So tempting to purchase but a gtx 960 is sufficient enough for me.

    • +1

Yes it is a good deal Similar story as yours my GTX 760 it is still working well for me

    • +1

not worth to upgrade from gtx 960 to 1060 or rx 480. the improvement not worth your dollars

      • +1

If your doing fine with the 960 then dont bother, but if u want more performance the 1060 is around 50% faster than the 960, it may be a good investment in those who are building or upgrading their pc

        • +2

but 3gb VRAM could be a problem in the future

        • @legelas:yes thats true but by the time 3gb vram becomes obsolete, u probably be upgrading to a better gpu

        • +2

@Bargain4Days: not in my case :) my GPU is 5 yrs old. I'm bouncing between 1060 6gb and 480 8gb at the moment. What's your opinion between that two? they are same price with ebay 20% off

        • +1

@legelas:They both perform about 10% difference in dx11 and dx12, honestly they are both great performing cards, if u want nvidea software such as shadow play or g sync, get the 1060, 480 for free sync and dx 12 and Vulcan.

I personally think getting the rx480 is the better choice because of its dx 12 and vulcan, monitors with freesync are normally alot cheaper than g sync

Your choice, which gpu gives u more benefits and ticks at the price u can afford

        • +1

@Bargain4Days: that's exactly what I think. it's so hard to choose because they are same price

the 1060 cards are great for anyone looking to run a low power usage, yet gaming capable system.

    I'm currently running their 6GB m-ITX GTX1060 in a Dell Optiplex 7040 midi-tower system (i7 6700, 32GB DDR4, 512GB Samsung 950 Pro, 500GB 850 Pro & 5TB WD) without any issues using the Dell supplied 315W 80+ Gold PSU.

Keep in-mind the 3Gb cards also have less Cuda cores compared to the 6GB variant.

    • 5-10% difference yet you pay 30% more.

      • Newer games can actually now make use of the additional memory, so for a few $ more worth it to me.

        • Can you tell 1 game that actually needs the 6GB from the 1060?

        • @misu p:

There are quite a few games that can benefit from more than 3. The whole idea is to have some form of flexibility. Price wasn't a consideration for me.

        • @xuqi:

I have played the "quite a few games", it is a good game, you are right.

That's a really good price. I was looking at the 1050Ti for my partner's Christmas present, but I may need to go for this instead.

    • go with this one for longer use in the future games

    • +2

GTX 1050 ti is a terrible card for the money. You are basically paying 30% less money for 75% less performance. Unless the power supply that you have cannot handle the 1060, this is the way to go.

      • Will the 3GB in this card be an issue? The 1050Ti has 4GB.

        • +2

with the performance you get, 3gb VRAM won't be a bad trade unless you want to play in 2k/4k. but even 1050ti won't play 2k/4k very well. so if you have enough budget get 1060 or rx 480. I was think about getting 1050ti but then i won't upgrade my GPU in the next 3-5 yrs so i will get the rx 480 8GB

        • +3

I have been looking a lot at this the last days. Well the argument is like this:

1050 ti should be used at 1080p on high-ish or 1440p on medium settings. For these resolutions almost no game will hit the 3BG limit (some games report they do but they do not hit the physical one, just the allocated one), yet alone 4GB of the TI. The only way to use that much memory is to install 4k mod packs on games. However you cannot game with the 1050ti at 4k so the 4k textures are kind of useless. You will have problems with games because of pure compute power before you hit problems because of the vram.

The 1060 does have a lot more compute power and again you can only hit the 3gb limit with 4k mod packs, again the 1060 is not built for 4k so again the mod packs are not all that useful, no current games by default will hit that ceiling. However the 1060 is a much, much better card (by 75%) than the 1050 ti.

The 1060 6gb costs 30% more than the 1060 3gb while providing between 5% and 10% more performance. However if you do hit that 3gb vram ceiling you will see around 50% difference between them.

What I will do is get the 1060 3gb version and put the 80$ difference towards something else. The games I play do not need 2GB yet alone more, so for me it will be more than enough. to pay 30% more to see 50% difference in very special conditions is a risk I am willing to take. I will just lower some settings and the performance will be back at 5%.

Now do not get me wrong… :) I will probably put the 80$ towards some RBG lighting for my case, so I save money in 1 place just to spend it in another one that you can consider more useless.

On a budget buy the 1060 3gb, for piece of mind buy the 1060 6gb, if your PSU is weak or it does not provide a 6 pin PCIe connector buy the 1050 ti.

A guy that articulates it very well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0fBehW2L0Y

        • @misu p: you're not 100% right. I think 1060 and rx 480 are entry level for 4k gaming. I agree that with 1080p gaming budget get the 1050ti, 4k gaming you better get 4GB VRAM so 1060 6GB or rx480 4GB. The reason why i want to get rx 480 8GB is the 4GB only ~$40 difference with eBay sale. I know I don't need to spend extra for what I will not need 8GB VRAM (playing in 4k) but I'm paranoid with "future proof"

        • @misu p: that's 100% right on what 1050 can offer :)

        • @legelas:

I do not believe 1060 can do 4k very well, it is a medium / high 1440p card. It depends on what FPS you expect, I try to get it at over 60fps to get a smooth game. Right now the 1060 3gb will be an overkill for me as I will play at 1900x1200 and mostly e-sports game that require the least amount of power.

        • @misu p: yes both 1060 and rx480 wouldn't be able to run 1440p at 60fps. In your case, 1060 3GB will be enough as you play e-sport most

Waiting for a sub 300 deal on the 6gb :\

    • +2

You might be waiting a while. I bought the Gigabyte G1 1060 6GB yesterday based on this comment The Windforce is a little cheaper, but you're still looking at $350ish.

Maybe some good deals in Black Friday sales?

  • Damn, been tempted to finally upgrade my GTX670 4GB and this looks a great deal! Wonder if I sneak it past the MoWF.

She probably won't let me dam 😞

    • HAHA! I'm literally having the same thoughts as you…

    • +2

Upgrade to something that will allow you to.

  • I just bought a monitor with Freesync, mainly for coding but with the potential for some games if I ever get time. I reckon I might wait to see what AMD has in store Q1 next year.
