Are OzBargainers Harassing Masters' Employees for Not Having Decent Bargains! ?

Saw this on News.com.au today…

http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/masters-staff…

Apparently customers are abusing or bullying Masters' employees over 'switched off staff' and a 'lack of bargains'.

I'm sure some decent bargains will come out eventually (however i'd say much of the stock will be shipped out to other hardware retailers, including Lowes), however whats everyone's opinion on customer's behaving badly?! Surely we can cut these employees some slack while they continue to support a failed venture, and probably themselves while they look for alternate work / wait to be transferred to other Woolworths Group businesses.

Have you ever harassed or bullied an employee into a bargain?

The other day they were selling old herbs which were almost dead, thought they might be a dollar but turned out they were $5!!!

$5 might be a bargain if those herbs looked like weed! ;)

These people will also give grief because of the perceived high bill at the vets, mechanic etc…
There are some bad eggs everywhere unfortunately.

Went to Masters on Tuesday, the only thing I saw with a sale were the sale signs

    • Why, were they for sale?

      • No, not even that..

        • +1

Hopefully that means they will still use them later for an actual sale.

          @inherentchoice:

This has to be shittiest closing down sale I've seen, nothing worth buying ever since they started the 'sale'… Hopefully a sale actually does happen. Miss the Dick Smith days… :(

How can you harass or bully an employee into a bargain?

    • Not sure, was hoping to find someone who had so we can ask them :)

  • Haven't been during the sale period, but from what I've read the 'sales' aren't really that anyway. Masters only have themselves to blame because of it. I do feel for the workers who will lose their jobs, as their on the front-line dealing with it all.

    • Yes they definitely made a mistake calling it a fire-sale, they aren't in any real hurry to clear stock and are just slowly winding it down.

I still find it funny all these news articles with hatred to masters.

They sold thier stock to a 3rd party
The 3rd party put all pricing to RRP
Stock is being marked down off RRP

There are heaps of bargains at the moment, it just depends what you want.
    Weber BBQ for 20%
Appliances are all priced well now
Baby stuff for around the house
The display kitchens were sold for a fraction of thier costs($20k kitchen for $4k)
Tiles, carpet are marked down and quite cheap
Electrical cable, power points and similar stuff
Even soft drinks from the fridges are cheap

There are some expensive things yes, their own imported brand crap, the huge amount of garden pots, lighting

Most people go in with the idea that will get a side by side fridge freezer for $500, or A $500 drill marked down to $100 or 6 burner barbecues for next to nothing

The good deals will get snapped up fast, and most items of interest are gone, when it's at a min of 40% it will be junk left, and that's what the company want, best return on spending.

  • Silly entitled AUstralians.

You would think that after the Dick Smith 'sale' debacle we would be a little smarter than this. A few get the bargains, the vast majority miss out.

I have never seen so many cars parked out the front of the Adelaide Masters store. Sad to see that the only interest people pay to the store is when it's about to leave. I have walked in there a couple of times and walked out empty handed. I just cannot find any bargains. 10% off a lawnmower does not set my heart aflutter.

same. and I noticed that most of the stuff that had 10% off had been marked up 10% before the discount…or they really have given up on comparing prices. I found they had 20% of light globes but they were still ridiculously expensive…but at my local Woolies, they were 25% off and so I bought a few.

Judging by the customers' reactions, there's obviously a problem here.

    1. The sale itself not living up to expectations or
    2. The customers have expectations that are way too high for a supposed "closing down" sale.

I actually think it's a bit of both.

Either way, the staff shouldn't be harassed - they're just there to earn a living. I'm sure they hate the sale as much as the customers do.

    • I've been there about 5 times (different locations) since the "main" sale started and the staff are well and truly disengaged. I was looking to purchase a $2000 item, and most of the staff were talking to the receivers (i'm guessing). Every other time, they are just labelling stock. They really don't give a shit, but to be honest, I can't blame them.

the staff were disengaged long before this sale. they were never engaged to start with what lots of the complaints have been about. staff couldn't help anyone. i went in a few times and they were young people standing around doing nothing and couldn't tell me where the most common items were, just said i don't know and didn't bother getting someone who did know - unlike bunnings who walk you to the product you want. i asked for wire and she said right at the end of the store is some and right at the other end is some.

  • Sadly the staff you get to deal with have no input into Ma$ter$ pricing.
    It's called 'shooting the messenger'.
Yet they are the ones coping the brunt of our disappointment at the media hype failing to live up to corporate decisions.
Remember, they don't have a job when Ma$ter$ closes, so I'm sure they are very happy with the current situation and would love to hear how you are disappointed in the level of 'discount' you are missing out on.

Politely ask the front line staff if something is amiss, if they can't deal with it simply ask for a manager and then move up the corporate chain as needed.

It's tough to give a good deal at Masters, doesn't mean you you can harass staff. Really disappointing
