MSI CX62 6QD-452XAU 15.6" Full-HD i7-6700HQ 8GB RAM 1TB HDD GTX 940MX 2GB Laptop - $978.40 (after Discount) @ PC Byte eBay

First time poster. This deal seems to hit a fair few requirements of the Ozbargain community:

  • i7 HQ, albeit not absolute current gen (Skylake)
  • Full HD (1920*1080) anti-glare screen
  • 8gb ram with 2 slots, up to 32gb
  • Dedicated graphics (GeForce 940MX, 2gb)
  • 1tb HDD, (change in SSD I guess)
  • USB 3.0 Type C Port

All this under $1k. Only problem is no operating system by the looks of the ad.

Not a real computer guy like most on the forum, but this fits most things people in the comments seem to reject as non-negotiable when looking at a bargain. Let me know if I'm on the right track ;)

  • 940 though…

  • Will have to pass, sorry. The Dell Inspiron 7559 from Scotty's deal is better as it packs a GPU that's two tiers better and with backlit KB. Though, only a 12 month warranty.

  • Only 8 available though…

  • Pity MSI, Asus, etc. use small zero keys in the numpad. The whole point of getting a laptop with a numpad is for fast numerical input, but then they spoil it with small zero keys. HP, Dell, and Lenovo consistently use big zero keys, but Lenovo is starting to use small zeros in some of their laptops.

  • Bought this few months ago during other 20% off, same as now. IT'S WORTH WHAT I SPENT, THOUGH 940 IS NOT FOR GAMER . Cheapest laptop with i7-6700HQ quad core on market, good build. The Dell from Scotty's deal comes with 7th gen dual core processor, better than 6th gen one but still far below i7-6700HQ.
Also tried Lenovo i7-i7-6500u dual core + 16G RAM and decided never go for dual core or power saving processor again.

    • I've been thinking about getting this notebook, but I'm not sure about the quality of the screen (brightness, viewing angles etc) or if the keyboard has backlighting. Could you perhaps tell me, and what you think of it after another month of usage.

      • The IPS screen is great with colours, brightness ( I installed apps from MSI and they really help : MSI True Color, SCM, Sizing options, etc..), wide viewing angle. But anti glare function seems not effective. Basically I can't watch movie on the train if sunlight hits the screen. It DOES NOT has backlighted keyboard, but it comes with chiclet keys bringing great typing experience. I like my DAS mech keyboard but still, this built in keyboard is great for that price. Performance is great even before my SSD and RAM upgrading. Just one thing if you want to upgrade, please be gentle with the screen hinge, this plastic part is really tricky. I almost broke mine when upgrading the first time. Lastly you might want to wait for 20% off from PCBYTE which happened several times last year or purchase from somewhere else I believe it's bout $1050 so save some money for RAM and SSD.

        • +1

Thank you so much for replying (so quickly too) and for all the extra info and advice. The anti glare won't be needed so I don't need to worry there. I will definitely be careful with the hinge. The person who will be receiving it is heavy handed so your tip will be very… handy.

Again, thanks for all your help; it's very much appreciated and very helpful :)
