Hi, I am just wondering if i buy one of those Telstra/optus/voda $2 SIMS, can i somehow activate it, without adding value/recharging? i only wanted to receive SMS on this phone, (receiving voice call would be nice but not a must).
Cheers.

Aldi SIM works too, and with just $5 starter pack the thing lasts you 356 days
Why 9 days less than a year?
It's a leap year thing
leap years are only 1 day difference not 9,
could you explain?
How long do you need it for?
I had a free Logan sim that lasted about 8 weeks for receiving sms's.
Other wise Aldi.
i need it for about 2-3 months. i am just wondering if the $2 sims does work without top up. an aspiring OzB, i pour scorn on the extra $3 Aldi sim atracts!:)
I'm pretty certain that without the first recharge, your sim with a zero balance will expire within a month.
You will get a sms asking you to buy balance otherwise the service will get disconnected
This is on Amaysim btw
Free Lyca Mobile SIM. Added bonus: if you activate it online (not over the phone) then they give you $5 credit that you can use to make texts/calls.
Amaysim as you go will be free forever I believe.

You can pick up a $2 sim at the supermarket and activate it as an "as you go" plan.
Cheers mate!
What you are trying to achieve sounds pretty easy
