Monitor for gaming

Hi all,

Looking for some tips.
I am looking to buy a monitor for my PS4 and some occasional work. I am looking for somehtign aorund the $250 price mark
I was considering this one
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/270149.

The reason i have not pulled the trigger is because I am worried it is not an IPS panel. Also the room it will sit in is rather bright.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,
John

IPS for viewing angles, colour reproduction, blacks. TN panel for quicker response.

That linked monitor is expensive, because it's curved. You'd need to sit in normal PC monitor range.

Also note that the closeness of a monitor isn't ideal for console gaming. The FOV will be off, and only a select few games allow you to change it.

    • IPS for viewing angles, colour reproduction, blacks

VA for blacks. Definitely not IPS.

Also note that the closeness of a monitor isn't ideal for console gaming.

I agree with this though. You'll also probably notice the lower refresh rate the closer you sit. IMO try for a 27" 1080p monitor and sit a bit further back. They're around $250 - 350 depending on brand and display type.

  • Does input lag worry you?

If it does, you could look at something like this -

    • Yeah, I would like it to be minimal:)
Thanks for the link. Is this a decent buy? Or will I be able to wait for a deal

      • I've been waiting on a deal for them for a while. :)

  • Thanks all. It would be a secondary monitor. So I have a TV but both me and my house mate have a ps4. So it would be for the occasion we want to game together.

I guess in essence this deal isn't that great.

I'm not a hard core gamer or anything, more so want looking for a good buy that won't piss me off when I'm losing:) (more frequently than winning)

    • Why not go big? This bad boy is pretty cheap, and has MVA panel which apparently boasts better colours than TN, better viewing angles and colour reproduction (like IPS) but without the high cost associated with IPS.

Response rate is 4ms though, which is a tad slower than TN panels, but sitting further back from the panel means you're less likely to notice ghosting.

Available for about $259 AUD via UMART or Mwave

      • Really nice. Appreciate it. Leaving towards this.

Last question am I going to find deals on this kind of monitor?

  • Sorry to bring this chat back to life.
    Just stumbled across this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/270891
Which would up my spending to the 300-350 mark.

    Any suggestions around there?
