  • …these were $349 originally?

    • +2

      originally $399 the 29er was $349

      • …ooh. anyway to set this roady up as more of a cx/touring bike…?
or is it basically an entry level roady/commuter and thats all it can do?

  • Medium sold out :(

    • +1

sold out from yesterday i really doubt it they have been sitting there for over 1 month
the picture i took at 10:30 am did you physically go and check, do not believe what staff say on the phone,if you managed to talk to the store. Aldi staff tend to not care.

here is a link to a review of the road bike
      http://www.bicycles.net.au/2016/07/review-aldi-crane-road-bi…

    • Edit: asked the staff member and there were some bikes out the back, 4 left as at 9:15 for those interested

      • 4 bikes out the back that are M? Do you remember if it was red or blue? Have been chasing for a while obviously not dedicated enough :)

        • Didn't check the other bikes

    • -1

Just need to eat your veggies, mate.

  • if anyone can find out price on the mtb and sizing that would be appreciated…i cant seem to find a direct number to their store?

    • +1

aldi has no store numbers try the 1300 number and ask them to try and find out

      • cheers…ive tried before but ended up on hold forever

        • but ended up on hold forever

          literally….

    • The box says it suits riders 180-190cm. 3 left as at 9.20am

      • Any large bikes left?

Edit: Sorry just read the review and 180-190 is the large size

  • +5

There was a couple of these at Aldi Mt Kuring Gai the other day, marked down to $199

    No MTBs.

    • That's cheap!

    • Yes.. Aldi clearance prices and stock availability depends totally on the store.
$199 is the cheapest I've heard of for the road bike. Great value.

    • +3

Thanks jjcf! picked up the last one on Saturday for $199. That is amazing value for that bike for sure.

First time when this went on sale I went to the store but all were sold out during the first hour. Good that I missed it :) I love OB!

      • +2

you snagged yourself the bargain of the century!

        • +2

hahaha… thanks to OB and to @jjcf!

So far I have only done around 10Ks but I am really happy with the bike.

      • just picked one up this afternoon from ALDI Rydalmere.
Yon't won't believe how much they were selling it the Large for…

        $139.50

picked up the last one in Large

seems like more are coming back?
can't wait to see how much the MTB will be selling in a month or so.

        • Oh boy, aren't you a lucky one $139 :)

Same bike (pretty much/rebranded) is sold for $579 @bicyclesonline

        • That is just ridiculous, how can they even make money at that price. If the MTB drops down that low I will be pretty annoyed :. Though I haven't seen any more at the three stores I frequent.

        • @nubzy: they've already made enough, now they just need the floor space back.. 😂

  • +1

Bah! Checked Bayswater as I was driving past and no mark downs.. :(

  • Any stock at any other stores, that people know of? It is worth asking at stores as they do store old stock out the back.

  • How is it that MTBs have disc brakes while road bikes dont?

    • I think it's to do with the extra weight. Road bikes are all about being as light as possible.

    • +3

Road bikes generally don't need them, since they aren't riding through mud/dirt/grit and then stopping suddenly and sharply. So why carry the extra weight?

That said, they are becoming more common - especially on cyclocross/adventure/gravel type bikes.

  • Checked my local store (Maryborough) and they only had 2 mtb at $349ea.

  • Anyone in SA seen any MTBs in our stores?

  • +1

checked my local store near work (Rydalmere), and had the last mtb at $349.
will check others nearby and report back -> sharing is caring.

  • Sydney?

  • Someone on here posted that they got the 29er MTB for $250 at Aldi?? Can anyone confirm that?? Wouldn't make much sense to be selling at a $100 discount after only a few weeks, especially considering the quality components and glowing reviews, I thought they wouldn't be making much off it at $349?? I bought it for $349 the day it was put on sale and would be pretty pissed if it did drop $100.. but looking at comments here seems like it is still at $349.

    • +4

I wouldn't say they've gone to $250, most likely still at the original price because all other cycling related accessories were still at full price (pump, shorts, helmets, lights etc)

the special formulated bicycle WD40s were pretty much all gone, heaps of ordinary WD40s but.

