If you want to keep your number you have to port away first.

    • just buy one then once finished through checkout buy another one. I needed two, thats what I did, have two separate invoices now so unless they cancel one order I should be getting two envelopes sent from them

  • +2

I already have a couple Kogan SIM cards, not activated yet.
Can I just activate on this deal?

    • +4

      Yes

    • +2

Same I got a few of those $0 kogan SIM cards from the last deal

  • Thnx

  • Usually when I recharge $30 with optus, I am allowed some credit that I can use to make purchases online (buy games). Would this be the case for this type of plan?

    • No

    • What do you use your credit on? Mine expires every cycle and I don't use it.

    • Google Store credit on Optus? Thought that's only for Telstra prepaid.

      Interesting.

  • Awesome. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Thanks for sharing the deal OP
Can I buy a medium recharge now and change it to small after 30 days?

    • +1

      Yes, just turn off auto-recharge

      • +1

        Thanks

        • +2

No worries :) After your current plan expires you have the option to choose any of the other plans, as well as the length of those plans e.g 30 days, 90 days or 365 days

      • Cheers ;)

    • +3

  • how long does this promo go for?

    • Activate your SIM by 11.59pm 14 Nov

  • +3

I knew the sims I ordered for $0.05 would do me good some day …

    • +2

There is a time I got it for free (which is on going atm)

  • Can we use kogan sim in locked phones like Vodafone Nokia lumia kind of.

    • Provided that your device is not locked to another network besides Vodafone, most smartphones and tablets will work perfectly on Kogan Mobile.

      Kogan says you can

  • -4

meh, their plans arnt cheaper after the first month than OVO so no point changing hassle for so little.

  • +1

So I am on Voda at the moment, have a bunch of 5 day / $1 SIMs for Optus I got from 7/11. Before I switch to Kogan, should I use another Optus SIM in between, because I have had porting issues going Optus to Optus, wondering if it is the same Voda to Voda….

Also one negative on this deal is that you should expect Kogan email spam.

    • +1

I just went Voda to Voda today in less than 5 minutes.

      • Can I ask which companies specifically?
Eg. I was previously with Think mobile (Vodafone) if I were to port straight over to Kogan (Vodafone) from think, I was wondering whether there would be a delay or if it would quick like you've stated.

P.S I ended up going from Think -> Telstra $2 sim -> Kogan, but I'd still be interested in your response.
        In my recent experience:
Think -> Telstra can't say how long the port took, because I activated the Porting online at 12am (midnight, and possible after work hours) but it was completed when I woke up the Next morning (9:30am)
Telstra -> Kogan took literally 15mins to port just then :)

        • +1

I went Vodafone (Vodafone) to Kogan (Vodafone).

I've gone Optus -> Optus in the past and there was a very long delay with that one, but they did stuff something up and it took a week to resolve.

  • +1

Kogan is shit but this would be useful for those who don't have net at where they live atm. So while I hate Kogan with a passion and Kogan is shit. I'm +1

  • Hey do these 3rd party Telstra based providers support Visual Voicemail bank on iPhones? Ie. where the voicemail box becomes integrated into the phones as opposed to the old fashioned dial into voicemail and clunk through options…

    • Kogan uses the Vodafone network. (a few years back the old Kogan used Telstra, before it closed when their wholesaler/intermediary went broke).

I don't think that here any aussie mobile companies that currently support visual voicemail on a prepaid android service. I look every few years because I would like to try it, it has been this way since at least 2010. I just googled, and this is what I found for the 3 main carriers :
Telstra don't support visual voicemail on prepaid services.
Vodafone don't support visual voicemail on Android services.
Optus don't support visual voicemail at all.
And I'm assuming most or all of the MNVOs just inherit the capacities of their network.

I.e if you're an Android user on a prepaid service like me, they it's a no. But since you've got an iPhone, you might have a shot on Kogan, given that it's on the Vodafone network.

      • +1

Thanks. I was a direct Vodafone customer years ago and the visual voicemail worked out of the box on iPhone. Since going with 3rd party Optus I've missed it greatly. Somewhat baffling this isn't a standard in 2016 with the proliferation of smartphones.

