Nice find, feels a little lower than it usually is on the outlet?

The multiple inputs are great for consoles, the audio out is especially convenient.

    • feels a little lower than it usually is on the outlet?

Probably because they released the new U2417H not long ago.

    • There's another 2 listed for $229, so this is cheaper than the last listing

  • +1

Thanks to the OP for posting. Been looking to get my hands on a 2nd one of these, and this is a price that can't be passed up.

Only annoyance is the process you have to go through to order from their outlet. My first time, chat based seems like an inconvenience.

    • +1

Agree having to talk to someone in the Philippines so they can talk to someone in the warehouse and confirm your order is tedious. They should just put a shopping cart front end on it and save themselves the hassle.

  • Thanks! Missed out on the deal last time. Getting two.

I was tempted by the Dell UltraSharp U2412M as well, but I'll just stick with these.

  • Its very tempting.. I have one and have been thinking of a second one for a long time.

  • What are the uses of a second monitor if I am not really studying anymore and just working now.

Have 2 at work and is amazing but not sure if can justify 2 for home.

Using computer mostly for gaming at home and youtube etc.

    • +1

      Gaming while youtube/etc is open..

      Tri monitor setup at home:
      netflix | game | chat/web

      • -4

Not really a good idea without fast internet haha, but I alt tab and thats pretty fast which I kinda have to do anyway to reach the second screen whilst gaming in full screen.

        • That's why games offer borderless windowed "full screen" mode (or use linux/mac for even faster app switching)

    • You can put a slideshow of photos of your girlfriend on the second monitor while you game.

      • +1

There's only so much photos of Mrs Palmer available…

  • Sorry, I'm an idiot in terms of monitors but why would you get this over:
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/hp-25vx-25-…
    Cheers

    • I dont know anything about the HP,but…
      Things to look at

      Panel type, specs etc
      Quality of build
      Colour accuracy
      Stand (height,tilt,rotate,swivel)
      Inputs
      Warranty

Dell excels in a lot of those areas, of course you generally pay more though

    • Hard to tell without knowing the exact panel in the HP, but Dell Ultrasharps have better connectivity (2 HDMI, DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort), adjustable stands (tilt, swivel rotation), USB ports and VESA compatibility.

Dells are also generally considered pretty high quality in general, have a nice design, and have a warranty for dead pixels (though I'm not sure if that still applies to the outlet).

    • Screen specs look the same, but I'd go the Dell hands down for connectivity (DP is a must for me) and it has a much better stand and vesa compatibility.

      Connectivity for Dell:

      2 HDMI(MHL) connector
      1 Mini DisplayPort
      1 DisplayPort (version 1.2a)
      1 DisplayPort out (MST)
1 Audio Line out (connect your speakers)
4 USB 3.0 ports - Downstream (4 at the back, 1 with battery charging)
      1 USB 3.0 port - Upstream

      VS

      Connectivity for HP:

      Headphone/Speaker Ports (3.5mm Audio Out) 0
      Mic/Aux Ports (3.5mm Audio In) 0
      Number of DVI Ports 1
      Number of HDMI Ports 1
Number of USB 2.0 Ports N/A
Number of USB 3.0 Ports N/A
      Number of VGA Ports 1

    • the bezels on these are so incredibly thin, I'd say they're the best feature in terms of just looks alone.

    • +1

The most important thing is colour accuracy IMO. While the Dell has decent specs, it's not designed to be a gaming monitor, it's designed to look good and be high quality.

      • +1

Also, the Dell is designed to be reliable and last.

I've had 2x of these HP IPS monitors, and their service life was both <9mths. When you rely on your monitor for work, you don't want it to break down during the middle of a day.

Would never buy a HP monitor again as a result.

  • This or wait for 27 inch?
    Mainly casual gaming
    Thnx in advance :$

    • +1

Some people think 2" matters. Other say move the monitor a little closer and it looks the same.

So your question is psychological, rather than technical.

      • -2

Er, no… it's technical because the larger size exists physically lol.

        • A technical answer would mean talking about viewing angle, response time, resolution etc.

With a TV, the viewing distance tends to be fixed. You don't want to move the couch, so bigger is generally better.
Also, larger viewing distance is good for more seats watching.

In this case its more about feelings. A bigger screen feels better for games. Same as big speakers :-) Gaming with headphones just ain't the same.

        • @manic: Size is also a physical aspect, it's not psychological.

    • I have 3 x u2414h monitors for nvidia surround and absolutely love them, but if I was starting over I'd probably just get a single larger screen. Its a tough call because this really is an amazing monitor for the price. If you do pull the trigger I'm positive you will love it!
Edit: oops meant to reply to above comment!

