Where ALDI Special Buys Go to Die

Hi

Two questions.

Does Aldi scoop up all the left over special buys and ship them to a larger store? If so have you seen large piles of special buys from previous weeks at one store vs another (please include the state). EG https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/270156 - is that store more likely to have stock that didn't sell

How long does it take for Aldi to change full price to $5/$50 off and apply a red sticker?

Thanks

  • Thought they sell all since each store has limited stock any way. Also there are some really old electronics in the cabinet at the front of my local.

If the stock is lying around after it's promo period or way after the time the special buys was on, they reduce it to clear it out. Half price is always good.

  • I do suspect that they move old stock to certain stores, but maybe not necessarily a larger store.

My local store sold out of motorcycle gear but later I noticed that suddenly they had more jackets and pants on discount.

Whereas at another store I noticed they had a surplus of reduced camping gear.

But I honestly have no idea, maybe an Aldi employee can confirm.

  • I assume they just keep them out and reduce them until gone. Back when the 65 inch tvs were on special they didn't sell them all in Ballarat, I keep seeing one lonely TV sitting there waiting to be sold for like 3 weeks

  • McGrath's Hill (NSW), had like 10 of those really light touring bicycles marked down $50, adn plenty of motorcycle gear and Bauhn audio equipment. It's relatively far out of the way. And also relatively large store.

I'd assume a lot of stuff gets shipped there?

  • In my locals, I get a strong impression that a short period after the special buys are over, all the leftovers are put in the back. Only to be brought back out 6-8 weeks later. Head office sometimes marks down the prices and I've also seen store managers mark stuff down themselves - thus I've seen differing prices on clearance items from different stores.

    • Perhaps that is closer to reality. They shuffle their bins, ensure this weeks stuff is on display. Then as that stock takes less space, the previous stuff comes back out filling any gaps.

My local had the dishwashers and ovens on display, also the 4wd gear (some of it returns), lots of those mixing bowls and what not. No TVs or bicycles.

And there aren't any Aldi employees lurking here? I'm curious if Aldi is a good employer.

Speaking of bikes, one of my locals HAD 2 of those great value road bikes and they were on clearance for just $208!!!!! Almost 50% off from the original price. One box looked like a return, one box looked new, but slightly beat up.

  • Burwood Aldi (in Melbourne) tends to get a lot of the leftover stuff from other stores

  • Topryde Aldi always has a small cage of leftover special buys that are marked down..
Sometimes it's not good though, like when they sell complementary products in special buys, for example laminating machine and laminating pouches, they may run out of pouches or machines and the leftover special buys are just one product. Good if you can source the missing component from somewhere else though.

  • Colac Victoria or so i have been told ,apparently they have stock that's sold out in most other stores.Never been there myself though.

    • Nope, not true. Only a small store, small town, gets very limited quantities of everything.
Newish Waurn Ponds store in Geelong suburbs appears to hold a larger stock for longer.
