36

AcerPower SK50 Desktop Computer
3.2GHz Intel, Card Reader, 80GB HD, DVD-ROM
$99.99 with Linux or $149.99 with XP Home

Upgrade to 1GB RAM for $24.95 extra
Logitech Keyboard/Mouse bundle for $19.95 extra

I've often been asked, "Should I buy a new PC?"

Well, if you really need the latest'n'greatest vToday.1 graphics card and the absolute-fastest Quad-guts processor with an Umpty-nine terababble drive - AND you want to pay for it - then go right ahead! You have my blessing; RUN, quick like a bunny, to the nearest shiny-computer store and plunk down your $two grand… they'll be your best friends!

But if you just need to do some websurfing/Emails, a bit of after-hours document work, or watch an occasional movie, then anything you'd get off the shelf over the past couple of years is simply overkill.

It's the dirty little secret of the whole industry - almost nobody needs the speed of the newest computers. Even when it comes to games, the high-end ones which demand all sorts of grunt mostly just use it to display extra-realistic blood spatters… who needs that?

So the smarter option is to get a refurbished PC from Zazz. Today we have some lovely AcerPower SK50 systems with a 3.2GHz Celeron, half a gig of RAM and 80 more gigs of hard drive (hey, that's better than what I'M using!), tested and installed with your choice of Windows XP Home or Ubuntu.

Today you can also get an optional upgrade to 1GB RAM for $24.95, or a Logitech Keyboard/Mouse bundle for $19.95, just by leaving a note in the "Comments" box during checkout.

Some may have a minor scratch, scuff or leftover sticker on the outside, but the innards will last for years to come. They make a great PC for the kids, the guest room, or just to have around in case something goes "plop" in your main system…

I've also been asked, "why can't I go swimming within half an hour after I eat lunch?" - but for that answer, we'll have to wait until next time…

Better grab yours now, they won't be here tomorrow!

Nice one for the oldies/kids

  • Note: The CPU is a Celeron D.

  • "the innards will last for years to come." Does that mean you'll warranty them for a similar amount of time? Otherwise they shouldn't be making that claim

    • Noo damn my lack of desktop knowledge. My first negged deal T_T

    $170 with XP (including shipping)?

The first google hit for "refurbished PCs" is this place:

    http://www.recompute.com.au/c/computers_used/193.html

The first hit is $179 pick-up, has a significantly better CPU (P4 > Celeron), has 1GB of RAM, has the ability to burn CDs and has a full years warranty (zazz has 3 months).

This is the FIRST hit on google, and the FIRST box on that webpage, without doing any shopping around whatsoever.

This deal's price is standard, not special.

    • The third hit on google:

      http://www.greenpc.com.au/product/pentium-iv-24-pc-only

      • Pentium IV 2.4 Ghz (approximately the same as a Celeron 3.2GHz)
      • 512 MB DDR RAM
      • 40 GB Harddrive
      • On Board Video Card
      • On Board Sound Card
      • CD ROM Drive
      • Floppy Drive
      • USB Port
      • Windows XP installed and configured, Winzip and Acrobat Reader.
      • Microsoft Office 2003
      • 12 Month back to base warranty

      For… $65.

If you want it without XP and Office 2003? $15.

      • So the product without XP/Office installed is $15?

Or to remove these it costs $15

        Please clarify.

  • I would stay away unless your fine with replacing broken parts.

I've had a lot of experience with refurbished PC's, especially Acer refurbished.

I've found the majority of them develop faults early on. Such as the dvd drive failing or the power button/power supply failing.

The Zazz warranty is 3 months, just like other refurbished warranty. And the reason is a lot of them fail within 6 months.

You could buy it and be lucky, but I wouldn't take a chance personally.

  • I have had these running at work for years, they are pretty reliable. Only had a few PSU blow ($79).
But look around, if your on a budget…this might be for you.

But keeping budget in mind, we all know someone who has spare PC they will give away and chuck on a dodgy OS for you :) Not that I`m encouraging that sort of thing!

It's not a terrible deal, but not spectacular. The SK50's with P4's were pretty good, not sure about the Celeron. Fine for web browsing/office apps etc but no good for games.

This model sometimes had trouble with the internal speaker.
Just whip the lid off and unplug/replug the power/data connection to the speaker.

    • This is my experience too.

Average deal, not bad enough for a neg but not good enough for a +

  • I found that this site zazz 's deal offer nothing cheap. Some of their junk offer was overpriced which you can get cheaper elsewhere or ebay. I have deleted them from my Bookmark, doesn't worth your time checking their deal.

  • average at very best… not a deal worthy of a "+"

  • this is not a good deal…too much for a low power , old pc without a monitor

  • Hardly a bargain.
Had bought few items from Zazz.
Shipping time is mediocre at best. Their item quality has never been great for me (at least not enough to warrant them as "good value", just "fair price").

  • The word REFURBISHED doesn't exactly jump out at you. You have to read their 'waffle' of a story to notice it. I've been a long time supported of sites like Zazz and dailydeals etc and there often not the best price or quality that you would expect from sites like this.

  • zazz use to be great, the best of the daily sites, I was a huge advocate … these days, they've seemed to slip a little …

  • Biggest load of BS i have read yet "Quad-guts processor with an Umpty-nine " come one are you selling this to 5 year olds that havent gone to school

  • Not a bargain. Refurbished + 3 months means junk which will soon be in the garage sale!
