Forza Horizon 3 has just released its expansion pass on Windows Store for us to buy (the first expansion will apparently come out on 13th of December 2016):

https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2016/11/28/prepa…

the expansion pass will allow players to get both the expansion mentioned in the above article and another expansion in the future. It's priced at US $34.99. However, in Australia it's priced at AU $52.45 (we're getting screwed again by Windows store, what's new?). I found out (so far) that cheapest price that I could find was in Mexico windows store, the game is priced at $619 mexican dollar, which translates to around AU $40. Thing is, I don't know how to purchase it as both my paypal and visa was rejected because the store could detect the region mismatch between my account and the purchase.

Does anyone know how to circumvent this region check thing? If anyone finds out about a method to bypass it, it'd be much appreciated to post the method here and I'll update this post :)

Cheers mate, you all have a good day.

  • i bought doom off the mexican xbox store a few days ago (was approx $20 aud) - and the best way to do it is to just buy gift cards from the mexican windows store and pay with australian paypal (i couldnt get paypal to work trying to buy the game directly but no issues with the gift cards). redeeming them on the website was causing some confusion though so i changed my region on the xbox and redeemed them on there then bought what i needed. Hope this helps anyone wanting to grab the forza dlc!

    • Hi mate, thanks for the reply. Would you be so kind as to elaborate? Once you buy the gift card from mexican store for example, you have to redeem it in mexican store isn't it? And what if you still have some leftover credit after purchase? Can you transfer it to the Australian windows store?

      Cheers mate,

      • You will need to buy the gift card values to get as close as you can to the value of the DLC - if not any left over you have will be in credit for the Mexican Xbox store only. As the mexican store always tends to be one of the stores with the lower prices i dont see this as an issue as i just use it for the next game. Even if you have a few bucks left over itll still probably be cheaper then buying it on the local store.

        • Ahhhh I see how it is. Hmmmm, damnit, there's no way to buy it directly from the mexican store without gift card isn't it? Btw, I got the direct link to the expansion pass in mexican microsoft store, here it is:

          https://www.microsoft.com/es-MX/store/p/Forza-Horizon-3:-Pas…

I'll update my post with the new link now

Cheers mate, really appreciate the help

        • Hmmm in that case, I don't think this deal would work. Check this out, these are all xbox/windows store gift cards that the mexican store offer:

          http://imgur.com/a/txbfS

As you can see, they offer 4 different gift cards:
          - 200 Mexican dollar
          - 300 Mexican dollar
          - 600 Mexican dollar
          - 1000 Mexican Dollar

          Linkto the gift cards here:
          https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msmx/es_MX/list/Tarjeta…

Forza Horizon 3 Expansion Pass is 619 Mexican Dollar. Which means that you have to buy a git card that has more value than 619 Mexican Dollar correct? That means you have to buy the 1000 Mexican dollar gift card. Once you buy the expansion pass you'll still have (1000 - 619 = 381) Mexican Dollar unused with the gift card.

With all the regional pricing and all, you can't guarantee that you'll use that 381 Mexican dollar leftover ever again and thus it'll be a waste. Therefore this method is not practical.

urrrgh damn man, thought it's a good deal but there's just no way to buy it directly from the store without these gift cards isn't it?

        • @blue2609: Can't you just buy 2 x 200 and 1 x 300 ?

        • @spiritek:

          EDIT: I'm a dummy, 2 x 200 + 1 x 300 is 700 -_-, which equates to AU $45 ish.

I don't know if it'll work though, can you do it that way? I have no idea and I don't want to take the risk of trying haha

        • @blue2609: Gift cards absolutely work, used them multiple times for various regions (not Mexico yet though, but US Singapore and one or two others). Sure you won't save a heap now but I guess you have credit for next time.

Think you jumped the gun a bit though posting a deal you weren't sure how or if you could complete a purchase for.

        • @Smigit:

You're right mate, I'm really sorry about that, I'll try not to ever do this again. Ummm, but do you know if that method works? Buying 2 x 200 mexican dollar gift cards + 1 x 300 gift card to pay for the game?

          Cheers mate

        • @blue2609:

          Yes, it'll work

        • @blue2609: Can't see why not. Just make sure it's a digital gift card so they don't post it out (I've been silly enough to do that once). As above, I haven't purchased from the Mexico store specifically, but when you redeem the digital gift cards they go against a monetary total which is pooled on a per region basis….so your account would show $700 in this case after redeeming the three cards. After the purchase you'll have $80 or $90 or whatever the total is remaining and if you want to make a purchase in the future from the store you'd simply top it up with another gift card (or two or three).

A lot of those regions are consistently cheap, so having a few dollars left over isn't the end of the world as I'm sure you'll find other items down the line worth buying from there. I think I have some very small balances in the US, Singapore and Hong Kong currently for this reason.

        • @matthewk85:

right right, so I should change the title to $AU 45 instead of $AU 40 and tell them the method to buy gift cards and all, gotcha. Ahhh I also have to check the link to redeem those gift cards

    • Why didn't you just buy doom from target, it was $18

  • Found this website which may help find the cheapest price:

    http://xbox-store-checker.com/en/game/compare/Forza-Horizon-…

Looks like Argentina has the cheapest price.

I wonder if you can buy gift cards on the other countries websites like you can with mexico?

    • +2

This is one quite a few of us have been using: http://www.xbox-now.com/home
you can change the currency to Au, and have it list only countries that have gift card purchases as an option (seeing as the VPN method is basically dead).
Like the site you linked, it also has a page listing different places to purchase gift cards.

  • I maybe off subject here but i have had issues with previous pre orders with microsoft store au where i was given credit and also gained credit for pre orders.
As we all know they are very over priced with there games.

One example skyrim $45 at target and i with a $20 credit down to $59 with microsoft store so no brainer got one from target.

I have a $30 credit which yes will bring another title im looking at to $59 next cheapest i can find as of now which not out yet is $65.

I have a few $10 credits which i find out cant be stacked which is annoying as will not make much difference to any of there over priced games.

I do prefer phyical games but if a deal on something is really good then i might not mind digital.

I could wait till xmas sales come along or boxing day sale and at looking at last year it should not be long before they do some sales deals again so i get more for my credit.

But im reading on here about buying gift cards can i do this with microsoft au store? If so what can i do with them or how can i use them? Can i stilk buy phyical games later or just digital? Or even dlc etc?

I have horizon 3 ultimate so i believe i get this for less so is this expansion now available now in au? If so how can i grab it cheaper with credit i may have.

They are 9 digit codes not the 25 digit codes you get normally.

Just trying to find out my options wait for a sale to come along so there prices are normal or get some titles but not be much of a deal compared to what others will sell for when released.

And then $10 credits are not going to make much of a difference to there overpriced stuff.

If i remember right i have $30 x1, $20 x2 and i think $10 x2 all of which expire in 90 days. Will need to check when i got some of these already.
