Awesome specs for the price, but why so heavy?!

    • +3

Lenovo's "Balancing Function". Same principle as putting lead in the keel of a yacht.

      • +2

        Does it float?

        • +2

No, because it doesn't have a winged keel configuration.

  • +3

Looks like this is an Intel with 2xCore 4xThreads, It would be nice if it was a proper quadcore.

    • Would be more expensive and more power thirsty. This is the Ultra-Low-Voltage (ULV) version with the U designation at the end of it..

      • i.e. U is worse in every way for a 14".

  • +1

Anyone know if this intel gpu can handle civ6 at 1920x1800?

    • +16

Sounds like you have a very long monitor.

      • +2

Heh…. thats what i get for replying on iPhone ;) 1920x1080!

      • Or a very square one

I forget if high is 1920x1080 or just maxed specs. either way you are looking at sub 20fps on high settings

      • Thanks… sounds like not then. Wonder how good the AMD GPU is then verses the intel onchip. Hmmmm

        • mid next near zen apus will be released :), your other option is having an eGPU enclosure… but that requires thunderbolt usb type-c 3.1

        • The R7 according to user benchmarks on notebookcheck is about 20% faster on average on most things. The biggest advantage is that being a discrete card, the CPU and the main buses has less work to do to push data around. The R7 also has its own 2GB VRAM, whilst the Onboard Graphics will need to "Share" this with the main RAM meaning you get less usable RAM when the graphics are used.

    • +3

R7 graphic card is meh. It's comparable Nvidia counterpart is Geforce 920M. According to here, it can play Civ:Beyond Earth at 1080p at 20fps in med. But considering Civ6 upgraded the graphic engine comparing to the one Civ:BE used which is the one on Civ5, I'll give it an estimation of 10fps. In other words, borderline unplayable.

      • Thanks mate.

    • It works at 15/16 fps @ 1920x1080 on intel 520.
About 30fps @ 1920x1080 on Geforce 920m (i couldn't manage to get full screen on yoga 460 wqhd screen).
About 20fps @ 2560x1440 on Geforce 920m. Runs extremely hot and game gets slower per turn gradually.

      • I thought Yoga 460 has Geforce 940m.

        • You are right. sorry it does have 940M not 920M

  • Jeezus - these deals literally are jaw dropping.

    • +7

If they were "literally", there would be people walking around with no jaws.

  • I want to buy a new laptop. How is lenovo in general? I am from an HP (COMPAQ) era.

    • Great laptops at these prices imo. Only problem is the useless bloatware on the machine, which isn't a problem once you remove it.

      • Easy enough to remove for a regular person?

    • +1

Cheap but bad reliability. So if you want it to last for a few years, dont get lenovo. But if you get an upgrade every couple of years, its worth considering.

      • My e330 I bought in early 2013 is still going strong, no hinge problems or charger issues, I've had to replace the mechanical hard drive after a failure and I replaced the battery recently (still working just only 1/4 capacity). I expect to get a few more years out of it.

    • +1

I've had good experiences with Thinkpads. They are robust and easy to take good care of, aided by published hardware maintenance manuals.

  • +1

Are any of the new i7 CPU's in laptops quad core? Great deal, only thing that makes me hesitant.

    • Yes look for 6770hq. Way more powerful. My 3rd gen quad core cpu is more powerful than 6500

      • Thanks, will keep an eye out for it!

  • +1

Except Radeon R7 M360 is only good as GT920M. Even Far Cry 4 is barely playable on this machine.

    • It's not intended or marketed at all for that capability. Not sure why you would expect that.

      • +2

It is calling the GPU 'high-end graphics'…

Choose between integrated Intel HD Graphics or discrete, high-end AMD graphics for a boost when video and photo editing

That is pretty misleading, At best it is a low-mid range GPU.
Plus I'm not sure you'd receive a huge boost, even to video editing with it over the intel.

        • Fair call, didn't notice that total Lenovo lie.

        • Well, to be fair, it does say the "high-end" graphics are "for video & photo editing", not gaming?

Maybe it's high-end for those duties?

Have a daughter going into uni for arts design & looking for Xmas/grad pressie…

  • -6

omg worthless, it doesn't even have a 4k screen

    • +2

      He is kidding

      • Yea the pos vote gave it away
But then again maybe he hadn't pos'd it yet

  • +3

Can TA please get us a deal on the Yoga 910? I really want one but the Australian price is ridiculously more than the exact same model in the USA.

  • Just grabbed a latitude 14 with i5 6300HQ, 16GB ram, 256gb m.2 ssd, FHD and win7/10 Pro for 1129 delivered from DFO if anyone needs quad core!

    • +1

sounds like a good deal, link?

      • +3

Here. Currently 3rd option from the bottom ("DFO-3899866LT").

    • not brand new and the cpu use heap more power

      • +1

Well, it is brand new and so what? These dual cores are pathetic this day and age.

    • +1

Just bought this. They had 4 units: you and I makes it 2 units left.

Guess I'll wait to see what lenovo has to offer.

      Whats a good price for T460p: i7 6700hq 8gb 1tb gf940mx wqhd screen. Is 2.1K a good price?

      • +1

I'm waiting 3 days to see if Lenovo has decent deals for the T460p or T460s - if not I'll probably grab a Dell.

      • +1

The T460p is in the current weekly specials. $2288 with those specs.

    • any idea if it supports more RAM? if i want to wack another 16GB stick in

      • It has 2 slots and according to this page http://www.dell.com/au/partner/p/latitude-e5470-laptop/pd it can take 32gb (2x 16).

Anyone can comment on how the 5000 and 7000 series latitude compares with thinkpad range?

        • I quite like the latitude range, I've been supporting them for years, if anything usually fails it's a HDD.

        • @XeKToReX: Do you think there is much difference between 5000 and 7000 latitudes?

  • Is this consider to be a good entry level gaming laptop?

    • +1

Nope. Don't game on this, it'll suck.

    • ThinkPad doesn't do gaming. IdeaPad does.

  • This is very cheap but the Radeon is complete garbage. It's a very puss GPU and don't expect to play any decent games on it.

It's not a true quad core CPU either.

Very good price for a general portable laptop with fast SSD, good ram and decent processor for every day tasks.

  • +1

I got overheating / fan issues on Thinkpad. Both E460 and E560. Twice each machine. So if you don't know how to check fan or monitor your machine heat, don't buy it.

  • Seems like a good deal.