      • Yeah, was thinking about just getting one of these Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor – U2715H
        when it goes on sale

        • 1440p might be overkill if it's just casual use. What do you define as 'casual gaming'? Solitaire? Less intensive games like LoL and DOTA, or indie titles? Or your typical AAA shooter? If it's the latter, you'll be wanting a better GPU that can push the extra pixels.

    • If it's 1080p, then the pixel density wouldn't be that great on a 27 inch monitor. You're better off getting it at 1440p or maybe a 24 inch 1080p.

  • I only have one HDMI output on my laptop. Can I daisy chain these together?

    • +4

Daisy-chain needs DP, not hdmi. For a second external monitor, you'd needs a USB video device.

      • ah alright. thanks

  • Thanks, missed out last time.

Buying through Dell chat was super bizarre … Why isn't all that just automated into a web form?

  • Hi, Op. can you please share how we order the monitor from the website? The online sales person was asking for a DFO number.

    • It's the number in the 'bundle #' column on the far left of the row. DFO-YMNWRAU

      • ah, found it.

        Thanks

  • My last Dell chat wanted me to commit to buying before going off to check for stock availability. Is this the norm?

    • +1

Mine was the opposite, said they had to check stock before I could order, and that it would take 1 hour to check the stock.

    • They do ask for name and address.
Then you get a formal quote sent with your name, which you need to formally accept or decline, and then give payment method. You can pay via web chat.

  • As i mentioned last time its extremely easy to overclock with custom timings. I did say 75hz but I checked again and I'm only at 72hz but still can't complain about the extra Fps. If you are going to use these for gaming I'd reccommend checking google for u2414 overclocking results. YMMV

  • What does "as new" mean? Old stock, returned stock?

    • +1

      Returns and cancelled orders typically.

      • Thanks.

    • +1

As far as I know (I have several purchases from dell outlet including "as new" and "refurbished") the as new were ordered but for whatever reason cancelled or finance wasn't received, you would receive a NEW product, but remember outlet only gives 1 year warranty as opposed to the 3 years you would get normally

      • Thanks for the info.

  • (profanity) me i was going to get a second monitor used but this is so tempting

  • Sold out…?

    • +2

not sure, but this chat is painful

    • Weird. I started a chat at about that time and they still had units.

  • Can I daisy chain 2 of these monitors using a macbook air with only a mini display port and 2 usb 3.0 ports?
I have check the graphic can handle 3 monitors "# of Displays Supported ‡ 3" from intel website.

    • +1

It depends on the year model of your MacBook Air. Daisy chaining apparently works with MacBook Air 2012 and newer. I have this monitor, a 2011 MacBook Air and bought a second monitor in an attempt to daisy chain but it only mirrors the desktop and does not extend the desktop with my 2011 unfortunately. Hopefully you have a 2012 or newer? I can't wait until next week to get a new MacBook Pro so I can daisy chain. I was almost going to buy a Mac Mini soley for daisy chaining but they will likely be discontinued or updated next week?

I forgot to add that you don't need to use usb ports for daisy chaining, you just connect the second monitor display port to the first monitor display port out, easy!

      • my macbook air is not too old, I think I got it last year or the year before, still going strong.
Missed out this time, I cannot wait for the next u2414h sale.
        Enjoy ur macbook pro!
        thanks man :)

  • +1

No longer showing on this model. Must be sold out. Obviously was very limited stock to begin with.

    • +2

The site originally said 50 units.

      • +1

I see. Sold out quick. A very good deal.

        • +1

just chatted to them. was still able to purchase one.

  • I've got the U2415 (16:10 version of this) which I've been quite happy with. Other than the fact that a bunch of games don't support 16:10 natively (first world problem). So for $211 I can finally get rid of pesky borders and other issues with not having 16:9 1080P.

Actually the other thing that shits me is the temporal dithering. But otherwise they're solid monitors.

  • It's a great price but I'm hesitant to buy it with 1 year warranty :/ . "Brand new" has 3 year advanced replacement

    • Brand new is almost twice the price through Dell. You could just buy a replacement in a year if this breaks and get another one.

I've had my 2007WFP for like 10 years with no issues. But of course these things can randomly break so that's no indication.

      • true, but if you buy from Futu during a 20% off you can get it for about $280, 2417 is about 320. Dead/bright pixels can show up anytime. Fortunately for me it took at least 5 years before bright pixels ever showed up on my 2407, and theyve fixed themselves but just luck i suppose

        • Yeah, I got my more expensive U2415 from one of those sales. Then got annoyed at the 16:10 thing for games (awesome for everything else). So now I forked out another $200 for one of these. Could have gotten better deals on other brands, but I've liked all the Dells I've used and have had shit experiences with other brands.

