if i already didn't have most of those games i'd defo jump onto the $5 tier.
still tempted… as i don't have galaxy trucker or san juan

  • Assuming these deals are never for IOS? Really want these!

    • +7

I don't think Apple allows for non market apps to be installed on iOS, so there isn't currently any mechanism that Humble Bundle can use to distribute the games to iOS users.

For Android, you download and install the game files separately from the Google Play store

  • Typical - just after they all went on sale individually… It's probably not worth buying this bundle as I've already got all the good games - seriously good value bundle otherwise though.

  • Do these games get the same updates as if bought on the Google Play Store?

    • +4

The apps don't update automatically, but I've found that for previous Humble Mobile Bundle games I've bought, the apk files are updated on their servers. So you can download APKs for the latest version.

If you use the Humble Bundle app, it can also notify you when updates are available. Downloads can be done through the app or directly through the website.

got both catan and carcassone from cheap deals on here already

    • Same. Otherwise, this is a goood deal.

  • Are any of these decent as single-player games?

I love the idea of boardgames, but never feel like playing with anyone else!

    • +1

carcassone is ok in single player

    • +1

      San Juan, definitely. Lovely game.

  • +2

great games but just a warning these are full of in app purchases. if you want the full games it will cost you a lot more than $5

    • +1

Catan in app is about $16.99 +$1.99 for everything

    • +1

Are they still playable without purchases? If not I'm sad I bought them! I'll never purchase any in-app stuff, and especially not if I paid for the game…

      • +1

i've got catan. (previous purchase) only the base game is playable (which is still good). you'll have to pay if you want to use any of the expansions.

        • I think you get two other expansions included with the base - one of the seafarers and one of the others.

    • +1

To be fair, the in-app purchases are for additional maps. Much like the actual physical version of Ticket to Ride only comes with one map, you purchase additional maps depending on what you want.

For Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride multiplayer, only the host of the game needs the expansion, so you don't really have to buy them if you don't want to. For Catan, all players require the expansion, sadly.

Question, if i buy the games through humble bundle, if i want to buy the expansions, do i get the expansions through Google app store?

    • +2

Yep. I bought the Carcassonne expansions as IAP through the Google Play store. It links the licenses to the expansions to your Google account.

I've got a few of these and enjoy board games. If you haven't played a mobile app version of a board game before, the experience isn't quite the same. Part of the fun of board games is moving physical pieces around and being in the room with your mates, a lot of that is lost when using an app.

That said, this bundle includes great board games and will give you an opportunity to try them on the cheap before committing to a full board game purchase.

Carcassone, Ticket to Ride and Catan are all popular board games that probably don't need any introduction.

I've got the physical copy of Splendor and it's a great game - Easy to pickup and not too long.

Galaxy Trucker is fantastic, it's a crazy and hectic game about building a ship to fly around space and earn money. There's something very exciting about trying to make it back alive with half your ship intact.
The app has done the difficult job of preserving the chaos of the board game and even introduced a new way to play. It also adds a full campaign mode. If you like the board game, the app is a faithful remake.

    • +2

I agree with moving pieces and being with your mates.

However i do like the fact that you can play a game in half the time it would take to the the real board game.

Ticket to ride in particular plays really well and i think just as good as the actual board game if not better because you can add AI players.

  • Would these kinds of board games be better on a 7" or 10" tablet?

  • +1

could you play ticket to ride multiplayer over the internet? In the old days on my iphone 3gs I could play the GF from my house over internet. if I get the android version does it have multiplayer connectivity with those who own the game directly from IoS?

So $5 tier gets you all 3 games for $5 once off? Ticket to ride, san juan and galaxy trucker? Haven't played the latter 2 - are these suitable for solo play or 'pass the mobile' if you have a second player (gf) or more?

  • Already got Catan and Carcassonne for $0.20 but still couldn't resist.

  • Thanks OP! I've purchased the $5 tier bundle; Hopefully they will allow us to download the next upcoming tier 2 game that's being uploaded in a few days.

For anyone new to Humble Bundle like myself, you visit their website, pay $1, $3, or $5(access to all games) according to what you want, create an account, receive your confirmation receipt, then log on to their website via your phone, go to LIBRARY, and download each game's individual APK file, give permissions to install, PLAY!

Easy enough but daunting at first given that you don't access your games via PlayStore.

    • I'm glad you like it! Usually the extra games come after about a week.

They have an app as well that you can get off their site to download the games from.

  • Can I install and use the app in two devices? I know this works for catan when it was purchased through Play Store.

    • +1

Yes. But if you buy the IAPs they'll associate to your Google account, so I'm not sure if that will work on two devices at once

      • a lot of the games are part of the 'family' library.
if you set this up, two devices would be no problem.
