  • Good find, Thanks SB

  • 90 cents more on their ebay site. Not sure if it's worth using my $50 ebay voucher on this. I've already got the first chromecast. Is it worth getting this one?

What's the difference between chrome one and two?

Edit: better streaming and less buffering

    • apologies for my ignorance but what is this voucher that people are talking about..? $50 ebay voucher, $30 HN voucher .. i didnt see these deals in the past .. :(

I got one for $8 (after stacking 2 $25 TGGs store credits), and have picked it up today from my local store. And thanks, Spackbace, for the help with the codes last night. :)

    • My store credits expired. Forgot to use them! Oh well…

My first one was due to expire on the 25th, so I received the second just yesterday, and that has reminded me I had another one that was to expire. Tried to stack both of them, and lucky enough, they worked. Couldn't be happier.

If you have an Officeworks near you, they are selling it for $47 at the moment

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/google-chro…

    • on that note, if you have an officeworks near you, they won't price beat against dick smith.

source: Went into my local officeworks, they said no, didn't really give a reason as to why.

  • Im after the audio one but gutted my memory order got canceled fwq weeks back like $60 for two.
Don't understand why tgg dont sell the audio chromecast

    • Grab it. My MyMemory order arrived and the CC Audio is a Godsend. Just be sure to run optical if you're sending the signal to a receiver.

And switch it to HQ audio.

        • Full Dynamic Range setting is only usable via 3.5mm cable.

I had awful playback with FDM enabled via 3.5mm lead.

When Chromecast Audio is connected through an optical interface, it will always use Full Dynamic Range. Setting Full Dynamic Range to OFF won't have an effect as it will remain ON.

  • I realise the price for this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/277438
    is more than double.

but would you guys rate the chrome cast over the xiaomi?

from someone who has never used any sort of tv box/cast

  • I have a chromecast 2 but am disappointed as you can only stream certain content via the app on iPad, I didnt try my Android phone as yet.

  • Can someone give me a dumb downed explanation of how this works. We have a two tv's, one smart tv outside and one normal tv inside which is connected to foxtel. With chromecast can I stream say foxtel go off my laptop to my smart tv that is outside while my mum is watching whatever she wants on foxtel on the inside tv?

This answers most of your questions:

Basic summary - steams internet content to the tv, your phone is an initiator and remote control.

On your example of foxtel, no you can't use chromecast with foxtel (well, based on my attempts with foxtel go). Casting from a PC requires the use of Chrome browser, foxtel on the PC uses their own application. The mobile app recognises when casting your screen and turns off the stream : ( Foxtel have gone out of their way to constrain content to specific devices.

90c more on their ebay store if you received this voucher, you can save extra $20 +1.25% cashback

Well, not many stores sell the Chromecast Audio. Not Bing Lee, Not officeworks, not GoodGuys. So +1 from me.

Meanwhile in the UK where everything is a lot more expensive (partly due to 20% VAT), these are currently on sale for £18. What a time to be alive!

    • No pesky UK plug to contend with either

I don't think this Dick Smith variant comes with a separate power supply and usb power cable like most are sold with. They certainly don't mention it in "what's in the box". So it will have to be powered from a usb port.

Only mentioning this in case your tv doesn't have a suitable usb outlet to power it off.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I read it.

  • Hey can anyone confirm whether you get a HK (ie UK-style) power adapter? Description only says "international model" which isn't very illuminating. Cheers.