        • Haha, I have been an iPhone+Vodafone user the past few years now, so I have been taking for granted the voicemail system.. Well at least you made me aware now with your post, I cringe when trying to remember what a pain it was to call out for voicemail as I once did in the old days… :p

  • Joined, pretty cheap at least for a month! thanks OP.

  • +2

4G LTE is crazy good on their (VF) network. I get routinely 100Mbps down in speed tests. Its faster than "NBN" (FTTN) yo!

    • +1

      Yeah I know right?

Vodafone is the best where I live.

That said I'll take Optus/Woolies only because I have a stack of their $30 starter kits.

  • Hi Guys,

    Currently with Coles Mobile.

Does anyone know if I can port out to Kogan, use it for 30 days, and port back to Coles Mobile using my ORIGINAL SIM?

Or will I need to buy another $2 Coles Sim?

    • +1

Another $2 coles sim would be required

    • +2

Once you port out of any carrier your old SIM is rubbish, and cannot be reused.

      • Thanks. Appreciate it.

  • -1

Going to oz in November after expiry, can't activate this online right. Need a physical address and the sim card to work?

    • +1

Not unless someone activates it for you.

  • So this is valid only for the first month? upon the next recharge i'll have to pay for the standard rate?

    • +1

      Find another special next month.

  • Thanks ordered two, limited two per customer.

  • +1

Thanks, OP. That's October taken care of:)

  • -1

"Discount does not apply to subsequent recharges."

So… this is for 30 days only, right?

EDIT - Already been asked. Ignore this post.

  • kogan's system cant find my address…

    • Make sure you use capitals for the suburb and what not….ridiculous but thats what I just went through.

  • Can Kogan Mobile SIM packs be bought from stores?

    • No

    • +1

No, online and its free. What's the hassle?

      • I wanted it for the weekend. I purchased on Wednesday but hasn't arrived yet. I knew I was stretching it but… It would be good if there was a store where I could get one.

        • Yeah it took a bit longer than I expected, I ordered my sims on Monday, and only just got them today, Friday.
I'm currently in Sydney, Envelope states it's shipped from Melbourne.

  • So, if I'm moving to Kogan, should I go on 30 days or 90 days or 365 days?

365 seems like the best value.

Is there a downside I'm not seeing?

    • +3

If you decide to leave then you forfeit your credit (a bit like contract plans).

Use the first 30 days ($4.90) to make sure you're happy with Kogan/Vodafone before making any subsequent longer recharges.

  • Thanks Ozzapo for posting! Finally after months of procrastinating I broke out of my $45/mth below par plan haha.
I just received my sims today and have just finished porting over, i am just wondering if on 13th November (just before the promo ends) I can port out, and then port back in to this (with a different sim of course) and take advantage of the $4.90 promo, for 30 days from then. I know this will be not utilising my full 30 days which I am currently on (will be cancelling it prematurely) but for only another $5 for this deal it's well worth it for me.
Hope you/someone can understand what I'm asking? Thanks in advanced , and I know something similar has been mentioned in the comments, but not clear enough for me and would like to get another's opinion if this would work? :)
    Cheers

  • The sim has arrived but I have not got the code to active it to entitle the $4.90 for 30 days. What to do?

    • +1

No need for a code, just activate.

    • +1

When you activate it online, there will be a page near the end to select the plan you want.
Select the ones with "promo" instead of a cash amount, their the ones your after.
It will then tell you it costs 4.90

  • Thanks OP, dam cheap 12gigs…..but that was THE most painful register Ive ever encountered, just awful…..but 12 gigs for 5 bucks Id do it all again ;P

  • Thanks a lot

  • Good deal, but the Vodafone network sux! THere's no coverage where I live! But Vodafone reckon I should be able to get 4G where I am… WHat a jip! I looked for their mobile towers and they are 6kms away! None where the Testra/Optus ones are.. ugh… painful.

