  • Lol take off the branding (which lets face it, you don't actually make it yourselves anyway) and you shave off over $100:

All our boards are designed and made in our own factory :)

Unfortunately you will always have someone in China rip off your products with cheaper and inferior parts.

They must've been quick to the market, since your website was created in September of this year…

Or, and here's a thought, you're no different to the countless re-sellers of 'hoverboards' and are just tacking on your own labels.

@Spackbace: We have been around since 2009 and our boards are sold all around the world. We had a redesign of our website in September this year.

          @rog7:

Skateboards since October 2010. Or do you forget what businesses you've run? Lol wow

And this mini skateboard was released in April

@Spackbace: The whole point about everything is that Fiik does not resell other people's boards. The brothers who started Fiik Skateboards, design and manufacture all their own boards. They are a hard working Australian company who took a dream and turned it into a business.

Here's a link to their story:
          https://fiikelectricskateboards.com/the-vault/the-fiik-story

        • @rog7: It just so happens that the Chinese company copied everything? Colour scheme, size, parts. Even the controller looks identical to the ebay one posted above.

Either Fiik got a company selling electric boards to put Fiik logo and artwork on their product (90% possibility) or some random company in China decided to copy a Fiik board down to the same colouring and parts components (8% possibility). The only other thing I can think of is the factory that makes Fiik boards in China (and please try and tell me they are 100% Australian made) stole the design and started selling the boards directly from under Fiik (2% possibility).

I have found these under a quick 2 min Google search that also come up as "E-Wheelin", "Koowheel" and "Cool Step" but to name a few.

While i have no doubts that the brothers started out making and designing their own boards, to say these boards are Fiik made and in their own factory is just not true. (unless that factory is in China and they also supply these boards to other sellers in a blank format at a much lower price point. But as a supporter of Australian products, I am happy to be proved wrong…)

I’m with Spac on this one. It's a very very expensive markup for a Fiik sticker kit…

        • @pegaxs: have you seen how many penny skateboard fakes there are out there?

    • +1

i get your scepticism but i skateboard and i've heard of these guys for years. boardshop.com.au sold them until last year. no doubt they stopped because these things are hell expensive, but they have to be when they use quality batteries.

i've actually seen one of fiik's electric boards myself; guy at uni had the longboard version. they aren't cheapo rebranded chinese boards. (feel free prove that they are)

  • Wait a minute…. it doesn't even hover!

    I want my hoverboard already!

Illegal in Queensland unless on private property, just a heads up :)

    • Same with SA, just checked.

    • +1

thought it was legal ONLY in qld?

    • +1

These boards are legal in Qld and we have not had any problems with anyone riding our boards.

Yours would fall under 'Personal Mobility Device' yeah, considering the power output and speed capabilities:

        Rules for personal mobility devices

To use a personal mobility device in Queensland, it must:

be designed for use by a single person only
        be self-balancing while in use
be powered by an electric motor
have 2-wheels that operate on a single axis
have a control to limit speed to 12km/h or less
have a maximum speed of 20km/h
have a maximum width of 850mm
have a maximum weight of 60kg—when not carrying a person or load.

Last I checked, yours fails the 2-wheel section of that segment.

So it's too powerful to fall under "Motorised foot scooters":

A motorised foot scooter is a scooter which has an electric motor attached of 200 watts output or less. The official mark on the motor will verify the wattage. The motorised foot scooter must not be capable of travelling faster than 10km/h on level ground.

and doesn't fit the criteria of the mobility device

Same as hoverboards don't, because they're not self balancing, and have too high a power output to be just a bike/scooter.

Just going off the criteria listed in your link…

  • If you guys want to ignore my training, going on 8 years feel free… just don't come crying when you get a TIN

  • How big is the motor on this thing?
