GVA 42" FHD LED LCD TV $238.40 (Was $399) @ The Good Guys eBay (Click 'n Collect)

1560
CGOOD20

A number of TVs from '20% off The Good Guys eBay' deal have been posted on OzBargain in last few days, but this gem was missing (such a big miss for budget buyers like me). $238.40 is a great price for any brand new 40"+ TV with one year warranty in my opinion. Any positive or negative reviews are welcome but irrespective of it, I believe that the TV must be well worth this price at the least, if not more.

Features highlights: PVR Recording via USB. 3 x HDMI & 1 USB Inputs. 1920 x 1080 Full High Definition.

And, to my surprise, the screen 1" bigger drastically becomes $100 dearer, not sure why. Check 43" model. It makes this deal even more lucrative and convincing.

Don't forget to claim Cash rewards on eBay purchase

If you have any valid $25 voucher from this deal, use it to buy an extended replacement warranty for 3 years costing $68 (i.e. $43 after using voucher), when you go for pick up. Please note that the warranty comes with $180 of TGG vouchers ($20 every 4 months to be used within 4 days with no min purchase limit). It's worth it even if you end up using only some of these vouchers! - Unfortunately I got this info only when I went for pick up, so I couldn't add it here earlier. However, I have tried to update everyone in reply whoever has mentioned comments that they ordered the TV. I hope it helps some! I apologize if this reply/message to several people appears like a spam. I assure it's not - it's mere an effort to pass on this useful info to mates before deal ends or pick up happens. :)

Also, credit to Elijah who posted it here along with other TGG deals but looks like it went unnoticed.

might need to buy a 7 seater SUV 4x4 .
also handy if you ever go camping once every 8 years

Fits in the back seat of a new corolla hatch no probs, so you'll be fine!

    • The box fit in the boot of my forester nicely

    • I have updated the deal post - check the last paragraph. Just in case if it helps.

  • Is GVA a very new brand? If not, why don't some existing owners switch off their GVA for a minute and post some reviews here (at least as to how long they have been using it successfully)? I am sure TGG must have sold hundreds of this in last 5 years. :-)

Bought one last night, thanks! To those that have opened theirs already - did it come with a wall mount? If not, gonna have to look into getting one

42" Soniqs have been cheaper with 18mths (refurb) warranty! But this is the best price I've seen lately.

This deal may tempt me to at long last the 14" tube TV in the bedroom I use occasionally (size also may be a bit big for the bedroom but at that price it is hard to get 32" Full HD, let alone 40" Full HD). Just feel guilty throwing out the 18 year tube TV that still works perfectly.

Regarding GVA, I don't know about their TVs (although when I checked a 32" GVA model in store a while ago, the picture was good although the darker colours didn't look as good as the more expensive model but apart from that there was nothing drastically wrong with the overall picture quality), but we purchased a GVA vacuum stick a year ago, and it still works fine and its performance is quite adequate compared to vacuum sticks which cost 2-4 times as much.

  • the darker colours is the Achilles heel of this tv, i have one and using it as a pc monitor is a pain, videos will appear completely black in certain parts if its slightly darker. anything in dark will appear black if the brightness isnt up, which will blind you if you use as pc

I was buying a tv at the good guys, the salesman said not to buy a GVA (Good guys own brand) because they get a ridiculous number of returns compared to w any other brand. We got a TCL instead which has been flawless.

    • When did you buy?

Going to pick it up later today.
    I'll post opinion tonight.

    • We will wait for it.

It's tuning right now. A few things to do,I'll get back to testing it out later.

      Man it's light.

      • +9

Well a headache slowed me and I've been asleep.

For the price so far I'm very happy with it. Been a few years since I bought a tv and this one is just a replacement for my old 32" bedroom tv. My main tv is a 60" FHD plasma.

