      Unlimited Calls & Texts

      Huge Texts!

I would have given an upvote if you didn't follow up with the question. Humor is lost once you attempt to explain it.

        • +8

I doubt he'll be losing much sleep over it.

        • +1

          WoW!

        • -2

You officially failed.. And was subsequently down voted into obliviwow.

          (See what I did there)

          @ninjataki:

neg in the spirit of things…

  • Any Employee deals?

  • -4

    It's even allowed on planes!

    • +2

funny…..a lot of negs. I think some are a little butthurt

      • +1

All the Samsung fan boys are mad. Lol

  • Only $14/month for 2 yrs?

    • +2

      Savings of $14 a month.

      • Oh, I see.
        Thanks.

    • that is the difference between the current price and the previous price.

  • Samsung phones are devalued now?

      • +8

Wrong phone, you're talking about Galaxy Note 7.

        • +1

harkoliar are you trolling or do you really not know the difference between the note series and the normal s series samsung phones? samsung have been doing it this way since 2011 .. SMH

        • +3

          @irev1:
I mixed them up. That's obviously my bad.

I only saw the 7 in the end. Clearly need to go to bed now.

        • +2

@harkoliar: Whilst it was a simple error on your behalf, I'm going to guess that the general public (especially those who don't slavishly follow tech trends) will see Samsung and 7, and leap to conclusions. There are going to be some headaches for 7Edge owners in the next few months….

        • @awaiko: same problem is going to exist with the Airport Security as well, they see samsung galaxy s7 name, not allowed on plane anymore with the phone

    • -7

i would never buy a phone outright.

I found that samsung phones loose value very quickly, especially on trading forums like overclockers

      • Not even a cheap Xiaomi?

What about a new older model phone?

      • +3

Most non iPhones lose value fairly quickly, whether on overclockers or gumtree, eBay, ozbargain.

        • +1

          I know and it sucks

        • +4

@easternculture: lol that's why it's good to buy cheap phones like the Xiaomis that always pop up here.. Percentage wise you may still lose a similar amount, but in absolute dollars you're losing less.

        • +2

@easternculture: To be fair, S7 has held its price incredibly well through a year. S7 is still over $70+/mth everywhere else, probably except Virgin Mobile.

        • @motor89:

I'm referring to the resale value = outright price

      • +1

Same for all non iphones i think… Apple tightly control RRP unlike others where you can widely purchase new androids for significantly less than RRP. Then there is just how many suckers there are buying iphones… sold 2 near new for a pretty penny myself. Never ceases to amaze how much they will pay. Terrible Ozbargainers theyd make.

        • Why do you think they would make bad Ozbargainers? Im just wondering thanks. Its because, I've been looking at this iphone 6s opened from box but never been used, 128gb and he is asking $550. Do you think thats bargain? thank you.

      • Bought 2 HTC One (M7) phones outright and myself and partner are still using them today, great phones for the price we paid.

    • Short answer - Yes

  • im tempted but the thought of being locked in for 2 years…. what if I loose my phone or drop it in that time? hmmmm

    • -2

      First world problems..

    • +17

It'd be the same as losing your phone if not locked in for 2 years.

You'd still want a new phone and you've lost something worth $600 odd.

      • But wouldn't you be basically stuck with a debt to pay off monthly, for something you no longer have?

        • Makes no difference; in fact you're still probably better off that having bought it outright, due to the lower total cost (in theory) and the time value of money.

    • +2

      Ever heard of insurance?

    • Ever heard of a case?

      • -1

yes but if I loose a phone when not on contract at least i can stop paying my month to month credit and just wait till I recover my losses…. I am tempted by this deal but 24 months such a long time lol

        • Have you also heard of taking care?

        • -2

          @Bearosaurus:
no, is that kinda like taking risks or taking a long time in the shower?

    • +1

If u destroy $600 worth of value by losing it or smashing it u are losing the $600. It doesn't matter how it's financed, u have still done exactly the same thing.

    • +10

Local man distraught once told his joke didn't apply to this particular model. Samsung is in a stable being treated for schadenfreude.

  • +5

    Pretty good offer imo.

Its like purchasing the phone on installments at a fairly cheap price.

  • +1

    This is timely
    Just killed.my wife's beloved Nexus5(LG)
(Camping charged it and the bucket it was in had a few mils of water that went up the earphone jack)

She is on Amaysim unlimited 3GB and rarely uses that much data. $29 a month

This means 20 bucks more for phone that is (har har) water resistant and great camera for kids

Alternative was to get a well priced xaiomi ???

    Thoughts?

She isn't fussy and nor a big user but a nice camera is a big win.

    • +1

Probably Moto G4 would be alright.

      • Don't know them. Any price or site I can look a you would suggest?

Thx for quick reply. Wife NOT happy with me.

      • +1

Nowhere good as S7, though. Not even in the same league.

    • You would need to fork out $350+ even if you decide to go for a S7 equivalent Xiaomi. This is a considerably good deal.

