  • why to have G-SYnc for a 60 Hz screen o.O

    • +6

Because Gsync isn't reliant on high refresh rates, it just matches your displays refresh rate to the games fps to stop tearing.

      • That's much more insightful , so a guaranteed 60 FPS … tempting :)

        • Not specifically a guaranteed fps, but if your game dips down to 40fps, your display refresh will dip to match so you don't get tearing.

Although, almost any game will be fine for a locked 60fps with a 1070 and 1080p right now!

        • @XeKToReX: Cool thanks mate :)

  • Windows 10 is an extra $139 or $219 for the Pro version.

  • Whats the colour accuracy of the screen?

    • +3

@wolfenator87: It comes with a 512Gb M.2 SATA SSD, which is a rather expensive device (note the bolded part in the description). It also has spaces to install up to two more 2.5" drives of your choice.

They don't install on OS by default because they give the user choice to install whatever they want. Windows 7, 10 Home or 10 Pro can be included for extra cost.

As for an optical drive……who even uses those? I note that an external optical drive is also an option for $50.

The price is pretty decent for a full quadcore i7, GTX 1070, 1080p G-Sync display and free shipping.

how does one install windows :p
        without an optical drive :p

        • +5

          Using a flash drive.

I'd even say that's the default method with Windows 10.

    • +2

It comes with a Sandisk 512GB SSD. That's all a laptop should need.

      • OK I'll take the optional part out of the list. It was included to highlight the expand-ability of the laptop with 4 x HDD/SSD bays :)
You won't void the warranty if you install your own extra drives later on.

        • Well some people might like it.

Although i think for a laptop, if they want an extra hard drive to store storage data on there's nothing stopping them from buying a portable external hard drive.

        • Looks like the post I was replying to here has been deleted :)

Hi Wolfenator87, the laptop comes with a 512GB M.2 SSD, much faster than a Hard Drive.
The laptop is very thin as well so no room for an optical drive, besides not a lot of people require them anymore. You can get an external unit though for +$45 if required.
With Windows, a lot of our customers are students who get Windows for free or discounted price, so they don't want to pay extra for something they already have for free :)
Plus a lot of customers are upgrading laptops and already have a Windows copy so don't want to pay twice for it.

At $2349 and with the latest Pascal GTX1070 graphic card, I am confident that you wont find a cheaper new model GTX1070 Gaming laptop anywhere in Australia.

If $2349 is too much then may I suggest the Metabox P650RP-G starting at $1929. It has similar specs but with the GTX1060 graphics card :)

Very thin laptop, in other words a very high end and souped up gaming Ultrabook.

    • Can you find us a comparable laptop for cheaper?

btw, comparable means including the SSD, GTX 1070 and the i7-6700HQ. Even that CPU is hard to find, being a full power part compared to the more common low power U series.

  • Have you heard anything about a GTX 1080 in 15.6"? Seems like they don't exist yet :/

    • Yes, that's correct, Too much heat in a smaller chassis. They seem to be only available in the 17.3" laptops so far.
      Aorus X7 DT v6, Metabox P775DM2-G and Metabox P870DM2-G.

      • I thought it only 150W vs. 180W TDP, but I guess that's the cutoff. Pity.

  • wow, the price!!!

    • +4

Yes.. Half the cost of a new Macbook Pro with twice as much performance!!

      • -1

except the graphic card, my Asus N552VX uses pretty much same specs but only cost me less than half this price half a year ago

        • -2

and with Windows 10 Home 64-bit installed, plus DVD drive

        • Well.. a Desktop GTX 1070 will set you back about $700 (laptop versions are actually more than this) AND uses a G-Sync panel ($50 price difference?). Twice as much RAM as your Asus (not too much extra - $80 more?) and uses a 512GB M2 drive instead of the SATA HDD ($400 difference?).

Explains why it is twice as expensive as your Asus, factoring in the Optical drive ($45) and OS ($129).

I'm kind of glad I bought my 17.3" P670RE Metabox during the EOFY sales with the GTX970 for under $2K..

          @bchliu:

Really? I'd be devastated. The difference between the 970 and 1070 is insane. I'd happily pay for that enormous upgrade. Plus they're not nearly as crippled like the 9 series laptop counter parts.

        • @Yekul: I opted for the bigger screen option (ie. 17" 970GTX) but could have got the 15" 980GTX version (as it is with this particular model). I may regret it a bit later on, but at the moment its not too bad considering the 17" version of this particular machine with the updated video would be another $700 over what I paid for mine ($400 difference in the video option plus $300 to upsize to larger model). I look at it that if I save $700 every year, then I'd be able to afford the next generation model in 3 years time. My 970GTX is good enough for at least 3 years worth here and aim to replace it when another EOFY sale comes on in 2019..

  • This is a good deal but I would have preferred the previous deal with the GTX1060 instead of GTX1070 for $1,929 (includes $50 G-Sync).

For me, the extra $420 is not worth it.

    • I'll PM you.
      Kris

      • I would also have much preferred this deal. Is it still possible? Thanks

    Damn! What a nice laptop.

I hope there's such a deal when my son grads in June!

    :)