The last MTB at Rydalmere is also gone. Don't know if someone snatched the last one since my post or ALDI removed them. Didn't see any at Macquarie, Top Ryde, Auburn, Eastwood, Chatswood, Meadowbank, Hornsby.

Yea, I try to contribute to OZB

      • Yeh, I couldn't find any of the bikes marked down.

I spoke to a staff member about it at one store and she said that if they have a heap of stock they'll mark it down, otherwise, the usual process is to clear it after 5 weeks.. Going to check back later on. ☺️

      • start checking now if you're still in for one!
I just picked one up this afternoon from ALDI Rydalmere for $139.50. It was the last one in Large and I guess I was just lucky.

Now i'm looking out for the MTB sales.

  • Looking for medium mtb if anyone has seen one in their local. From the reviews, $350 is still a great price.

  • If anybody is picking up one of these road bikes at Dandenong (or see one in any Aldi store in Melbourne) could they please let me know if they see any remaining stock as I'm looking to get another bike, thanks!

  • I picked up one from St Kilda for $279 reduced from $349

  • FYI - 29er MTB has been marked down across all stores by the looks of it - $299, if you can find stock.

    • dont bother …called up customer service & no stock anywhere in victoria unfortunately.
she couldnt say when the next bike related special sales would be either…

      • +1

Nah, they don't know jack about stock! I'd previously seen 3 stores with stock when this deal was posted and that was after I'd rung them to check…

I know for a fact that Bayswater (VIC) has 2x large MTBs and 1 road bike (not marked down)..

        • ..damn. i'll take your word for it…pity i cant be assed driving the 40 minutes out there :P

        • +1

@franco cozzo: Dandenong still has 2 large road bikes at $299 and 3 29er mtb at $349

        • @drwau: thanks for the headsup…the aldi store at the market?

        • @drwau: …thanks drwau. your constant posting & updates got me off my ass and down to dangas today and managed to pickup a roady for $244 @ the plaza aldi ..

        • @franco cozzo:
Do u live close by to the store? I'm North Melbourne without car, needing a size medium road bike. Don't want to get train all way down to be none left.

        • @shonofear: why dont you call the store direct and pay for it with CC before going down, that way its yours and on hold for you to collect?

see my post below for details on stock levels…i can almost guarantee you theyll have medium in stock if you move fairly quickly…ie in the next couple days
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4166409/redir

        • @franco cozzo: thanks but, was closed after reading your comment. is that even possible over the phone? still trying to decide if i do a big train day trip tomorrow. theres a bike store close by that was thinking could put it together for me etc then ride home.. long shot though.

        • @shonofear: not sure whether you can but might be worth trying…i went down there first found it paid for it then went got the car from home. its a pretty amazing deal at $244 (about the equivalent of $700+ entry level roadbike)…if you need it go for it, there will be stock and possibly there were 3x mediums…im pretty sure there were actually

in regards to assembly…a bike shop might be able to do it if theyre not busy but theres a few things to do to get it riding…unpack, fit handlebars, install front wheel & inflate tyres, brakes & gearing adjusts, pedals fitted, seat & post fit and adjust etc…

        • @franco cozzo: mmm. how big is the box and would it be super awkward travelling on a train with it if dont get it assembled. thanks for for thoughts and help

        • @shonofear: ~10 kg , about 1.5m long x 1 metre high
easy to carry for short distances…ie. couple hundred metres, after that get a taxi…. :P
has handles cut in either side for easy transport….should be fine on a train (its a bike… were allowed!) just use the end of the carriage and make sure its not busy time ;)

        • @franco cozzo: Cheers. Managed to borrow flat mates car, mediums niw all gone. Now to put together

    • I think it must be individual store mark downs because another comment below says still $349. I would return mine and buy another if I saw it for $299, but I frequent 3 different Aldi stores and haven't seen any bikes at any of them since the day they were put on sale. They had some very strong interest in them it seems. Damn good bike, I have been using mine a lot. They were a bargain at $349 and a steal at $299.

  • +2

UPDATE Dandenong store still has 2 road bikes large frame at $299 and now they have 1 29er MTB large frame for $299
the Aldi store at the market

    • Any still left?

