How does this compare to say…a $4 printer from TGG?

    • +8

      this is in stock…..

    • That $4 printer is a basic consumer inkjet multifunction printer. This one here is a business multifunction printer. There's a big difference in quality.

  • @ ebay (OfficeMax)

  • what is the bargain here. Original price for it

    • $799

  • -1

Wow. That is a good price on what seems like a nice printer but for some stupid reason I now have a collection of cheap printers still in the boxes including the woolworths canons at $8, another supermarket HP for $20 and possibly TGG $4 printer… I don't know why I can 't stop buying cheap but useless (to me) items…

  • Half the cost per page of colour lasers? Truly?

I have a HP Officejet 7612 inkjet and lost 95% of the ink (literally) to the startup cleaning cycle. Learnt my lesson. Laser next time.

    • I thought the same until I went through 3 colour lasers that all seemed to eat the toner if I was printing only a handful of pages at a time as colour lasers have a calibration routine that which uses toner on startup & intervals… However, black-only lasers do not do this calibration (synchronization) routine and don't waste toner.

      • Oh, so I can't win if I want colour printing.

I'm the guy that prints something once every couple of months :/

        • Just go to Officeworks and pay 20cents per page.

  • wait, the ink costs more than the printer itself
    http://www.inkstation.com.au/4-pack-hp-970-971-genuine-inkje…

    • Printer was $799, you can't compare the ink price against the heavily discounted price.

    • +2

wow… that is crazy and HP is locking out 3rd party cartridges so doing a firmware update may mean you can't save money on those type of cartridges.

  • New version of this is the X577DW, which retails for around $700. Just update the firmware when you get it, and it should save you a few headaches. All in all, not a bad machine.

@ OP - Is HP still providing a 12 month warranty on this brand new product, even if it's superseded?

    Cheers.

    • Yes they are

  • +5

    Great price. Untrustworthy company.

    • This is because of their retarded pricing system. Which is their own fault. It's about time printers were priced higher and the ink cheaper. Just due to landfill.

Frankly, every office worker should be allowed to do a certain amount of personal printing so that we don't buy & bin so many printers, and waste so much ink in cleaning cycles. Even if you pay the cost per page, that's totally fine with me. Honesty/traceability is obviously the issue.

      • The printers at my workplace track how many pages are printed by each person and when. We are allowed small amount of personal printing tho

  • These printers are brilliant. Very cheap on ink too.

  • +1

awesome printer paid 569 for mine

  • +2

cost per page is cheap given cartridge yield of XL cartridge
    bloody fast as well

  • Does this come with a full or "starter" set of cartridges?

    • The factory starter set of cartridges

  • Pretty good printer, very fast and good colours that don't run when wet/highlighted. Can't use generic "HP-compatible" cartridges though, it'll print once then throw an error that locks up your printer until you pull out and re-sit the compatible cartridge.

    • I would say that the compatible cartridges that you are using are crap faulty.

  • Recently purchased one of these then returned it. I had very high hopes - it is super fast, very cheap to run but as soon as you have any sort of block of colour on the page the page gets too wet and crinkles. Went back to a laser.

    • What paper did you use? Did you try the HP paperlok papers?

  • Can vouch for these Page-Wide models. I have a MFP 577DW and the price per pages is MUCH cheaper than any laser I've ever owned and its at least 3x quicker than any laser I've ever owned.

They say 42-72 pages per minute and it is absolutely true the pages fly out without the warm up time of lasers. Go see a demo of one they're really awesome and the features are top notch.

    THE ONLY CAVEAT!!!

The fax module/firmware is crap FOR ME. I have auto answer turned off, and I've even had the fax module replaced already but for some reason, no matter what settings I use, the printer "listens in" on telephone conversations through the attached phone handset I have. This is not a problem for me as I can understand it's looking for a fax tone to take over from if required BUT it completely mid-detects and pretty much 90% of the time cuts in on my phone call to receive a fax which isn't coming. I've had HP techs go through this and support but somehow, the "never answer" setting still makes the printer listen for fax tones. Again, this would not be a problem but it seems to detect them where there are none.

This could be unique to me (I have an AVM 7490 router on the same line which is capable of receiving faxes and I wonder whether that has anything to do with it), but if I specifically tell a device NOT to do something, that should be it. The HP is behaving like one of my children. Doesn't listen to me.

Everything else is 100% top notch.

Just wondering. Why would you pay $299 + delivery for an HP Color Pro MFP inkjet when you can get this HP Color Pro M177fw MFP laser printer for only slightly more at $320.25 delivered?. But hey this is a laser printer as opposed to that inkjet.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-CZ165A-HP-COLOR-LASERJET-PRO-…

    • I think it has to do with the quality of the inkjet being better and cheaper printing cost without having to replace belts, drums, fusers etc etc

      • Oh well. I have one of these HP Color Pro M177fw laser and the full set of black and 3 colour compatible toners are only $53.40 delivered off eBay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182071790047?_trksid=p2060353.m27… so it's very economical. And it seems to print out colours very nice in quality. Also the imaging drum is rated for 14,000 pages black, 7,000 pages colour so it's not as if that's not going to last the average user a long time. I bought mine back in March 2016 and the imaging drum is still at 80%. So one imaging drum should last the average user a matter of years, depending on how much the person uses the printer.