    • You might be able to extend the warranty, I was told it's possible for a Latitude. Not sure on the pricing, but if it's low it might be worth it.

  • I managed to snag one. my order says new. I'll wait and see whatI get.

    • +1

As New are orders that were either cancelled, or shipped out to a customer who either did not open the box or decided to return the order without ever using it. As new items do not have any cosmetic damages.

Refurbished items on the other hand have been used and then returned to Dell, put through the production process, and then again retested to ensure they meet all original factory specifications. Refurbished monitors may have some observable cosmetic blemishes, but they will not affect performance.

      • thx for the heads up

  • U2412M plllssss

  • -1

    No freesync

I recommend looking at the viewsonic or AOC monitors instead for gamers

  • Here's more on the way, 25 new & 9 refurbished.

DFO-YMNWRAU AS NEW Dell UltraSharp U2414H 23.8" Monitor 1 Year Midnight Grey None 25 $211

    DFO-YMNWRRAU REFURBISHED Dell UltraSharp U2414H 23.8" Monitor 1 Year Midnight Grey None 9 $189

  • -1

    sRGB of 96% no thanks.

    • They're $200. Not sure what you expect at this price point. It's already way better than pretty much any other monitor at this price range you can get.

      • Agreed, for the money it is great.

  • I don't like buying refurbished if you don't know the original problem with screens.
If it was just a power supply swap out then fine, but if it was screen issues it can be subjective.

    • Then get one of the "As New" one's for only $22 more as it's actually brand new unopened.

  • -2

Meh 24 inch monitors are too small. The 43 inch Philips monitors are much better, especially when you have two like myself.

    • +3

I don't like moving my head 180 degrees when using my monitor. But whatever works.

      • -1

So long as you are sitting more then 850mm away the average humans eyesight can see and process the entire screen.

    • +1

Feeling good about yourself now that we all know that you have a dual setup of 43" Philips monitors?

      • -1

86 inches of UHD glory, unlike the peasant 24 inches talked about here.

        • +1

Teh e-peen is strong with this one.

Pity it's inversely proportional to reality.

        • @CVonC:

Allows me to frag scrubs in BF1 with my sli Titan x gpus

  • So basically as new means it's actually brand new and unopened but they have to call it as new because it's a customer return who decided that they didn't want it although unopened. Sounds like $211 for what is essentially a brand new Dell 23.8" Ultrasharp monitor is a real bargain to me. That's worth paying the extra $22 over refurbished.

    • Pretty much this. I think it's a company order that was cancelled (for instance they wanted a different model). I don't think anyone knows for sure though.

  • +2

Created an account to warn fellow bargainers. Bought this U2414H last week. Nice monitor except for the display port issue. Using dual monitors at the moment but the U2414H have issues identifying the display port. And everytime I've restart the computer, I've to turn the monitor off and on again for the graphic card to detect the screen. I'm now having to use HDMI cable for the U2414H.

Seems to me I'm not the only person getting this issue.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2oe2sf/discussion…
    http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/35…

Long story short. Get it if you're using single screen. Avoid it if getting dual monitor setup.

    • Damn. That puts a damper on the 9 monitors I ordered to improve my K/D ratio in BF1.

    • I have had the same issue and can collaborate on this. I also have had to use HDMI.

  • -1

    So many monitor snobs…

  • Just ordered 2 as well, not bothered about the daisy chaining issue as will be just connecting them both directly anyway.
    Looking forward to receiving these.

  • +1

Snagged one thanks, great value!! I use 2 x 27" versions of this for work and they are great screens.

We use Display Port on these screens (about 30 dual screen setups on various systems) and can def confirm the issues people have been having. Whenever I can't get one to wake, I have been swapping the cable to Mini DP input on the monitor and so far I haven't had a repeat issue with one I have changed out for what it's worth.

    • Just bought two of these, thanks for the tip :)

  • Looks like they are all gone again…. the "As New " ones anyway, still a couple of refurbs there.

  • Just managed to nab myself an "As New". They aren't listed on the site, but I asked when in chat and turns out they still have both in stock.

  • They have closed for the day; everything goes on hold until Monday morning.

  • Managed to get one, all paid for at 211 all up. Invoice says 'New' - DFO (NEW) Dell UltraSharp U2414H 23.8" Monitor

    • I dont get it, the rep said to me that they're shut until Monday & that I have to wait till then!

      • +1

Had chat with the rep half an hour ago, he/she said "As of now we have none, Here is the link and this will keep refreshing and if we have any then it will be listed there"

        • 15 as new and 3 refurbs right now!

        • @CVonC: Yes just realized few seconds ago, chat with rep now

  • Ordered 2 on Friday, came today, Pretty bloody happy with them. Awesome deal

  • Very happy with mine, thanks for the post OP!
