Overwatch Free Weekend Nov 18-21 (PC, PS4, XB1)

1500

Includes PC this time!

From November 18–21, we're putting out the call to any prospective agents: assemble your team and dive in during the Overwatch Free Weekend on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One!

For this free weekend, we're making Overwatch's full roster of 22 heroes and 13 maps available for play in a variety of modes, including Quick Play, Custom Games, and the latest Weekly Brawl. Players will also have the ability to level up, earn Loot Boxes, and unlock a variety of different customization options.

(Plus, if you decide to purchase a copy of Overwatch after test driving the game, you'll get to keep any progress that you made during the weekend—just be sure to use the same Battle.net, Xbox Live or Sony Entertainment account that you played on.)

    • +1

According to the site you need a PS+ membership to be eligible.

    • You didn't last time

      • Edit. You do this time 🙁

Hope it will be 23 heroes by then ;)

    • Good chance there will be!

    • Are they making me a playable character in Overwatch?

      • Unless your name is Sombra, then no..

        • +7

It's Agro! (Didn't you ever watch Cartoon Connection!? Kids these days, not watching shows that were cancelled before they were born…)

    • That's why they're doing it i reckon

    • +1

Ptr will probably go live at the end of s2 (23rd) so doubt it :p

    • +1

There won't be unfortunately. They can't interrupt the current competitive season with such a major change so Sombra will launch just as it finishes which is after the weekend.

Not again… last time this happened the game became unplayable and I struggled to connect to the servers let alone get a game (Xbox 1).

Hopefully they've fixed it this time.

    • u sure it wasn't because of poodle corp etc. ddos?

      • I have no idea what caused it other than it was on the free weekend. Whether it was a DDOS or a crap load of free players, shit went to hell.

        • Yep, last time this was on Blizzard didn't allow Australians to play. This is what happened:
          Error starting game, trying again

No problem Tone. Got to keep yourself busy with all that free time you have now.

    • Final medical examination?

    • +1

Nice it will throw your mind off thinking about fails incoming ;)

when can we pre download. this will take 5 days to download from optus cable i reckon! argh

    • +1

Just copy and paste it from your friend's PC

    • The game is actually only 7.3 GB

    • I was able to download the game client before about a month ago without purchasing OW. I think it's doable for all Blizzard games?

    • Blizz games are always available to download regardless of how much or little of the game you've actually purchased

Sorry Overwatch, Battlefield 1 called so will spend time with him instead.

    • +4

Give it a go at least, I've had so much fun in Overwatch.

      • I have before for a brief time (last free weekend) and if I played it more, I'd probably enjoy it. But limited budget and limited game time means limiting options. :)

        • +1

Same reason I CBF playing Battlefield 1. I'd play it for a few hours and then move on like every other BF game.

        • +1

I like both BF and overwatch, unfortunately a game in BF is around 30 minutes long and sometimes I feel like a quick game or two and that's where Overwatch shines, the matches are on average 8~12 minutes long.

Also there's no grind in overwatch, I'm sick of the 60+ hours of gameplay you have to put in BF before you can truly enjoy the game with all it's choices of weapons and load-outs.

        • @scrimshaw: Really no grind? That's impressive.

        • @jazoom:
it's just like DOTA. Entirely skill based, you don't grind for heroes, though you can level up and get more unlockable costumes, emotes, voice lines, victory poses and sprays, all of which are not part of gameplay and are for cosmetics / looks only.

        • @scrimshaw: Makes sense. Thanks.

    • Did you just assume Battlefield 1's gender?

  • Anyone know if trophy / achievement earning is eligible for this one? Cheers!

    • From the FAQ - "Trophies and achievements, however, have been disabled for the Free Weekend."

      • Cheers for reading what I could not be bothered to. :)

Would be interesting to have all the trophies ready to pop from this, then buy the game, then pop them all in like 5 minutes.

  • I've had a PS4 for a while but never bothered with PS+ (or using it at all be honest) but what with uni holidays coming up, maybe I'll give it a shot. Can anyone recommend where I might get a year's subscription on the cheap? No idea if prices vary much

    • +1

black friday sales are coming soon, usually the best place is to get it from amazon during that time.

  • +1

I played this on Xbox on the last free weekend and purchased it on PC after seeing it was a lot of fun!

  • +8

    Q. Do I need Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus to participate in the Free Weekend?
    A. Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus is required to play on Xbox One during the Free Weekend.

Damn, xbone people need both subs to play.

  • Can you Preload the game?

    • No Preload for PC.

  • Make the game cheaper and we might buy it…

    • +2

      It's worth every $$$$

    • +2

Blizzard have been providing free content since the game launched. No expansion packs or lame DLC unlike BF and COD. The only way they make extra money is if you want to buy loot boxes to earn skins or voice lines, but you earn plenty of them just playing the game and there's no need to buy them at all. So for 60-70 bucks you're getting a fantastic game which will probably have years of updates and content.

    • It's been on sale on Xbox before and was a deal of the week on PS4 a month or so back.

    • Even if you pay double price you won't regret it, there is so much content and they keep adding stuff for free like new heroes maps .. events for holidays etc.

I am not a heavy gamer by any means.. but I have stopped playing everything else since I got hooked on overwatch.. really fun game, try i tout

6am 19/11 for eastern Australian states.

    From blizzard site:

    6:00 a.m. AEDT on Nov 19

    8:00 a.m. NZDT on Nov 19

  • Rainbow Six Siege is supposedly having another free weekend at the same time, too. Much prefer Siege.

  • How does this game go on an ultrawide 21:9 monitor?

    • There's no support for it, sorry :c

It'll center on your monitor at 16:9

      • Ewww.

  • best gold price for 1 month anyone has seen lately?

  • Bloody hard to find the PS4 version. It's not coming up in the AU store via the website. What you need to do is find the advert on the store on the PS4. You can then click "get demo".

  • Also on special for 53.95 AUD until the 28th from the blizzard store. Downloaded it today and will probably pull the trigger at that price.

  • For those who have played the free weekend and afterwards… Is it still easy to find a game ?