        • sorry to hear that

    • because the colour pro is not anywhere near the standard of this printer - its a toy for a micro home office

      • Each to their own. I thought Ozbargainers would be using a home office. Not as if they are all running out of a business. But these Color Laserjet Pro M177fw are far from a toy.

I had not used an inkjet printer ever since a dodgy compatible ink cartridge leaked all inside a relatively new HP Laserjet and destroyed it. Not using inkjet again, no thanks.

    Crikey!

$54.50 postage to SE Vic, no thanks…..

    • it is a MASSIVE box

      • But $5.50 syd/melb metro…..

        • So any one outside of those capital cities are totally shafted when it comes to delivery. They must use a different and cut price courier in those capital cities.

yep if you want to see crazy shipping prices check out the lego store shop.lego.com

if you order under $200 shipping is crazy as is express shipping

        • Gosford NSW - outside metro area - its quoting as $5.50

Yikes. It would be cheaper to buy one of those HP Color Pro M177fw laser MFP off eBay for that $320.25 delivered from that one i pointed to. Just a deal i thought i'd share in case any one wanted a laser printer.

      • Yup, would buy otherwise

      • no duplexer
small page count 150 page tray lol
        expensive cost per page

not a business grade printer no thanks

        • $53.40 delivered for 4 set of compatible toner off eBay (Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) is expensive?. And since when was a HP Color Pro laser not business grade?. These things are made for a SOHO and small business.

        • @hollykryten:
enjoy your printer youll probably be able to pick up another one dirt cheap when they offload the unsold stock

        • @aussman:

Thanks. I've been enjoying mine since March. Still on the original imaging drum at 80%. And at about 1.2c per page using compatible cartridges it doesn't seem very costly at all. So what you claimed by expensive cost per page is totally wrong as compatible toners are far cheaper. And these printers are fine for SOHO and even the home user. Isn't that what Ozbargainers are?.

        • -1

150 page tray is fine for the average home user and even a home office. It's not as if they may be printing hundreds of pages per day. Also who is the target user on Ozbargain, it's the home user and SOHO.

Also which serious business uses an inkjet printer in the first place.

  • Nobody here buys original ink.

The cost of compatible ink is more than twice that per page of my Brother laser toner. (Which is $80 for a set of 4, similar claimed yield.)

Do inkjet prints still smear when they get a bit wet? And lots of ink wasted on startup? Clogged jets?
If I was going to get an inkjet again, it would be a 6-colour one for proper photo printing.

I still have an old HP officejet, but only use it for scanning.

    • -1

As i said, the set of 4 compatible toner for my HP Laserjet Pro M177fw is $53.40 so even cheaper than that, i worked it out at about 1.2c per page. Yet some people seem to be criticising me for quoting this printer. It's extremely economical to run.

Laser printers are way better as you said. And i'm wondering if you're running a business, why would you use an inkjet printer?. They are slow and generally a higher cost to run per page.

      • Not really cheaper as those cartridges have low yield - 1200 pages @ 5%. But still good.

        • not cheaper at all bloody expensive!!
any printer with a yield of 1000 is a toy
          quick google shows
          http://www.inkstation.com.au/5-pack-hp-970xl-971xl-compatibl…
          $350 18400 black pages
          and 6600 colour pages
(edit two black ink cartridges included)

        • -1

          @aussman:

Those cartridges are super expensive for the home user, $350 for a set of 5 compatible ink cartridges?. Not some thing that the home user will be using. The HP Laserjet Pro MFP 177fw laser printer i quoted to would be much better for home users, since the compatible toners are much cheaper and it's not as if they will be printing many thousands of pages any time soon, and not as if they can afford to shell out $350 for a set of cartridges. I mean what home user will be buying this HP Officejet Pro x576dw printer unless they have very big wallets. The Ozbargain target customer is the home user which this printer is not suited for. It's about who can afford to pay that much for cartridges, the HP Laserjet Pro is much more affordable in startup running costs for the home user.

        • @hollykryten:
          maths not your strong point

        • -1

          @aussman:

Economical affordability for the home user. The average home user wouldn't be able to afford to shell out $350 for cartridges. When you could pay around $50 for a set of 4 compatible toners even if they may be $1000 each if you only say print out a few hundred pages every few months, they may last you months, under those conditions having an 18k cartridge would be a waste of money at such a high price. It's all about what the user is going to use it for and how much they can afford to do so.

        • @aussman:

It's not about maths, it's about affordability. Not every one can afford to pay a few hundred bucks upfront just on cartridges.

These printers here in the thread deal are designed for a larger high volume print business that can afford to continually pay such a high price on printer consumables. It's definitely not made and targeted for the home or SOHO user customer. That HP Color Laserjet Pro M177fw is though.

So you may say it's a toy, it may be so compared to this HP Officejet Pro, but that printer is not made for the home and SOHO users.

So tell me again who make up most of the Ozbargain crowd, isn't it the average home users?. This printer was not designed for the average Ozbargainer and hence the consumable cartridge price reflects it.

        • +1

@aussman: I have this printer and bought compatible cartridges from inkstation, but they are detected as non genuine and the printer will only print once before it refuses to print more.

        • @NoRotation:
did you update firmware with link I listed above?

        • @aussman: Thanks, but I've thrown away the cartridge anyway. Maybe next time I need to refill I bet another $70 and hope HP haven't changed their mind once again.

    • nah had this model for 2 years now print 10K + pages per year
      no clogs
      no smears

  • hmmmmm

  • These printers are awesome, I purchased few of them. It is for business purposes.
