ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX Graphic Card (STRIX-GTX1070-8G-GAMING)

    • +2

Just got mine yesterday - and it is magnificent.

I need to learn how to tweek the software a bit - but I was able to get 2000mhz clock speeds just using the OC mode - through GPU boost 3

  • calm down! calm down! I dont need a NVIDIA VGA, i need freesync, so i must get AMD card.
    Control yourself from these deals!!!

    • I also have freesync monitor but the pascal nvidia cards have fast sync which is good enough for me at 75Hz. SORRRRRRRRYYYYY!!!!

      • So you mean Nvidia cards can boost a Freesync monitor refresh rate up above 60Hz, don't need an AMD card to do that?

        • neither cards do it, refresh rate is independent with your monitor has nothing to do with graphic card. The only thing sync does is to match the frame and the refresh rate. What I meant is fast sync did well with my 75Hz monitor.

        • @echineon: I am not very familiar with these. Do you mean if you have a Freesync monitor capable of 144Hz, a Nvidia card allow you to play the games at 75Hz, instead of limited to 60Hz? Sorry if I sound stupid.

        • +2

          @edfoo:

No it's okay. I suggest you look up screen tearing. What happens when the frame sent by a card is not matched with a monitor refresh rate will make screen tearing. So for example, your screen refreshes at 60Hz, that means every frame will be displayed in 1/60 of a second. The graphic card works at a different frequency, it may do 70 frames a second for example, that means we have 10 frames where the display still refreshing. If the graphic card didn't know this and keep on pushing the image out it will cause screen tearing, where 2 frames are overlapped but not fully displayed. Sync does exactly what it supposed to do, with freesync and g-sync, the principle is the monitor and graphic card work together to display one frame at a time instead of overlapping. Vsync (which is old) usually done at the graphic card only and it limits the graphic card output to 60Hz (or 75Hz or 120 or 144 depends on the monitor) to match the monitor refresh rate. Lastly, fast sync, also done at the graphic card, but instead of limiting it's output which can cause delay (input lag) because the graphic card limited itself, fast sync allows the graphic card to do whatever it is doing, but limit the output so the frame output matches the display rate.

Take for example, freesync or gsync is like order on demand, you (monitor) buy x number of A, the factory (graphic card) makes x number of A, exactly what you ask for, no left over no nothing. Vsync is we will lower our production line to match your demand so we will be slow at accepting our raw materials (so you can move your mouse and press your key but it won't display because they're waiting for buyer). Fast sync is we will still keep our production at our best (means key press, mouse movement will still be accepted) and throw away the extra product that didn't meet deadline (refresh rate). I would say it matches things in car but I guess we're on OzB so it's easier to make that analogy.

/edit: also, sync doesn't do anything to your monitor refresh rate. If the monitor has 75Hz, it won't go higher or lower because of your graphic card (you can lower the refresh rate by changing setting but that's for another day). The graphic card can go lower or higher than the refresh rate however and that's why we need sync to prevent screen tearing.

        • +2

@edfoo: You don't need specifically either card. Both AMD and Nvidia cards will run either your freesync or G-sync monitor at their maximum refresh rate, be that 60, 120, 144 or whatever.

Freesync and G-Sync are technologies that make your monitor refresh in time with the graphics card rendering, making the picture much smoother if your computer can't quite push 60/120/144fps to your monitor at all times. For this you will need a graphics card and monitor that match.

Fast-sync is another technology from Nvidia (not an expert on this one), but I think it makes the picture smoother on your monitor if your graphics card is rendering much faster than your monitor can display, e.g. you're getting 200fps in Counter Strike and you're using a 120Hz monitor. As far as I know it doesn't alter the refresh rate of the monitor, and doesn't need any special technology in the monitor. I think echineon just has a monitor that runs at 75Hz natively.

        • +1

@Alzori: Yup, that's right, my monitor is the one that able to run 75Hz, if your monitor only run to 60Hz then it runs at 60Hz no matter what your graphic card is. Fast sync differs to normal v-sync is because of the input lag as I posted up there. Meaning Vsync makes the input lags because graphic card will process at sync speed, where fast sync allows graphic card operate at higher framerate but send display synced with refresh rate hence the lower input lag and no screen tearing.

        • Thank you guys for taking time explaining to me. Much appreciated.