    • +3

It's actually 30 bucks a month if you do the maths.
Never used Xiaomi but I'm using s7e now and I'm liking it except it sometimes overheats while using in a car.

      • +1

        Duh

    • +1

My thoughts are as follows. You're terrible at maths? Isn't it $30 per month more? That works out as increased outlays of $720 over the next two years.

      • +1

        2xDuh

Yes. That is 50% more than I thought as an outlay!

My kids would have a big laugh at my math…

        • Well you do have to add the cost of the Xiaomi to the price, which would be around $10-12 extra a month (240-300$/24) so the difference would be more like $20.

I made this exact decision recently and went for the S7 for the camera and don't regret it at all - the camera is amazing.

      • +1

        Good price.
Too big for my wife. We have 3 young boys.
Never time to sit and read!… More like fast camera to catch them mid flight

  • Website also says - Pick from the latest Samsung and OPPO handsets matched with a Woolworths Mobile Phone Plan at prices to suit all back pockets. And with our zero bill shock promise, you’ll only ever pay what you agree to pay upfront. Plus, each plan now comes with a Woolies Gift Card, up to a value of $100^.

So looks like there is also a gift card upto the value of $100

    Also -which network Woolies use?

    • Unfortunately no gift card with this deal.

    • Telstra, but they don't have a full access to Telstra network.

    • Telstra Wholesale which is much like Optus and Voda coverage.

  • I am on boost for $40/m for unlimited phone and sms and 5gb regular data. Woolies plan is $19 more for roughly the same data. $19 x 24 = $456, so that is a reasonable discount on the phone.

I imagine if you lose the phone you can use any phone as long as you use the sim?

    • If you don't need a phone but want more data, Telstra actually have the $40 mx plan, yes on a 12 month contract.

$1000 calls text 7gb data, 6 months free un metered Apple music.

      • I need a new phone, the S5 is just about dead. I also have no idea what $1000 of calls and sms look like. Mine is unlimited and I like it that way. I do a few interstate but no OS calls. For unlimited use of telstra network, $40 is pretty good through boost without contract. It also gives you up to 9GB as each weekend is a free 1GB, but I don't use that much at the moment.

My options are to see if the S7 is going to drop in price or go with this.

Can I test the network in my area? I have a telstra phone and sim so is it the same as 3G?

    • For $40/m I get the above plus 10gb of data plus 300 min international calls: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/268927. However, that is Optus and this is a Telstra network.

So I personally price the phone through Woolies at about $30 per month. Over 24 months that is $720. Which is the cost of buying outright.

Guess it depends how much you value the plan. Plus in a year's time you may be getting more bang for your buck out of plans.

      • +1

That's Optus. Woolies use the Telstra network and still it is an extra $20 per month, not $30 per month.

        • extra 6gb of data and international calls make up the extra $10

        • @coolhand: Not the same network and the international calls are included in the Woolies plan, too(if you ever need it)

  • +7

Smh people making jokes about the wrong phone.

    • -2

      deluded iFanboys.

  • Can I confirm Wollies is the telstra network? I am on Boost and other providers are not as good out my way.

    • Not exactly the same. Boost is owned by Telstra and they have a full access to the Telstra network. You are another option is Aldi which has the same level of access to the Telstra network as Woolies.

      • How do i tell the difference before I commit? I am in regional Vic.

        • Here is the coverage map of Woolworths Mobile. However, You'd better buy a $2 sim card and test the signal by yourself.

  • Which S7 is this memorywise?

    • It's the 32GB model.

  • Does woolworths have data packs you can purchase on top of this?

  • Virgin Mobile has the S7 for $60/mth 3GB or $65/mth 5GB. So the the Woolworths deal is comparable to whats already out there.

  • Maybe wrong place to ask but can you root and flash these these even while locked to Woolies? And will they unlock it for you at the end of two years?

    • They probably won't be locked at all so you should be able to do whatever you like to them. There isn't any real point in locking the phone itself when they got you locked into the plan anyway ( or force you to pay it out if you leave).

    • I am pretty sure it is already unlocked, but you'd better double-confirm with Woolies.

  • Great phone! I prefer the edge for bigger battery.

  • Telstra network is absolutely disappointing in Perth
slower than Vodafone at home and workplace.
4g is barely working, constantly on 3G.
Not using full Telstra network is a killer.
Think twice if you want to lock in a contract for 2 years

  • -4

Not really attractive, telstra prepaid $30/month gets just little bit less for the plan and you can buy $650 S7 on ebay, plus freedom for prepaid.

    • +4

You're telling me for $46 you're willing to go for a grey import from eBay over local aus stock?

      • +1

Also the S7 is made with two different processors and which one you get depends on which country you are in. Australia get the Exynos and the US and China get the Snapdragon. Although each has its strengths, based on the side by side comparisons I've seen on youtube, the Exynos is faster and your grey import is likely to be a Snapdragon.

If it wasn't for that I would have already bought a grey import but now I'm holding out for a good deal on local Aus stock.
