Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Unveiled with Curved Display, Snapdragon 821, 6GB RAM, and B28 (700)

Xiaomi has announced the successor to last year's Mi Note, the Mi Note 2. As expected, the Mi Note 2 has everything you'd imagine from a high-end phone, including a 5.7-inch dual curved QHD display with a flexible OLED panel, 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821, 6GB of RAM, 128GB UFS 2.0 storage, 22.56MP rear camera (Sony IMX 318) with EIS and 4K video stabilization, 8MP front shooter with autofocus, NFC, a DAC that enables 24bit/192kHz audio, and a 4070mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.

The Mi Note 2 has a 3D curved back that match the curved edges at the front, resulting in a symmetric design similar to that of the Note 7. A notable addition is support for global LTE bands, with the phone offering 37 bands in total:

GSM: 2/3/5/8
CDMA 1X: 0/1/10/15
WCDMA: 1/2/4/5/8
TD-SCDMA: 34/39
LTE-TDD: 38/39/40/41
LTE-FDD: 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/29

So, come on folks, who will be buying it?

5.7" is too big for me :(

Now before everyone goes hating on B28 and saying they're fine without it…. I frequently travel into many rural areas where the only 4G band is B28. So I'd be lost without it ;)

Once go big you will hate small.

      • +2

I'm perfectly fine with small thanks. It won't fit in my pants if it's too big.

        • +3

Get a bigger pants? Kidding you are fine.

Glad I'm not the only one who's not liking the trend of big phones.

Think 5.2" is prolly the sweet spot for me.

          @scrimshaw:
My 5.5" Meizu note 2 is too big. Maybe the new one handed option in Android will help, but I'm pretty sure my next phone will be 5in.
If there was a good spec China phone at maybe 4.8 or 4.9in I would definitely consider it.

22.56MP rear camera (Sony IMX 318) with EIS and 4K video stabilization, 8MP front shooter with autofocus,

They can put all the fantastic amazing jumbo mambo like 50mp camera but still quality of picture will be worst than middle class samsung or Sony or apple cameras.

    • How do you mean by the quality is poorer than the rest?

      • +2

usually that is the case with chinese phone. they always seems to have VERY VERY GOOD specs - im just talking about the camera here, on paper only but reality is still behind some more established brands.

When will xiaomi phones be sold in Australia? I'd love to get one but won't because there's no Australian warranty, I'm holding back.

    • +3

They'd go into legal patent wars if they were to release their phones here.

      • +2

That's a shame, they're beautiful phones. I'm satisfied with the price of the phone but not sure how durable they are. Could you give some insight please?

        • +3

This article gives you some insight into why they won't sell into the US market and some of it would apply here. The other issue is patents, but they've been rapidly acquiring them with 1500 purchased from Microsoft earlier this year.

Another issue is that they'd have to have an official presence here, comply with Australian safety standards and consumer laws. They would be slow to pickup sales and popularity much like Oppo when they first became available in Australia.

@Clear: Thanks mate, that article has given me a clear insight to some of those issues.

@Clear: Might move to India soon then :)

        • +1

@stuhtb: They were blocked originally at release in India. Good for Xiaomi since they've gone down in popularity in Asia.

        • @Clear: What do you think about these, have heard a lot from this brand but never personally got the chance to use their phones..? :)

          @fossilfuel:
I reckon sooner or later one of the mobile MVNO networks will partner with them and sell a squillion here.

        • +2

@stuhtb: Apple copied their idea of removing the headphone jack. From what I've seen their phones are very good in terms of design and power and often have Dual 3G/4G. I think Xiaomi wins when it comes to the camera and battery life.

        • +1

@Clear: Nice, will perhaps consider buying one too then in the future, their phones appear to have a really good spec to price ratio :)

    • +1

Problem is you can probably add $200 to the price for that, if it happens.

I was just about to buy the Mi5s Plus until i read last night that this phone was coming. Any idea of prices?

From gsmarena It will sell for CNY 3299 ($485) in its home market and CNY 3499 ($520) for the global version, complete with Google Play Services. Those are US dollars.

      • +1

The 4GB version is CNY 2799

Mi Mix for those who want a bigger display http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_teases_mi_mix_concept_with_bo…

    • +2

How the hell do you hold that without any of your fingers accidentally touching the display, was the first thought that came to mind.

      • Open palm style lol. If you mean one-handed, then I'd imagine there could be some difficulty.

      • +1

Edge touch sensors to prevent accidental presses while holding. MKBHD thought it worked pretty well.

Mi mix, mi robot vacuum cleaner, mi eCar. Wow!

Nice tech if the price drops bellow $600AU I will grab the global model band 28, NFC, Dual Band wifi and decent camera they are really lifting their game

  • there's talk it may not be sold outside china

    http://www.androidcentral.com/xiaomi-mi-note-2-mi-mix-china

  • http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Note-2-… - presale at $845 AU but will not ship for another month.

  • For $845 AU, there are quite a few similar phones out there with the same price (or slightly higher/lower prices). Sort of defeats the point of getting a xiaomi… maybe it's the start of them going high-end (price wise).

  • Dual active antenna and NFC must be pricey addons. Finding it hard to get as excited about uber chunks of memory xiaomi keeps uping. Bands, display, but OIS cut oh well.
