Do the disk based games generally allow most of the data to be accessed from the disk or do they still need to be entirely installed to the drive?
Data is generally installed. Uses the disc for authentication.
Both PS4 and Xbox cannot play games off a disc. There are too many assets to stream off of a slow disc drive. All hard drive. Disc is only for verification.
That's a bit of a bummer, although disk still handy to avoid massive downloads but then I guess some of the game updates are pretty huge to download?
Massive. Can be small but most of mine have been between 2-7 GB when first installing from disk.
Depends on the game. Some are 50MB, some like Final Fantasy XV today are 10.5GB on day 1 (according to interview with the director, they couldn't fit the whole game on the 50GB Blu-Ray).

Completely different beasts, your PC has no UHD drive, but is a hell of a lot more versatile and upgradeable.
my PC has a LG BE14NU40 and it works perfectly fine with 4k blu ray discs, stop talking crap

I wasn't aware at first but I thought the site was a Microsoft Australia site. Bank charged me an international transaction fee of over 3% on my credit card. I called the bank and was able to get it reversed. Just a heads up.
What did you say to bank ?
Just that it was an honest mistake and that I thought it was a Microsoft website that was based locally. They just said they'll reverse it this time but in future they said to be aware of the additional fees on these type of sites.
I reckon I'm gonna wait until Boxing Day. Might be better deals on Xbox
