Good Value TV Recommendations?

I'm looking to buy a budget/mid-range TV for my new man-cave, but thought I'd get people's opinions on good value TVs before committing to any particular brand.

I was considering getting this Aldi TV, but I suspect they've all sold out by now. However, the $700-800 mark is an ideal starting price range and I'm happy to get something a little smaller if it makes for a better TV, so any suggestions would be great!

  • Ok gonna piggy back off this thread to make a request too.

I'm looking for a 40' inch tv for the $500 range. My friend got a bauhn from aldi, and the screen looks great. Will that be the best brand for my price range?

    • What's the sound like on the Bauhn?

      • No idea. He got a surround sound system in his room.

        • I got the Bauhn surround sound…. was a waste of money.
Crap sound quality… stopped working after 17 months.

    • Hisense 40"(102cm) FHD LED LCD Smart TV $569

      • Has anyone seen the display for these? My cousin has a hi sense, but he's a 10 hours plane ride away.

  • Maybe something like this? Hisense 55"(139cm) UHD LED LCD Smart TV $1095

    Reviews seem pretty good.

  • We looked for a 40" tv. Saw the hisense, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony TVs at Jb hifi.

i really liked the Sony for the price, they were $300 off, coming in at about $700 but was 43" (too big for our space) and was relatively low tech, as it only had FHD.

Was a bit meh with the Samsung at $929.
Felt a bit iffy about the hisense in general, manufacturer warranty was more than the other manufacturers but picture was pretty decent. Was both UHD and smart tv.

However, I really wanted the Panasonic Viera. Came in at $998, UHD, SMART tv etc. Hoped and waited for a eBay good guys sale, got it for $790.40 + $12 or so cash back from cash rewards. It's still in the box, we're doing some work at home, so once that's done, we'll get it out.

  • If I just want a decent quality screen with HDMI ports and that last a long time, would it be okay just to go Kogan?

I'll end up plugging in my gaming console and Apple TV on it anyway, so I can't be bothered about all the smart features, and don't care about 4k either, no 4k content is available for me.
