PlayStation 4 Pro Discount On New Release Titles $39 @ JB-Hi-Fi

620

Good Evening Everyone!

I hope you all have your pre-orders paid off or are in the process of doing so for the PlayStation 4 Pro, launching tonight at EB Games stores across Australia.

JB-Hi-Fi is implementing this deal regarding Rise of the Tomb Raider, Skyrim: Special Edition, Dishonored 2 and Watch_Dogs 2. If you pick up a PS4 Pro console you will receive any of those titles for $39.

I have my pre-order with EB Games and have since phoned them, they will further discount their copies of these titles to $39. It's not a massive saving, but might drive those consumers to giving these games a go!

(Included a picture from my email as there was no direct link to the deal).

Happy Launch All!

          you're right, i was being a dick

You say you weren't aware. Then you say you had no idea. You firstly said you were a little annoyed. Then you accused the staff member of coming up with some excuse. Then you came here to type up a complaint comment. You are having a cry about it. Other peoplle getting it at other stores "doesn't change the fact of this".

Don't accuse and slander a staff member like that next time until you get all your facts straight.

        • @Crowdedthehouse:
I certainly hope you don't mean to imply I accused the staff member in store? When I was told the deal wouldn't be matched I double checked and after confirmation I said ok and bought the items anyway.
Yep, sounds like I cried about it.

Afterwards I posted a message here mainly so others would know that this isn't a guaranteed deal if you're shopping at EB. Sure I was a little annoyed because I missed out, but that's a far cry from the picture you're attempting to paint where I was apparently stewing with rage and couldn't wait to bitch about it on ozbargain.

And slander? (Technically it would actually be libel). I didn't name names, I didn't name store, I didn't even name which state I was in.

I recommend you heed your own advice regarding premature accusations.

  • Is this the same as the code name Neo?

    • Yes. This is the 'neo'.

  • Eb games is very hit or miss. Depends on person doing the matching for you. In dame store different staff can refuse come back next day another person matches it without any question.

It's really frustrating especially when u r a loyal customer who is very regular.

Do you know what the actual policy is though? TBH the employee that refuses you is probably following actual policy and the others are doing you a favour. I don't think it's fair to complain that you aren't always being given a favour.

      • What?

        • Which part is confusing? The complaint is that not all employees are willing to bend the rules…

        • @noodlesfordaddy: Nah buddy, think you've got it wrong. I think the 'complain', as you see it, is that there doesn't seem to be a standard. As you yourself have mentioned 'the employee that refuses you is probably following actual policy and the others are doing you a favour'. Shouldn't all employees be following the policy? If EB Games aren't supposed to price match, I would rather all employees just tell me that rather than getting a no from one employee and a yes from another.

        • @alwaysupforabargain: "Shouldn't all employees be following the policy? "

Absolutely, but if some are willing to break policy to do you a favour, it isn't fair to then complain that not all are willing to take that risk

        • @noodlesfordaddy: I understand what you're saying but if someone is breaking policy then they shouldn't be working for that company.

But this price match hit or miss business at EB Games seems to be happening all over the country which means that it's not something that is regulated. In that case, a customer should be able to voice their frustration about it. If it's company policy to not price match, then no employee should do it and you won't have anybody complaining about it.

I should add that I'm not complaining since I've never tried to price match anything at EB but I can't see anything wrong with what Bargaingeek has said above.

        • @alwaysupforabargain: if everyone followed actual price matching policy (the store has to be within x distance, you must call to confirm stock, you cannot trade games in towards that purchase), there would be WAY MORE complaints about that. We, the employees, are trying to help the customer by cutting corners where we can to satisfy the customers regardless of the rules we should be following.

        • @noodlesfordaddy: OK, I wasn't aware of the exact policy. Where can I actually see that policy? I can't seem to find it on the EB Games website.

Quite often EB Games seem to be priced higher than most other stores which is why people will try to price match. You probably don't control the prices so you can't do much about that. But if someone is refused a price match, they will complain. Some people may not be aware of the policy, so sometimes their complaints may be valid, other times they may not be. If a price match is refused, the customer will probably buy the item from the other store with the cheaper price and EB Games will lose the business.

At the end of the day, you work in retail and as difficult as that is, people will always complain. But you need to see why the people are complaining before trying to defend the company.

        • @alwaysupforabargain: I actually don't know where you'd find it, it's just information I'd been passed down.

I fully understand why someone would complain, I just don't think "this employee wasn't willing to break store policy just for my benefit" is a justified complaint.

        • @noodlesfordaddy: So yeah that policy not being readily available is an issue to being with.

And I guess I found my issue with this conversation. You don't know what exactly happened to Bargaingeek to cause the complain. So you can't say that it is not a justified complaint. I'm not saying it is justified but maybe he/she was refused a price match flat out regardless of the policy so wouldn't the employee be at fault there? You seem to have assumed that the customer is at fault and say that he/she shouldn't complain.

        • @alwaysupforabargain: " I'm not saying it is justified but maybe he/she was refused a price match flat out regardless of the policy"

In this case Bargaingeek would be right, but honestly it's extremely unlikely. Price matching makes up a very large percentage of our sales, and the POS screen has a big "price match" button on it.

        • @noodlesfordaddy: You're probably right, just saying a little open-mindedness won't hurt.

  • If you put two games in your cart it looks like it reduces them both to $39

  • My husband just picked up his pre-ordered console from EB and the store matched JB for all the games (so he got one copy of each game for $39 each).

  • How does it work with Watch dogs 2, with it coming out on the 15th? Pay then pick up later? Weird- you would have thought they'd be smart enough to bring the game out earlier for maximum sales.

    • err the retailers don't decide game release dates. I know that at EB you just pay today for WD2 and then pick it up on release

      • Thanks bud, I understand it wasn't the retailer. I was referring to the publishers decision.

Just bought my ps4 pro along with dishonored 2 and watchdogs 2. Had everything paid for and organised to be picked up on the day of release.

  • What's the rush? I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot cheaper after Xmas.

  • Thanks op, After a while waiting in jb for them to find out about the deal they've preordered watch dogs for 39!

I got mine for $39 on both Tomb Raider and watch dog 2 at my local eb store(Ringwood VIC).
He refused it at the starts, but he then changed his mind and actually looked in to it.
And yes, Eb games is very hit or miss. It really depends on the person you talk to,his mood and how much he is willing to do for you.
For the persons that doesn't like to deal with all those hassle about calling the manager then calling the store for confirmation, he/she will not price match it for you.
You do have to be polite and ask gently if you want to price match.
you must also provide enough evidence to talk through him.

  • I just pick up my PS4 pro at Victoria garden VIC and the staff is not willing to price match game for $39, but I got half price off for watch dog 2.

Went to ebgames to pickup my ps4 pro pre-order, the girl who usually price matches for me wasn't there. Guy at the counter refused to price match, $5 difference between them and JBhifi for the games and i refuse to go to the local JBhifi because the store clerks are jerks. So i picked it up anyway.

ps4 pro is great so far, but dissapointed with lack of 4k bluray player and the OS is exactly the same as ps4 nothing new, plus side games that are optimized run faster and upscaling looks good.

  • EB wouldn't match $39, wanted $49. Didn't care enough with my backlog and passed on the deal. The only take away from this is not to pre-order from EB in the future if they are unwilling to be compete.

Matched mine and the rest of my other 3 mates who picked up Pros. Just gotta be nice man.