  • Beware of Kogan mobile network ,

just wanted to update the fellow ozbargainers ,

had a painful experience now ..when i ported my number from voda to kogan yesterday .i did select the plan (4.90$ for 12 GB ) and even paid using my credit card ..there was no confirmation email (this is the catch ) ..it took one day to get the number ported..when the number ported , i dont see the plan active when i contacted the stupid customer care ..i was told that payment unsuccessful..even checked my credit card statement..dont see any transaction registered..after one day , got message from them to recharge ,after two hours number went inactive..(something smelly ) ..got to recharge (paid full since i am not a new customer since my number is already active) and then within 20 minutes ,my number is active..please dont even try to port to KOGAN…

  • I ported from Telstra today (Saturday) and got my discount first recharge just fine.

    Thanks OP.

  • Anyone else having an issue selecting the expiry date for POI not showing correctly?

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/121534/43562/kogan.png

  • Hey all, I want to register two of these, to replace my two existing active Optus SIMs. Does anyone know what constitutes a new customer. Is it address or e-mail address or driving licence?

I'm wondering if I get stuck as a known customer after I register the first SIM.

    Ta… Great deal!

  • OK, I signed up to Kogan Mobile.

Who else is having problems with the internet?

    • only issue I'm having is a blackspot at work. Where I sat the last 2 days, absolutely no service at all. Walk away and service. Sucks. Looks for a new desk next week.

    • OK for me, (Kogan)VF signal is weaker where I am than Optus, but LTE is working. I've had VF SIMs in this phone before and had better 4G speeds in the same locations so suspecting the Kogan service is derated from VF direct.

      • +1

I got quite reasonable speeds with it on a generic zte phone. What struck me odd was the biller on the statement was Vodafone and not kogan.

        • +1

I noticed that too. they must have some sort of agreement with Vodafone to use their billing technology.

        • Got a generic ZTE phone and the speeds are amazing as well.

  • Am I able to use this service with a 3G/4G USB or PCMCIA laptop cellular modem to utilise the data allowance? E.g. activate the SIM and therefore the phone number in a mobile device, then insert the SIM into the cellular modem, connect with Kogan APN and use for data only?

  • Any word if extended ?

  • +1

The $4.90 offer is not extended. It will be indicated that it is extended if the expiration date has been changed.
    Jak Dac
When may that happen last day ?
    Gail
We are unable to confirm if it will be extended.

  • Word of warning - to complete the activation you will need to keep your packaging or at least write down the phone number from it. The registration process requires both the sim number and the mobile number (at least for new number activations).

  • I potting my existing number to Kogan yesterday morning. I just wondering why until now my Kogan sim still indicated no network when put into mobile phone?

From my understanding ,usually the new sim is activated immediately, ready to use and porting will happen after.

Is this normal for Kogan mobile?

    • Not normal, seek help.

    • I am having the same problem. Is there a number I can call them?

    • My Kogan SIM card still has no signal. aiyoyo did you manage to port yours?

  • takes a while, ported today from optus.. switched off/on then working now

    $4.90 this month
then do the other 365 deal..

  • Tried to activate for the 1st month and the $4.9 deal seems no longer available now. Isn't it valid till 11:59pm?

    • +1

While setting up the sim select "extra large - 30 days". The price is still at $4.90 as off 5 mins ago. The price doesn't show till you pick the option.

      • nice one. was about to bail out from porting into kogan until i read your tip. thanks!

  • -1

    What a (profanity) joke.

I clicked on the 4.90 promo and ordered a SIM card. My SIM card arrived, tried to activate it, no option to take advantage of the promo. Apparently it doesn't matter when you ordered the SIM card, you needed to receive and activate the SIM card before the cut off date.

So even though they were advertising the promo right up until the 14th, anyone who ordered on the 14th couldn't have possibly taken advantage of the promo. Hell I ordered on like the 7th and my SIM card arrived after the cut off.

Dodgy (profanity) practices if you ask me!

    • Hey mate, call them i just managed to get them to honor the deal!, they did ask for proof of order time and dispatch time.

      • I contacted their support via the web form. And they told me there was no way it could be extended.

I told them that's bullshit and that i'd be tossing the sim in the garbage. (profanity) that shady shit.

        • You ask them incorrectly!, Don't ask for extended the offer ask for them to honor the deal as you ordered before the 14th and the cards arrived only now.