Ordered the EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC for 606 AU WED night last week.. Arrived yesterday morning (< 7 days for delivery) great service & great card!

    • Was that AU$606 delivered?!

      • +1

It appeared as $605 on my 28 Deg MasterCard when I got it a week ago.

        • Ahh okay, an "elite" international master card lol

        • @Rail Rider95: Elite ?

        • @soupratt:
It's probably the most talked about credit card on this site. "The card to have" lol

        • +2

@Rail Rider95: Its so easy to get though. Perfect for overseas shopping :) And great when travelling so you don't get screwed by credit card conversion fees.

        • +1

          @soupratt:
Well I don't have any credit card atm, not a stable enough income to apply for one
And debit feels safer, cos it's my own money

        • +1

          @Rail Rider95:

How does debit feel safer again? Most credit cards these days have fraud/unauthorized transactions refund policy.. If anything debit feels more unsecured vs a credit card? Unless you mean safer as in not going to spend money you don't have?

        • @chubbychicken:
Definitely the latter. I'm not going to go and spend money I don't have.

        • +1

          @Rail Rider95:

The other option if you don't want to spend money you don't have and a good transaction rate is the Citibank Plus account. It's a debit credit card with no international transaction fee

        • @kawinuyo:
Thanks for that! I'll have to look into it :)

      • +1

Yep 606 delivered using 28 Deg MC

    • what sort of FPS are you getting? @ 1440p in any game :P

i just got that asus for 588 delivered :)

      • I want to know this, too 😉

      • Don't know about 1440p, but in 1080p, it doubled the FPS from gtx 670.

Need to get 1440p monitor to test higher res.

      • I ran the Havens benchmark yesterday and from memory my clock speed was 2023 mhtz on OC mode with no additional overclocking - and the score was like 2200-2400 I can't recall.

Max fps was over 200fps and lowest was 35 or 40 fps.

I then tested witcher 3 and was getting 50-60 fps on ultra with hairworks on

      • I upgraded from 780 to 1070… Roughly 35-40% performance increase in fps according to Heaven and Valley benchmarks… (1440p)

    • +3

I had my card shipped on a Monday and it arrived on Friday the same week. Faster and better service than I get from Auspost for local shipping.

      • +1

mines shipping today i guess wed/thurs next week maybe

    • +1

Ordered mine over a week ago from the ebay tech 20 sale from pc byte. Still hadn't shipped today. Emailed them only to find out they don't have stock. And yet they're still selling on ebay. Should've ordered from amazon. I've requested a refund

      • Local warranty though? Wouldn't that make it worth the wait? So long as they can give you an accurate eta for new stock

        • amazon warranty is way better, they even pay for return shipping.

pcbyte and other eBay sellers are just grey importing like Kogan, not even sure if they pay GST or not, their warranty policy is dodgy at best.

        • +1

No eta as of yet. I wouldn't be so annoyed if they actually contacted me when they realised they were out of stock, rather than wait for me to contact them. Plus they're still talking orders without notifying people, so they're gunna have to wait too. From what I've heard amazon are pretty awesome with thier return policy

      • Same thing happened here, I ordered some ram from PC Byte, waited over a week and I didn't any follow up emails regarding the dispatch of my items. I emailed them today to find out they have no stock nor an ETA of when stock would arrive. I'm really annoyed they they didn't let me know the ram was out of stock until I actually contacted them. Never doing business with this eBay seller again.

        • That was part of my order too mate. I contacted them further and i kept getting the same reply from them "waiting on supplier to contact them". The moment i said i wanted to cancel my it was changed to posted.
Still nothing on the ram though. Very dodgy

        • @lindendwightt: It sucks, my pc is all ready, just waiting on the ram atm. It sucks cause I won't be able to get the free windows 10 upgrade as it ends tomorrow.

        • +1

@freebies8: man, i feel your pain :( boycotting the F out of pc byte

        • +1

@freebies8: eventually after contacting them and requesting a refund they decided to ship the item. Guess they actually did have stock. Wasnt as lucky with the ram i ordered though. Requested a refund on that. They agreed but haven't processed it. Now my build is in limbo because i don't have funds to order more ram. I've contacted ebay and notified them that they're taking orders for stock they're falsely claiming to have and they're going to look into it. I suggest you contact them too. Pc byte shouldn't be allowed to operate. Wish you all the best champ

        • +1

@lindendwightt: Thanks for the update, I'll be contacting eBay in the morning. I'll be buying my ram from CPL tomorrow as I cannot wait an unspecified amount for it, I emailed them several times and they were unable to provide a proper response to any of my questions. They responded with something a long the lines of "I am sorry that we are still waiting from our supplier and we will keep you updated" each time but they never addressed my questions so I requested to cancel my order as well. It sucks haha we've both got our build in limbo atm.