      • go and look they where their the day i posted

      • +1

start checking now again if I was you
I just picked one up this afternoon from ALDI Rydalmere for $139.50. It was the last one though, just clearing out old stock me thinks

Now i'm looking out for the MTB sales.

    • +2

Thanks heaps for posting this, drove down and grabbed a medium roadbike this afternoon. Fantastic. Family member is going to be very happy this Christmas!

      • +1

        great…!
i thought i'd return the favour and make sure others knew as well. pretty great finding both the roadbikes and mtbs across both stores….glad i bothered to go and check the plaza aldi otherwise would have missed out on a great deal. $244 is SO cheap considering the original RRP and actual quality of the setup

        • Great deal franco never been into the plaza aldi many years of great riding. glad i could help you out and spur you on to go and look

        • @drwau: after all that…had to return it and get a replacement as the front big ring was bent/damaged and causing the chain to rub across the front mech…gah! luckily ive just unboxed this one and it appears to be good….actually this ones really well put together…im getting all gears straight away with minimal adjustments at either mech…now to get onto brakes, bike fit, stem height, pedals, etc etc etc :P

      • hey, since you were probably there last, how many mediums were left?

        • Sure, I am pretty sure there was only one medium (blue) left after I took one. (there may have been a second but not 100% sure sorry). I wanted a red one but actually couldn't see any in the medium, only the blue colour. Bit hazy cos my car broke down in the carpark when I was trying to leave :( edit: this was about 1pm today.

        • +1

@17833: thanks mate, sorry to hear about car breaking down. Got 2nd last one at 9.30am then another bloke got the last medium, still a few Large left.

  • update…only 1x LARGE roadbike left on the shelf @ dandenong plaza MEDIUM is out of stock. looks like we cleaned them out… :D

  • these are all about gone now…as @ 11:30 14.11.2016

1x LARGE ROADBIKE at dandy plaza
    1x LARGE 29" MTB at dandy market….

also check your bikes properly people…take time to assemble and check all components or get an lbs to do it for you

first roadbike i grabbed had a bent/deformed large front chainring….(terrible chain line & chain rub through most gears)returned it…
second bike had a loose headset/fork that needed adjusting and the front wheel was badly out of true…(so much so i returned the wheel for the one i originally had on bike #1) pain in the ass but thats what happens when you buy a bike out of a box i guess…now after 2 days faff i almost have a bike ready for a test ride :P

    • They are also the last stock, so possibly already been returned and put back on the floor.. 😐

      • +1

yeh nah…both of my boxes were unopened. one however had a nice big ding in one of its corners (as had some of the others in the same stack) definitely the reason the wheel was out of true by a good 2-3mm with a distinctive kick that looks like it had been hit from the side in transit. so maybe one of the pallets they dropped or knocked into something? …who knows? :P

the first bikes deformed front chain ring was identical to the one posted over in the bna thread and that was in july this year
        http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=90772&…

so its a recurring issue in regards to QC and build quality & maybe the way they are packed/transported…the components are generally of a decent standard but its up to whoever assembled the bike to make sure parts are fitted correctly and they work as intended and arent damaged during installation (for example over or under torquing bolts to specified required amounts)….also whether the bike makes it to the store undamaged in transit is another

…argh. the perils of buying a bike in a box that you cant see till you get home :P

  • well my first ride to work ended with 6 stitches !!!
luckily the bike only got a few minor scratches.
long story short, was caged in, fell over, right leg came out, sliced leg open on big crank (wish chain was on it), hospital, stitches, tetnis shot in leg which has made leg unusable after 4 days and counting (worst needle I've ever experienced)
could of been worse had it got back of leg, so can take some positive from it.
i had no idea those cage pedals are the worst/dangerous, clipins would of saved me
live n learn the hard way

    • Ouch :( sorry to hear mate. I have the 29er MTB and worry about injuring myself every time I ride it on anything more than a bike path. The scariest thing for me is putting my leg down or coming across an obstacle and having the pedals dig in and take a gouge out of my leg. Had a bad experience with a bike when I was a kid but have to say I am really enjoying getting out there on the 29er now. Just have to be very careful, and no road riding for me.

  • Does anyone know of any stores in Sydney that still have the road bikes in stock? I checked two stores (Lakemba, Chullora) but no luck.
