  • Not sure what outdates quicker mobile phone models or dslr models ….. My d5500 has hardly been used have a d3300 in box for Christmas and now they have d3400 :-(

    • +1

Lower-end DSLR tend to be refreshed faster while higher-end especially Full-frames tend to update only once 3 to 4 years. My Canon 6D still doesn't get a mark II…

    • Haha, willing to sell your D3300? PM ME

    • +2

DSLR bodies really dont require you the upgrade every generation. Lens are where you should be putting your money towards and they update even less frequently then anything else.

People generally get too caught up in the latest micro advancements, rather than using their actual gear.

      • +1

Exactly. There are reasons to upgrade, but you want those reasons to be worth the cost of upgrade. If you're not earning money with your gear then you probably only need to upgrade your body every 3-5 years - which means one or two generations of professional gear, or about 5 generations of entry level.

    • Eh, they gotta make sales. I still use an 11 year old 5D (pretty much classified antique).

      • My two wedding photographers used 5Dc's as they were only one generation behind at the time) and I'm happy with my wedding photos, and some are printed in very large format (~75cm long edge).

    • actually this camera update is a special one as the predecessor (D700) was released back in 2008… so it has been a long time coming… as others have stated consumer models have more regular updates to appeal to the masses whereas enthusisast/professional cameras have typically a 2-4 year turn around…

Been this price ever since launch..

    • which price at launch… ~$2K or $2.7K?

  • +2

Was way cheaper 12 months ago - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/228061

It seems the price has gone up since then though with the shit aussie dollar and nikon's Australia tax.

    • yes that was a great price but unfortunately missed out on that deal at the time…

      • What a weird neg to get.

    • Camerasky are extremely shady and should be avoided.

Saving $150 for no warranty and the potential of getting a returned unit… Hell no. Might as well just throw your $2k away.

      • I'd rather deal with a grey market retailer like DWI or Eglobal. At least they're honest about what they're selling - and you get your stuff in reasonable time.

      • Lol chill. Have you not heard of paypal and ebay guarantees? Most aussie retailers are just as difficult when you need them to make good on their warranties. Even when you mention ACL.

    • for about the same price as grey import why would you not choose local? plus you can't use it for TRS…

  • Sad to see the prices keep going up. I got my D750 at the teds ebay sale back in march for $1920 with no nikon cashback.

    • sad but not too sad as it's a great camera… and also means you won't lose too much value if you decide to sell it :)

  • +1

Still so expensive! Was the camera I wanted but settled for the d610 after I got it new for $950 (taking into account vouchers and cashbacks etc). Would recommend the d610 if you can get it fairly cheap cause it's only outclassed in generally minor ways vs the d750, for most photography needs anyway. The d700 is still awesome too, if anyone's after a cheap full frame alternative (as long as you don't mind less mega pixels and worse dynamic range, and buying second hand).
    Thanks anyhow OP.

    • +1

the D610 is also another great option in the FF DSLR market but with most things photography you will develop G.A.S over time :) i am actually quite surprised the D750 hasn't gone down in price this past year but i guess there are many factors at play here (australian market supply and demand, exchange rates and after the recall)…

      • Yeah it is surprising it hasn't dropped. I suffer badly from G.A.S also 😉

  • Does anyone know how the cashback works with ebay purchases? I've never tried with ebay

    • +1

they will email you a standard invoice like they would their online store (separately from eBay)… just select ONLINE for the retail location when claiming..

  • +1

p.s. purchase two and you too can become a professional photographer like this guy!

  • Even with the aussie dollar exchange, this camera is probably one of the rare ones that has not dropped in price for such a long time

  • Does anyone know about the TRS eligibility with eBay purchases from Teds (although its an Aussie retailer, still its an online purchase). Are we getting an invoice with the words "Tax Invoice"? (Not the eBay order confirmation)
Because thats a primary requirement for TRS.

    • +1

yes a proper tax invoice (akin to their online sales) is sent to you after payment/delivery of goods… which isn't necessarily unique to Ted's… most major retailers on eBay do this as well… a tax invoice/receipt is also a requirement for cashback… the difference with the TRS is that any goods purchased over $1K requires identity information (name, address etc) which the tax invoice should have… you also don't need to print it out