      • +2

Good luck with the refund. DO a search of Pc-byte and how they sell stuff they don't have stock of and then take weeks to refund the money. They are a POS to deal with.

        • Absolute scum to deal with. Notified ebay of thier shadyness

        • @lindendwightt:

I don't think ebay will do much, if anything, they care more about sellers, have heard they even remove bad feedback.

I almost bought a GPU from futu during the sale, but decided against it when I checked their non-ebay site and saw nothing in-stock.

        • @CH: i ordered my cpu from futu ebay and it arrived within 3 days. Was very happy with them. Ebay said they're opening a private investigation against pc byte. Hopefully if more people make direct complaints they might take it seriously. :/

        • +1

@lindendwightt: I ordered 6 parts from futu online, arrived the next day in Melbourne after dispatch from Sydney with each time individually packaged and placed into a large box with plenty of padding, very happy with Futu Online.

        • +1

          @lindendwightt:

i ordered a 6700K, Asus motherboard and 2 monitors from them. Get them within a week (Syd —> Melb)

Futu are ok but some issues with warranty. You need to post stuff back to them (they pay for it) and only afterwards will they ship another item. Its a hassle if you get a water damaged monitor (full of fungus in the box and behind the screen).

    • Yeah mine came up $592 on the 28 card…good deal :)

    • What sort of shipping did you use with Amazon?

      • Just the standard shipping (cheapest option)… Amazon gives you a tracking number as well so it's nice & easy to see where it's at :) Although the standard shipping does say it can take up to 2 weeks - but I have always got mine within a week..

        • Ok good to know.

  • the sad thing is that its still not at its RRPing :(

    • RRP is 379 USD right? 420usd isn't bad so we loose 100 bucks :p we're impatient. thats the cost ;)

      • RRP for stock cards…

    • Actually, the EVGA 1070 SC is retail at $439 according to the EVGA US website.

  • Gtx 1060 G1 Gaming shows as $349.00 for me

  • -2

I need an excuse to get a series 10 card so just wondering, will a gtx760 be better for dell ips artwork/photoshop etc than a gtx560?

  • GTX 1060 > 960 > 760 > 560.

    So short answer, yes

    • +2

      and gtx 1260 > 1160 > 1060, its simple math.

      • +1

But is that true for non gaming? Will 2 generations really make much of a difference for colours, etc?

        • +5

And I'll see your true colors
          Shining through…

        • +1

Not gonna do anything for colours. If you want proper colour support(10bit) you'll need a Quadro or FirePro. May work on Radeons haven't looked into it properly.

Photoshop does use OpenCL/GL for some operations though, so in theory it should be faster..but upgrading the 6000 series Radeon on my work pc to a faster FirePro didn't seem to do squat from my usage. YMMV.

        • @TheContact: Thanks for the first informative reply :D

  • So damn tempting.

But the case I really want, I really need to hang out for a mini 1070. Which only Gigabyte have announced and they aren't even selling the damn thing. Grr.

    Some damn nice deals here.

  • How are you guys getting them posted to Australia? I have a amazon.com account and when I go to checkout I get "Sorry, this item can't be shipped to your selected address" message on every item.

    • +3

make sure the seller is amazon not the other scalpers.

  • GTX 1070 + HTC VIVE on Supersamling 2.0 = OMG. Cant wait to build such a rig

  • When people say evga has international warranty, does that mean they allow you to ship back to a local repair centre? Because im pretty sure all brands have international warranty you just have to send it back to the repair centre in the country it came from.

    • +1

EVGA has an international warranty regardless of where you buy it from (as long as it's an authorized seller). I believe EVGA cards in Australia have to be sent back to Taiwan.

      • But then how is that any different from any other brand if you have to still send it back overseas?

I dont think any other brand will refuse to honor warranty just because you're shipping it to them from outside the region of origin? Or is that the whole idea?

