Perfect for all the new PS4's being bought

    • Not really, since PS4 doesn't support putting games and shit on external storage devices. I have one of these drives and it runs fine on the PS4 for music and movies, but you can't copy any games over to it, you need to plug a 2.5" SATA drive into the unit directly.

Xbox and Nintendo let you though. So if you're grabbing one of those, pairing it with one of these guys is ideal.

Can be taken apart and replacing the original drive in the PS4.

        • -5

The original drive doesn't use a USB connection like this drive does, that's the reason why this can't be used on PS4.

        • +1

@TheDukeOfNukem: The PS4 uses SATA. The case can be removed and the HDD inside is identical. You plug that into the PS4, then you put the old HDD into this case and use it as your external drive.

          @TheDukeOfNukem:

Except that it can. I used this exact hard drive to upgrade my PS4 over a year ago. Has to be a special measurement to fit in the PS4 and this type of HD has those measurements. I wonder if this works on the PS4 pro too?

@snagseb: Well holy shit, I know what I'll be doing in the morning.

I may look like an absolute (profanity) in this thread, but at least I learned something super useful. I have a couple of these around (long story) and was actually gonna trade someone for their 1tb hard drive to shove in my PS4 the other day, looks like I won't need to, cheers guys!

          @TheDukeOfNukem:

lol, it's the internet, no biggy :P.

Nice, fairly easy to d. If you are going to do it, do a backup during the day while you're at work because even a 500GB HD took me like 5 hours I think to back-up and 4 to restore it to the new HD. You can back-up your current PS4 setup including games, data, everything within the PS4 settings onto an external USB hard drive. Then search something on YouTube like 'seagate backup plus slim ps4' and follow the steps, 10 minute job. to replace the HD.

Keep in mind the new hard drive won't even have firmware so you need to download it from here

          https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates/ps4…

Make sure to scroll down to 'Perform a New Installation of the System Software' and download that file to flash your new HD and not just the PS4 update file which won't work. Follow instructions on how to flash the firmware and once all setup, do a restore from your backup of your old PS4 HD using the PS4 settings menu! Enjoy, hit me up if you have any questions.

    • Hi guys, here's a link to the original digital foundry article about using a Seagate drive to replace your PS4 original: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-how-to…

Just a major heads up though. They recommend the Seagate Expansion, not the backup slim plus. I can vouch as I've done mine using the expansion.

The only reason I mention is that it comes down to how easily you can get the external case apart without damaging the hdd itself. Has anyone had experience with upgrading via the slim plus?

PS this will work for Pro too, as it's the same size HDD bay.

      • Looking to upgrade my drive and gravitating towards the Expansion one too. How easy was it for you to pull apart? Did you follow a video or anything?

        • +1

Yep, the Seagate expansion I used isn't available anymore. The new version is very difficult to pull apart (you will need a scalpel). I wouldn't really recommend getting their new expansion drive for this. (the new one has the "honeycomb" pattern on it).

    • If you're purely wanting it for the PS4, the Seagate one from Bing Lee is exactly the same drive as far as I'm aware.

      • The Plus Slim can be used as a Caddy for your old PS4 drive

        • I was under the impression that you could do that with the Seagate Expanion as well. Or am I mistaken?

        • You probably can, but I doubt it will be as easy to those who aren't too tech savvy

    Western Digital $99 here.

    • +2

Most people buy these because they are direct replacements for the PS4. The drives in the WD portable units are not.

      • Ah. Fair enough.

      • Also, Elements is the competitor to the standard Seagate portable expansion drive, not the BUP Slim. Passport series is the price equivalent of BUP Slim.

This is a lot slimmer than a 2TB Passport, and includes 200GB Onedrive storage.

      • $15 postage?
  • Quick question for the community - are there any 4tb drives yet that fit directly into the ps4 since the recent update. May be better bang for buck.

    • +2

The drive should be 9.5 mm thick or less. You are stuck with 2tb HDD (or 4tb SSD if you can afford it). Otherwise you can try a data bank.

  • Do Amazon delivery to Australia?

    • +1

It depends on the seller on Amazon. You should check the shipping information.

    • -5

No. You have to get a relative to post it to you.

      • They do but it depends on the seller.

At the checkout screen, Amazon will tell you if the seller ships to your address or not.

        • -1

Can't believe 2 people actually took my comment seriously. A question like "Do Amazon delivery to Australia?" on a bargains page for aussies doesn't deserve a more serious reply than the question itself.

        • +1

@lostn: LOL there are noobs in this forum, they will take your comment very seriously if you're not careful. XD

But now I understand your sarcasm . XD

    • Yes, it will let you know if the seller does or does not on the product page

  • Can you stack the 200GB cloud storage if you have multiple HDDs?

  • Does this require power or just mini usb?

    • The HDD only need the USB to power it.

  • How's the reliability on these HDDs vs other brands e.g. LaCie?

  • +2

I ended up buying the 4TB version. Lots cheaper than what it goes for in Aus!!

    EDIT: THANKS OP!

  • Does anyone know how long thse take to ship to perth? Leaving the country on the 9th

  • I prefer either 1TB x2 or 2TB x2 cos if you have 4TB on one drive filled up and it so happens to fail, you're screwed! lol
