottle of Mt Franklin in your bag. Meh.

        • @smileymiwo:

A laptop is not shaped like a water bottle. Its a wide surface area with more leverage. 600gram is a lot for people who are constantly picking up an ultrabook one-handed. The XPS 15 has its place, the XPS/X1 Carbons/ultrabook have another. It's not you to judge what people should buy for their needs.

  • Maybe for the second Gen version, however this is the Gen 4.

  • Who needs the extra crap. It will be good idea to reduce price by 50% like p50s. 8 gb and non touch screen sucks

  • So expensive
