[iOS] Acidik - Wearable Audio Visualizer. Free Download + (Disable Ads IAP, was US$1.99 Now FREE)

80

Giving everyone a free pass for my iOS app this weekend, both the app and in-app purchase to disable ads are temporarily free (usually US$0.99 - $1.99). If you haven't already tried out "Acidik - Wearable Audio Visualizer" in the dark then give it a try tonight.

Acidik is designed to be worn/balanced across your eyes whilst laying in a very dark room (at night ideally). You can use it with your eyes closed or open for two very different visual effects. Headphones and iPhone 5 or better recommended however it will also work with iPhone 4. The larger screen phones provide a more immersive experience and the better black levels of the newer phones help as well. No VR headset required.

It works with your locally stored song files (not cloud or streaming audio sorry). However, it also features a live microphone mode so it can react to a Pandora/Spotify stream if you are sending the stream to an external speaker via a secondary device (bit of a confusing workaround but let me know if it doesnt make sense.).

The live mic mode is so sensitive that it can even react to your breathing and is useful for meditation. It's a bit like watching fireflies that react as you breathe in and out. Here's a video example of how that looks in action. https://youtu.be/ic0P9iYL6kQ

You can get a better idea of how Acidik works via the promo video below.

Open to feedback and hope you all enjoy the freebie.

Note: Not recommended for users with photosensitive conditions such as Epilepsy.

  • will it work with an iPad?

    • It will, however an iPad is generally too large to balance across your eyes, the effect is also less intense due to the way the visuals are more spread out across the screen, still makes for an ok visualiser at arms length though but the wearable aspect is not really suitable.

    • Works on the iPad under iPhone mode eg. (everything is huge and pixelated)

      • Hmm, that's not expected behaviour for the app either. It shouldn't be pixelated as it has the necessary higher resolution images for iPad/universal although the icons a scaled so will look much larger. Unless it's an issue with iPad Pro as I haven't tested with the current version.

Is your mini also showing pixelated? Generally if it's running in iPhone mode on an iPad it will show a 1x or 2x icon at the bottom right of the screen, it shouldn't be visible in theory though as the app is universal.

  • Pretty cool concept, but how do you quit back to the main menu?? iPhone 7 Plus iOS 10.1.1

I'm not seeing any of the icons as illustrated in the screenshots. Also, once you disable the ads, it doesn't stay permanent. Every time you reload the app, ads appear until you go to settings and disable them again.

    • but, no one ever wants to go back!

    • Thanks for the great feedback.

Once in visualiser mode, click anywhere towards the middle of the screen, a cog icon should appear bottom right , press it to reveal interface, I made it like that to prevent false touches with your nose or forehead.

The ads being displayed after disabling is odd, I will have to look into that. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Try closing the app completely via the app switcher and see if it still happens.

      • Thanks for your efforts champ.

Yes, the cog wheel did indeed appears. I could just barely see it though as it's so translucent lol.

But ya, the ads do still keep appearing once you've exited the app (closing via app switcher). Happens on my iPad Pro, iPad mini and iPod Touch.

        • I think I set the transparency on the cog to 50% which seems ok on my iPhone 5 but perhaps displays a little different on iPhone 7. Thanks for that feedback. I made it translucent as didn't want the icon to appear too visible in the event of an unwanted "nose" touch.

Did you make the IAP via the settings page or when the "do you want to disable ads now" pop up message that appears after the first ad display. Trying to figure out exactly where the issue is for you.

I'm away camping this weekend but will investigate further this coming week. Greatly appreciate your constructive feedback by the way. It means a lot to me.

        • @Gravy:

I'll open the app. An ad appears (usually the Mobile Strike one). I'd go into settings and the toggle "Disble Ads" is set to the left. I'll flick it to the right then be prompted for my iTunes password > Do you want to purchase disable ads for free? > You have already purchased this. Do you want to download it again? > Toggle goes to the right.

I'll use the app and then once I exit and go back into it, it's a case of rinse and repeat.

        • @Gau: Thanks for the followup comment. Are your devices lacking in storage space by any chance? I'm wondering if they are clearing out persistent app data for some reason upon closing. The fact that it's happening on all 3 devices though leads me to think it's related to your account in some way though (guessing they are all the same account?).

        • @Gravy:

iPhone 7 Plus is 256GB and both iPads are 128GB. iPod Touch is 64GB and on son's iTunes account. It's all good. The app still works as intended. Just a pain in the ass to be disabling the ads each time.

        • @Gau: Yeah that is a major PITA, it's the first report I've had of it happening though thankfully (although perhaps some others are experiencing it and just not reporting it, but then I would expect to see at least some comments in a negative review even if they dont contact me directly).

So you have ample space left available on all the devices? That was more what I was asking rather than total storage.

Is your son's iPod also running the same iOS version as the iPads?

What do you think of the app in general by the way? I'm guessing you have tried it in a dark room?? Do you prefer your eyes open or closed? Can you distinguish the colour changes with your eyes closed?

Do I ask too many questions??? ;) (people willing to give constructive feedback are generally like pointy sewing implements in large piles of stock feed…. so please forgive me if I'm latching on).

Edit: I don't suppose you have anything installed on the devices that does some form of automatic cache cleanup or something that clears temporary or app created files each time an app is closed? Do the devices have a JBreak applied (message me if you want to discuss privately)?

        • @Gravy:

They all have roughly 50GB - 75GB free on each device. The iPod Touch has about 25GB left and is also on 10.1.1. None of the devices are jail broken.

I'm liking the app actually. I listen to a lot of progressive and vocal trance. Closing my eyes brings me back to when I was a youngin' at a God's Kitchen rave and pinging off my head lol.

        • @Gau:

Glad you like it and that it brings back memories of what was hopefully a good experience. :)

It generally works very well with most music with a decent beat but you can throw anything at it really.

There is an undocumented hidden feature you might like to try, if you press the top right corner of the screen during playback of the visualizer (when iphone is in portrait orientation) it will allow you to skip to the next track without bringing up any user interface.

If my coder can find the source of the issue you are experiencing with the ads I'll try and remember to let you know but given it seems to be a fairly obscure bug I'm not sure how we will go with that.

  • So you pay for the app then you pay for the ad free version again? That's some rip off sh! T.

    • Thanks for your kind feedback. The app is free and in app purchase to disable ads is currently free.

On the odd occasion that I have ever charged for the app upfront then I have also made the in-app purchase to disable the ads free. Not out to rip anyone off as your post suggests.

Feedback is great but please keep it fair and constructive. I'm giving my work away with no strings attached.

  • Anyone else having the same issue as Gau in the messages above with relation to the disabling of ads not being persistent after closing and restarting the app? Would appreciate if you can please supply iOS version details and device so I can narrow down the issue.
