        thanks.

      • Conparable 3gb 1060s from umart, cpl, budget pc, msy are all $305-$309 pickup.

Personally recommend MSY's 6gb 1060 Gainward at $375 - a significantly better deal that a 3gb versions with some bits missing..

        • I was comparing this exact Gigabyte variant, rather than 1060 its self. Windforce (imo) is quite a decent looking cooler and (from what I know), quite well performing.

  • How well would this fare on, say, the Witcher 3 on Ultra, 60fps 1080p? Appreciate any tips

    • +1

      great

    • +1

Turn off HairWorks and it should do the job

    • +1

It might struggle a little to hit 1080p@60 consistently on ultra. But it'll do pretty damn well for this price, that's for sure…

Which model is the current "bang for the buck" king?

    • +3

      Super NES.

    • 1050TI. 60FPS @ 1080p with no external power required.

I'd say that this is currently one of the best value for money cards right now. Was shopping for GPUs over the past weeks and settled on a 1060 6GB, simply because I needed the extra performance.

Otherwise, the 1060 3GB was my choice because of value for money. Arguably, the 1060 3GB really is a 1050TI (http://www.anandtech.com/show/10580/nvidia-releases-geforce-…)

      • Thanks for the Anandtech link. Didn't know about the "missing" SM. I'll just add that your tip was spot-on for my research.

      • +3

1060 3GB is not at all a 1050TI. The 1060 still has 1152 CUDA cores and a clock speed of 1506Mhz base… 1050TI has 768 and 1290Mhz. It's comparable in the way of performance:power, though one card is 120w, the other is 75.

May be comparable price to performance wise, though no numbers have been confirmed yet that I know of.

Overall, think 750TI vs 760 - it's the same comparison, just a few years later.

      • I'd like to be able to run the latest games in 1440p at high to ultra settings. What's the best card for this? I'm suspecting that it may be a bit pricey…

        • +2

980Ti, 1070, 1080, Titan X are your options in order of price

        • +2

You will need a 1070 at least.

      • Yep, same performance as my 780 which still is a beast. I'd grab this over a 780 though just for the extra VRAM.

    • +1

1060 3GB but you may run into VRAM issues in the future but that can generally be avoided by dropping the texture settings down a level. 1060 3GB is faster than the RX 480 in all DX11 games. The RX 480 however does perform better in DX12 and Vulkan (destroys the 1060 in Vulkan) but there are so few games that use it (and they still support DX11) that it's not really worthwhile in my opinion. For those reason I feel the 1060 3GB is the best bang for buck card in terms of price to performance right now. Just note the 1060 has no SLI but the RX 480 can be crossfire so if you wanna throw another card in the future then I'd put my money down on the RX 480 8GB.

      • To be fair on the 480 it is supposed to be cheaper than the 1060 by about 50 bucks. Instead it is about 100-150 dollars pricer so unless you are a bitcoin miner you should stay far away.

Usually the model ending in XX60 is bang for buck; and it happens to be the case this time again.
I've been playing Doom on the 6GB version of this card Max settings and getting pretty consistent 60FPS (1920x1080)
Might drop to 40 in the hectic battles.

I have a bit of regret seeing it ridiculously cheap now since I got it for $423 when it first came out https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/259147

      • Depends on needs, '50 series is always better for the lower end of things. Not VR ready, though it'll do well in most games. Also saves you a ton of power ('50 series seems to be the most power efficient).

Even though post adds about $15-$20, it's still good for local.
Alternatively, the EVGA Superclocked 1060 can be had at Amazon for ~$288 AUD delivered: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-… Showing in stock Oct 31.

Pretty sure it comes with a 3 year international warranty.

I bought it last Friday and it was shipped today. Cost me $277 AUD incl. Delivery since I chose to pay in USD.

    better than my old 560ti?

    • Yes it will be zlasuka. Particularly for new games like BF1, where the 560ti really struggles.

  • Surely this will drop a bit further once the 1050 ti is available.

  • Noob question regarding gpu's… this, or this:

      1060

      • Cheers, thank you Mrdavedave.

      • But the 970 has 0.5mb more RAM. :P

    • +1

For that price definitely get the 1060. Latest gen card, check out the other specs yourself

Take 50% off the 970 and it may be worth considering if budget is an issue.

      • Cheers, tahnks for that.

    • +1

For the same price, I'd buy 1060 as 1060 is faster, albeit not by much, in most, if not all, of the benchmarks. Brand new vs second hand(warranty risk), Newer architect vs old(more efficient and better for further games). Keep in mind that 970 is really 3.5gb vram not full 4gb.

      • Cheers, thanks.