        • +3

Other brands can refuse to return shipping outside the original sales area. Some do, some don't. They may also request you pay shipping both ways rather than one way. Either way it's cheaper to ship stuff back to Taiwan than it is to the US.

On top of this, EVGA have built their reputation on good customer service, compared to other brands like Asus and Gigabyte who basically don't anything to do with you once they have taken your money.

        • @Cobalt_: It's a shame the EVGA ACX3.0 looks crap (imo) and, something that actually matters, doesn't quite cool as well as the others.

5deg+ hotter at roughly the same dB than the G1 and Strix..

        • @TheContact:

I find that I don't really pay much attention to the aesthetics of the card once it's in the case. In fact my current case doesn't even have a window! Cooling and performance is quite important though.

        • +1

@Cobalt_: My case is glass, so admitedly I do somewhat. It's really just that little light up panel that urks me, which also happens to be the only part visible. Thermal performance was disappointing as the design looked decent, while the Strix was somehow the best and the die makes no contact with one of the heatpipes and barely touches another.

        • @TheContact:

Looks are a personal thing. I think it looks pretty sweet compared to my old EVGA 780 SC which was mostly plastic…

As for cooling it actually runs way cooler then the 780 did. Saying things like (- 5deg) is useless - aslong as it doesn't hit 80C it doesn't matter if its 71 or 66…

        • @chubbychicken: Oh definitely, I acknowledge that it's just my opinion, funnily enough, I prefer that plain jane look of the older cooler. Likewise I think the 1060 Gaming is the best looking in their current lineup. Metal instead of plastic would be nice though.

250W vs 180W TDP, it would be absolutely terrible if it didn't.
          EVGA ACX3.0 80C @ 39.9db;
          Gigabyte G1 73C @ 40.3dB;
          Asus Strix 72C @ 39.1dB;
          Zotac AMP 70C @ 39.4db.

          http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.php/artikel/hardware/grafik…
It's german, and only one review, but it's the only one I found that directly compared the cards in one go. Though it's not the only time I've heard that the card hit 79-80C.

    • +2

You need to ship back to Taiwan for EVGA card. Which I believe it is cheaper than ship it back to US.

  • Darn if i knew the evga ftw edition was only 30-40 bucks more i so would of got it instead of the normal sc card : (( owells still good

    • I vaguely recall reading from other people FTW edition only gives you extra 2-4 fps, so are you going to notice the difference?

      • Extra 2-4 fps over the life of your GFX card vs extra $32… seems worthwhile to me

        • pwetty rgb lights make me crazy

    • +3

The difference between the SC and the FTW cards is such a minor overclock, it's really tiny. You could easily bump it up to double that without even trying, manually.

      • +1

        FTW: For The Wnkr

get the cheaper one, the ozbargain way.

Mod has locked me out of editing the deal. Great. Just a note, I made one duplicate, the rest of the deals you are linking to are several weeks old and really should be marked as expired given that those deals ran out of stock ages ago and have recently been restocked.

    • That link says it doesn't ship to Australia or am i doing something wrong

Sold out now, check the deal post now. I can modify it again

        • Damnnn.. what a shame. Guess I will wait when they restock. Thanks though!

  • The way people worry about warranty makes it looks like these cards won't last 6 months…

You'll never know, there's always a bad egg to haunt you.

      • Never know a bad egg can haunt me, other than giving me diarrhoea :p

    • And what about those D.O.A cards? Not ideal, but if it happens to you, you damn sure want to know you can return it easily

Just like buying a car, do you prefer one with 1 year warranty or 5 year warranty?
It's not like the car will definitely break down on the 11th month, but still.

  • damn it, the gigabyte 1060 is out of stock :( really want a 1060 for my HTPC/lounge gaming box… i've got a 1070 in my main rig but a 1060 would do nicely for the lounge…

You can still add it to your cart and go through the purchase. Amazon will notify you when stock comes in and is ready to ship.

      • yeah i know… but i'd rather just order something in stock as i'm super impatient lol

    • 1060 for a HTPC? What for?? You'd be better off using home streaming through Steam, way overkill having a second gaming box.

      • its currently got a 670 in it… like i said its a HTPC/gaming box… yes streaming is an option obviously but due to the layout of my place everything is wireless (ac, but still) and i can tell the difference between playing directly on a system and playing via streaming… around $400 is acceptable for me
