  • I have been without a fridge for a while (kinda got used to it by now) and am thinking to buy one on sale (for one person), but I am not sure about this Haier brand. Does anyone own any of their products, and can comment on the quality and service of Haier?

Nope, but two year warranty plus consumer laws

one of the largest chinese domestic brands thats trying to break it overseas for the past few years

quality is about as good as other korean and japanese brands. but maybe not top spec which is why the price is usually much cheaper

you have warranty to protect you so dont worry about it

I have this fridge and it's excellent. Can't comment on service as I haven't had any issue with it 12 months in.

It should be noted that appliances online will price match with free delivery and they'll also take your old fridge away for free.

      • Thanks. I live in Adelaide, so AO isn't an option for me, unfortunately.

PS: Do you think this particular fridge is too big for one person household? I live by myself, and I am not sure if it's worthy buying a fridge of this size, since I don't even cook very often.

Haier own Fisher and Paykel. They're not going anywhere and I would think they have an interest in making reliable goods seeing as they're associated with an excellent name.

      https://www.fisherpaykel.com/au/company/about-fisher-paykel.…

      • They're associated with F&P? That's reassuring then. This might be too big for a single person, though the price, free delivery, and the four stars are tempting.

How are you going without a fridge? Tinned food and preserved meats?

      • Lol. I go through the supermarket almost every day, or every other day, on my way from work/uni for small stuff that go bad without refrigeration. Lazy is my middle name. :)

Haier actually own the largest white goods factory in the world. I would buy their fridges, but avoid their washers and dish washers.

    Haier goin'???

      Tried Rogaine?

They bought Fisher & Paykel a few years ago. Here's the manual:

    https://www.fisherpaykel.com/vault/pdfs/pdf_usecares/HBM450W…

It says it needs 50mm clearance all round. Does anyone know what realistic minimum clearance required is?

    • I just bought a fridge this week and did some research around this as we had an enclosudmre with limited space. Without good airflow around the fridge heat can't be dissipated and will cause it to be overworked. A couple of companies I spoke with said if the fridge has issues and there isn't enough clearance it will void the warranty

I have had this fridge for a couple of months now. No complaints here. A few points:

    Pros:
    - Looks good and easy to adjust with the digital display and controls on the front.
    - Setting an actual temp is much better than a fridge with manual analog dial.
    - Has a "my zone" area that can be set to a custom temperature separate to the fridge and freezer temp controls.
    - Seems quiet. Haven't really noticed any more noise than the F&P that it replaced.
    - Excellent LED lighting inside for great visibility.
    - solid and not wire rack drawers.

    Cons:
    - Shelves are not adjustable. Hasn't caused us major issues though the F&P shelves could be moved around which was nice.
    - the top and side finish is a grey plastic material and not stainless steel. The door and edges of the door is stainless steel though. In a kitchen enclosure it's not obvious. I'd say it keeps the costs down.

    • Thanks for the 411, dka. Do you think it's too big for one person, or the bigger the better? I am in the market for a decent fridge with a reasonable price, but I think this looks too big for just one individual.

    • We have the 520 L one. With one big upper bin and two medium sized freezer bins as opposed to the 3 'edium ones here. and the only complaint we have is thei inadequate shelving. There isn't many slots to choose a good compromise. Either there's too much space or not enough. Other than that it's been a great fridge. It's a bit audible when the compressor comes on but I'm told I'm the only one that actually hears it.

Don't know how it's gonna hold up but hopefully lasts 5 +

      Sorry wrong brand

Just piping in to say how much I LOVE my top-mounted fridge (no idea why it's erroneously called a "bottom-mount"? It's a bottom mount freezer, not fridge!). But, I digress….

We're a tall family & it's been so wonderful to NOT have to crawl on the floor to find things on the lowest rack as we did with a standard fridge before! It makes more sense to have the part you go to most often, on the top, more accessible.

Lastly, while I like the freezer drawers keep in mind that you do need the space to entirely swing the door open, completely, in order to pull them out.

    FYI

    :)

    • Great fridge, thanks for the headsup.

Gonna pull the trigger. My oldie NEC has been serving for 20 years. 580kwh vs 335kwh this haier. Saving 450 bucks a year already on Energy. Excellent.

  • Is the door reversable?
need Left Side opening Door… spec say yes, page says right side door.

    • Yes. Mine came with the hinge kit to change it over (though I didn't need to).

  • Is this a decent upgrade from a 380L fridge? It's not really big enough for us.. Also is there a larger fridge (upside down or not) for cheaper anywhere?

    • :)

      • +1

        That didn't help me…

    • +1

I went from 380 to 530 & it was so insane, the empty space- lol. 450, it may not be a huge size difference, but the fridge on top is fantastic.

Have you tried Master's? They may have some walking out cheap if they're not all gone. The sale is over at jbhifi, I think?

      Good Luck!

  • This is a great bottom mount fridge. We bough this a few months ago for about $900 delivered and we couldn't be happier with it. It's hard to find 450L bottom mount for that price. Most F&P of the same range are around 420L.

  • The price went up. It's $898 now, and I still didn't pull the trigger. FML! :(

    • Maybe get a smaller one. Keeping air cold is expensive if you won't fill it.

      • It's one reason I was holding back. Hope there will be smaller ones on sale soon. Ta

      • I meant, what had filled the old fridge completely, when shifted to the new one, left lots of gaps—- which we then filled with the stuff we never could before. When you have a small fridge, you end up going to the shops every other day (at least with two kids, you do!).

        :)

  • doh! gonna call appliance today and expired . great find OP. believ in next time
