Claratyne Reditabs - 30 Oral Disintegrating Tabs $16.90 (FREE Collect or + $5 Post) RRP $44.95 @ Blackshaws Road Pharmacy [VIC]

80

Another deal on some branded antihistamines. These are the Claratyne orally disintegrating tablets so you can carry them around and take one if you're suddenly afflicted with allergies (sneezing, watery itchy eyes, runny nose or an itchy rash). They melt in your mouth so there's no need to look for a bottle of water to help swallow them. They are faster acting with peak plasma levels are usually seen within 1 to 2 hours.

Of course, there are cheaper options if you're just after the generic loratidine, but this should be the best price for the Claratyne Reditabs 30 pack (that I can find at least). Amcal are selling these for $44.95 (http://www.amcal.com.au/medicine-treatments/hayfever-allergy…).

Great handy option if Claratyne works for you and you're wary about no-name generics.

Not a deal to be sneezed at.

  • Whats the expiry date on these?

    • +2

Expiry date is end of September 2017.

      • Are these better than Zyrtec?

        • +1

They are far less likely to make you drowsy compared to Zyrtec. In terms of effectiveness as an antihistamine they should be about the same.

        • @BlackshawsRdPharmacy:
i wouldn't say far less. the second gen antihistamines aren't too far different in somnolence compared to older gens like phernagan

        • +1

@xbai: I'm not sure what you mean by "aren't too far different in somnolence" but older generation antihistamines like phenergan (promethazine) are part of the phenothiazines family which are rated as having significant sedative and anticholinergic effects, while also lowering seizure threshold and causing respiratory depression whereas the second generation ones like Claratyne (loratidine) are actually classed as "Non-Sedating" as well as having far less anticholinergic effects with a better safety profile in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Info from Australian Medicines Handbook 2016 in case anyone else wants to look it up.

        • @xbai:

Note: Zyrtec can cause extreme sleepiness in some people, while others do not experience sleepiness. Take it for the first time when you will be at home for a few hours, in case it makes you sleepy.

        • @HugoHugo: yes loratadineand cetirizine are non sedating antihistamines, that is, the class as a whole isnt that different, NOT like the older ones

        • @manic: it says that on PI of just about every OC antihistamine

        • +1

@xbai: I misread your comment, I thought you were saying that there isn't much difference between the first versus the second generation. Sorry!

Plus-voting because Associated OP and Associated colleague provide sensible, attentive answers.

Is anyone else finding this hayfever season to be way more aggressive than previous years? Maybe just in WA? 2 people I know who have never had it before have it and I'm copping it good. The bushfire burnoffs and associated smoke haze didnt help but even on a fine day… ugh.

You can buy 9 packs of 30 tabs for about $20 delivered from here: https://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/allergy-hayfever-relief-lora…

With Loratadine you don't actually need to take them with water, as they are quite sweet anyway.

OP, aside from the packaging can you tell me the difference between the brand and the generic?

    • how much is delivery? very useful so much cheaper than here.

      • +1

For the 9 pack it is 5.63+6.49 delivery. All up 12.12Gbp to NSW approx $19.50 AUD. There are frequent voucher codes, and topcashback too I think.

  • They both contain the loratidine molecule. There might be some differences in the type of filler (lactose, binder and preservative) used. Theoretically they should work in the same way but some people do find that one works faster and are more potent compared to the other. Others still prefer the original brand due to quality and trust issues.

If you want a cheaper generic, we have those too of course.

  • Thanks UNO. Prices for allergy tablets are extortionate here. I stock up when I (rarely) get to the UK. Had never considered getting them online! I now have 360 Zirtek/Zyrtec generics winging their way to me to keep me and my OH sniff-free over summer. big thumbs up

Tried these here at Chemist Warehouse, they're pretty awesome. Paid $26 at one CW, found it minutes later (!!!) for $23 at a nearby CW.
Ordered several packs to cover me for this season, as the $5 postage is flat rate. :)

    • Posted out today. Thanks for your order! :)

      • Great deal, my coworker loved em. Are you planning on doing this special again anytime soon? :P

        • The Claratyne Reditabs aren't on special at the moment, but we do have the regular Claratyne tablets for $23.95 for a pack of 60.
          http://blackshawsroadpharmacy.com.au/index.php?rt=product/pr…

It's better value than what Chemist Warehouse are charging. They have the packs of Claratyne 30 tablets for $26.69.

        • @BlackshawsRdPharmacy:

Thanks - do you have any idea how long that special will run for?

        • @kwchaz: The Claratyne 60 tabs will be on special until the 24/11/16. After that, just give us a call on 03 9391 3257 and we'll see if we can still get it in for that price for you. :)