First up, it's a good looking tv by itself away from a shop where it was surrounded by slightly better looking more expensive tellys. Nice thin bezels which I'm a huge fan of. It is remarkably lightweight, and I'm looking forward to wall mounting it but I'll need a bigger mount compared to what I'm currently using.
Inputs and outputs seem well laid out for my needs. The 3 HDMI inputs are more than I need but I wish my main tv had that many.
The remote is pretty nice looking though poorly labelled really. Not hard to figure out but not that intuitive. Response seems ok but does seem pretty dependent on pointing it properly. I like the tactility of it, a little clicky.
The legs are metal painted/coated black. Feels very solid on its mounts- certainly a lot better than any other tv I've owned before with the single centre mount although the fact it's so light helps.
The menu system is a bit confusing… scrolling around left and right as far as I can tell rather than one big menu with individual selections but I only had a quick play with that. The tv it's replacing is another cheap Voxson which I only mention because the OSD and fonts are the same on this tv. Obviously the same generic menu probably made by the same generic company.
I've only tested the picture with YouTube and Netflix through chromecast on (F?)HD settings. Watching The Blacklist I soon forgot about focussing on the picture and was concentrating on the show… a sign to me that there is nothing bad that distracts you from the entertainment. Pictures are crisp and pretty good colour reproduction, very happy with the blacks especially- although night time viewing in the dark will be the final factor on how well that goes. I'm hoping for no/little light bleed like my old tv suffers.
The sound is pretty rubbish, but I think acceptable for a bedroom or as a secondary tv in a games room or other smallish room. Bit tinny with no bass to speak of. No concern to me as I'll be using my headphones and/or Logitech z623 speakers with it.
I should mention that the power cable is fixed to the tv. Not detachable. Disappointed in that. Same problem with my old 32". I much prefer being able to use my own power cable because then I can choose the length required. Keep this in mind if you might require a longer cord and want to avoid an extension.
Overall I'm very happy tonight. Being optimistic that it doesn't throw up reliability issues any time soon, and after just a short time using it, I'd recommend. It really is hard not to for just $240. I was budgeting about $400 for a ~40" cheap tv so this smashes that criteria.
Hope that's of some use to someone. With less than an hour viewing time so far, I couldn't be held to account if issues do arise lol.

        • +1

Pure black screen in a dark room isn't fantastic (say Netflix loading screen) but it's not a drama any other time after a few hours of watching. I wouldn't be doing a lot of work on DOS though lol
Light bleed is a lot better than my old telly.

I was thinking about buying this then I realized it isn't good enough to replace my main tv which is a 40" Samsung LCD from 10 years ago. Pretty much same specs and ports (without PVR via usb).

    But that price….

    • May be for another room?

      • +1

But then I have kinda equal TV's.. You need hierarchy when it comes to TV's! ;)

        • Love ya'r logic! :)

  • Good guys quoting $149 to wall mount,is this about average? Thinking if I get them to do should not have issues if any problems..also can anyone recommend a wall bracket?

    • Might be best to take the time to do it yourself so you know it is done right?

      • Probably more chance of it falling off the wall if I did it! I'm a bit diy challenged..

    • for $149 you would want the mount included. in that price it would have a warranty on install, and if they run cables behind plaster it makes it a bit more worthwhile\

      • Includes cables behind wall but not bracket, did a quick google but don't see prices - thought I'd ask the question here rather than possibly wasting time phoning around.

  • Can u stack the Groupon $100 voucher that's $85?

You don't even get a reasonable phone for that price, $238 is worth one year of use!

    • You don't have to even worry after one year for a small extra cost. I have updated the deal post - check the last paragraph. Just in case if it helps.

  • +4

Purchased last night and upvote and it went to main page! haha
Today I picked it up and using in my bedroom for general purpose (videos, internet, playing fifa etc) ..
For 238 bucks,,, I am actually more than satisfied with this product..
For those who have picture problem, just return it and get a new one.. because I tested with variety of things and did not have any picture or motion issues..Works really well..
Using as monitor isnt bed as long as you dont do like serious work.. haha

    Thanks OP

got one and set it up, very light, at least much lighter than i expected. fit in my small car (little SUV) with no problem.
the response (remote) was quicker than my old plasma and LCD tv. i'd say it's worth my $238 and change, i am more than satisfied.
hopefully it would last a few years.

        • +1

Got it today. from this post. Cheers op. No issues, nice picture, nice small bezels. Great for the price!

        • @wosdam: People complain about remote. Is it too bad?

  • Thanks a lot guys. What is the ordering policy? I want to go down to a store (which has stock) to have a look before I buy. Can I order it on ebay for pick up tonight, get to the store tomorrow. If I like it, I will just pick it up. If not, I can just leave it with refund?

    • Sure, why not! Order it and pick it up only if you like it or return it then and there.

  • Will this TV fit into a medium sized sedan?

Is there really any need to copy paste the same post 20+ times? Anyone subscribed will get it the first time. Anyone not subscribed won't see your spammed replies.

        • +1

Everyone doesn't have a habit of checking every new message posted on the deal page. But, when they receive a reply to their comment, they receive a notification and I believe it helps.

        • @virhlpool:
Pretty sure it defaults to send the email with the post if subscribed. If not subscribed posting it any number of times is pointless.

        • @Shonky: Email? I don't receive any email ever for notification. I receive a notification here on this website and only when someone responds to my comment.

        • @virhlpool:
If that's how you've set it up, fine. My comment stands: I don't see value in adding the same comment 20+ times.

  • I saw 200+ TVs sold on TGG eBay in last 24 hrs. TGG should be thankful to OzBargainers.
