  • i cant see it (even after installing Silverlight)

  • neither do i

  • I too couldn't locate it, until I did a search, came upon:
    http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/19983/LimitedTime-Offer-One-Mo…

"Gold for $1" is a limited-time offer Xbox Live users can see in the Spotlight channel. Microsoft is offering Xbox Live Silver members one month of Xbox Live Gold for $1. What's the catch? The Gold subscription will auto renew at regular monthly price, so basically Microsoft is almost giving one month for free."

Does that help clear up some confused people out there?

So, this means, you can only use it once, poof there goes any idea of stocking up on 2 years worth, and you'd likely be hit by a surprise $10.95 at the end of it, as that's the automatic monthly charge, for the next month.

    • if you subscribe and then call xbox to cancel automatic monthly renewal (before the month ends), your subscription will end you will not be charged for the next month.
(unless xbox has any other conditions in relation to this offer)

    • But there is still no link to this offer? At least not for me

The offer is shown when you turn on your xbox on the dashboard. its a good deal but you must make it clear that it will autorenew next month at a much higher cost ($10?) so beware in that sense.

Just to clarify, you have to sign in with an xbox live account with silver membership. Then go to the spotlight Tab.

note:when you create an online account you get a month free online one month gold membership. I think you can also opt to use it at a later date - but don't quote me on that.

So if you don't care so much about gamerscores or keeping record it might be cheaper to make a free online hotmail email account, then create a xbox live account using it.

only downside is some games require a fair bit of gameplay to unlock things for online play.

For those who want to cancel before the autopayment:

  • Is the only way to cancel the renewal to call up? A mate of mine showed this to me as he was on silver and used my card for the $1 but I'm positive he'll forget once it renews.

    • I THINK he can cancel autopayment online. But he can start the subscription again anytime because your CC info is stored on the system. Therefore you will need call MS together to "authorise" your friend to delete your CC from his account.

      • You can only cancel a credit card online IF you have more than one card and IF its not the active card.

If you only have one active card currently subscribed on XBL you HAVE to call MS Support and have it cancelled. YOu have to go through their song and dance too.

It sucks, I had to do it.

For those considering getting XBL, don't forget about www.gamecard.com.au . They email the code to you, XBL for $50 a year! Pretty sure they also do PayPal. Alot of people on xboxworld.com.au have used it, including myself, no issues.

        • I can vouch for gamecard.com.au, great price, perfect service. (not rep)

  • Just make sure you cancel autopayment before the expiry date. I suggest you do it right after you buy this because you will still get a full month even after you cancel.

Also, you may have trouble cancelling if you use another person's CC so try and use your own CC.

  • My bad, poor choice of words and the link is all but useless. Updated for at least some clarity.

    Cheers all.
