Do they really hold you to activating within 30 days of purchase? Haven't had that restriction on previous sims bought from Scoopon/supermarket.

    • I think some providers have started doing this activation timeout thing to counter hoarding.

      • +1

I think they are bluffing, and say it to stop hoarding.

        • Let us know how it goes. Generally I find Optus kiasu and other things being equal will prefer another provider, even a MVNO.

          @greenpossum:

Just bought one. Should be here on Thursday so I'll see if it is suitable for hoarding. :)

        • @greenpossum:
          You must be Singaporean.

        • @bazinga8888: I know Singlish.

Got mine today. Expiry: Sept 1 2018.

          Hoard away!

    • Rep online said it becomes a brick after that period. Havent tested myself

      • I got one a few weeks pack - standard $30 yellow Optus pack with 2018 expiry printed on it. Rep is on crack

    • Huawei modem in Coles catalogue says the same but in the fine print

If activated later than 30 days from purchase date, advertised inclusions may vary.

    • I think they do.

Just tried activating a new optus sim i purchased back in Oct when Woolies were selling them for $10 and it couldn't be done even after contacting optus support. Luckily was able to get a replacement from Woolies and noticed the replacement had a sticker saying it has to be activated within 30 days of purchase.

      • OK I am on gold right now to Optus to try to clear this up. Earlier I called an Optus shop but they were less than useless.
The website DOES say must be activated within 30 days, but the physical pack says 2018.
        Hmmmm

        • Yeah the original sim i had that i was initially trying to activate only had the expiry date on the back, March 2017 or something. However the replacement i got from woolies had a sticker on the front of the pack noting the 30 day activation and still had the standard expiry date on the back.

pretty poor effort on optus if they're applying the 30 day activation on older sims that had no warning about it.

Let us know how you go!

          @Gravix:
Yes they have done a spectacular job of not telling anyone and generally confusing their customers with this.
          Still on hold….

          Edit.
Wow, first they gave me a gibberish answer about general expiry dates completely off track and then when I patiently explained, the bitch hung up.
Ah offshore customer service, what a joy

        • @King Tightarse:

          classic optus.

  • it could be the limitation on the pack expiry.

I'd say wait for tomorrow, Coles have the same thing according to a previous deal.

    • But u cant get extra 10%off if you buy3 or more in Coles pluse 1.25% cashrewards

      • Limited to 1 per customer

      • Depends what you need it for, I personally don't need more than 1 so I'm happy losing out on the 10% and 1.25% CR.

Only really need it to check how the reception is for a few frequently visited area before deciding whether I want to join the $45/mth 12GB plan

        • Good for those who bought phones yesterday and are now looking at buying cases and screen protectors.

  • Girlfriend is already on optus, could she buy this, activate and churn her number over to the new sim?

    • You need a different provider as a stepping stone for the port.

      • Ah damn, ok. Would've been an easy way to get some cheap credit. cheers!

  • How much data can I get with this SIM?

    • 3GB

      • +1

The catalogue states it is suitable for receiving the +3GB bonus, so that would make it 6GB for the 28 days.

        • Any good data deals on plans after the 28 days?

        • @petersx: After 28 days, port away with another carrier's $30 prepaid sim that you bought on special for i.e. $10 to get good data deal.

  • Does anyone know if you can buy these and you the credit on Google Play?

  • Could you use this for the $2 a day plan? It says a wide range of prepaid options but doesn't seem to list which ones anywhere? It'd work awesome as a temp phone number if that were the case (particularly with my dual sim phone)

    • +1

Answering my own question - it appears you can use the prepaid kit for doing the My Prepaid Daily Plus so if you bought $30 worth you'd get 3 kits - $30 credit is 15 days worth of phone usage so 45 days with a 6 months expiry for $30/less with discounts?

      hell yeah

      • +1

A bit late. But any Optus starter kit can be activated on any of their current prepaid plan.

  • bought many from here mine say expire 1st sept 2018

  • +1

Coles is offering the same deal. There were none at Coles Belconnen but Jamison had heaps. I only bought one as I'm new to porting and am treading wearily.

    • Just picked up 3 in Belmont loads of stock, thanks for the tip off, expiry Feb 2018

  • Can only buy 1 every 10 days from the ebay store ):

  • Hi can anybody advise that if i wanted to opt for 186 day expiry 30 dollars do i have to recharge again or will this included credit work?

  • Has anyone successfully activated the sim after 30 days of purchase?

    • First post was Nov 22, so it is not yet 30 days.
