    Hello
Are any of these deals posted above worth getting?
Or is it better to wait for a deal around boxing day/xmas and score one then?

    Thanks.

The htct390 is an excellent sounding soundbar especially at that price

  • Does anyone know whether we can use our Catalogue vouchers for the ebay sale?

    • No, that voucher is for direct purchase from TGG, not via their ebay site

  • -1

I don't see those prices you listed?

    • Have to apply voucher CGOOD20 at checkout to get 20 percent off the listed price.

    No stock in Canberra.

I got the last one a week ago at the fyshwick store. It was the display model. Paid $170 because that weekend there was some $20 of $100 spend promotion. It's a pretty sick soundbar.

      • Great purchase enjoy!

      • The Panasonic?

  • Was just about to buy the Sony HTCT390.. but I can see at one stage recently it could have been bought for a tad less from another post when Jb Hifi had a 40% off soundbars
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/258071

    Happy to skip it.

    • +3

Yep but that only comes round like a once a yr if that

      • Agreed. $300 is rare price.

        • -1

I'm sure it will come round again even at this rare price or perhaps even rarer :)

        • +1

          @wchau:

You must be a very tough shopper. It's not even $4 more expensive than the previous deal.

Are you waiting for petrol to go down to 99c again =P

        • @gummibear:Wrong gummibear.. :P - With the 5% off storewide mentioned it was $284 vs $303 .. so abit more than the $4 you suggest

$19 difference is a deal breaker… kinda like when you see a good online deal and then broken by the delivery costs. :)

    Is the sub really wireless?

The instructions show a wired connection

    http://www.panasonic.com/content/dam/pim/au/en/SC/SC-HTB/SC-…

The product announcement from April this year doesn't say it has a wireless sub

"The new SC-HTB685 and SC-HTB18 soundbars are accompanied by a down-firing subwoofer, wireless in the SC-HTB685."

    http://news.panasonic.com.au/2016/04/29/panasonic-announces-…

    • +1

Agreed, does not appear to be a wireless sub. Seems like the only wireless it has is bluetooth for a device to connect to it as an audio source only.

    • +1

Yeah a little confusing, lots retailers say Wireless

    • +1

It has a wireless connection to the soundbar, other then that it has a power cable.

    • Made this mistake on this model. Thought it was wireless sub, but it's wireless Bluetooth.

Also wasn't overall impressed with quality, ended up selling on gumtree and have this model

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-HW-K450-Soundbar-300W…

Bough it over the Sony model, as the Bar has a smaller footprint and also includes wall mount brackets.

Couldn't be happier, great bass. Audio Quality fantastic for price. 300w over 120w ect. ect.

Guess you get what you pay for

      • 300w over 120w

The Sony Soundbar is also 300w. And is substantially cheaper here than the Samsung. Which Sony model are you referring to?

        • -1

That sony sound bar was the same advertised price as the Samsung at my time of purchase

The bar is bigger than the Samsung, and it looks crap mounted on the wall.

        • -1

@Calmago: Sorry but that doesn't add up. You've previously said that the Sony soundbar was 120w, whereas the one being discussed here is the 300w one.

        • -1

          @elektron:

I didn't say anything about the Sony soundbar been 120w. I"m comparing the Panasonic 120w and the Samsung 300w that i purchased to replace it.

      • +2

        but it's wireless Bluetooth

Yeah, not like it has wired Bluetooth? :P

  • In the market for a sound bar and the Sony seems like good value for the 300 dollar mark. Anyone have any experience with this model at all?

    • +2

I bought it for $300 at JB HiFi when they were 40% off.

It has ok sound (nothing mind blowing) for the price. The bass is a little underpowered given the size of the sub but that's expected. Streaming to it via Bluetooth is handy and given that it's quite short (the speaker grill is on an angle), it should sit in front of any TV and not impede the screen (not an issue your TV is wall mounted). The soundbar also comes with wall mounts.

If you're just looking to improve the sound compared to TV speakers, it is great bang for your buck! I'm happy with it.

      Basic review here - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YJFUJsY7_6E

      • Thanks mate.
I have a 70" Sony TV sitting on a low cabinet.
Have a home theater set up already, but I really dislike the sound of the TV speakers, so looking for a bit of an improvement without having to have my amp turned on all day and night.

        • +1

The ARC should work nicely if you have ARC on a HDMI input on your TV, ie the soundbar should turn on and off when the TV turns on and off and the volume on the TV remote should control the soundbar volume (ARC should disable the TV speakers as well).

        • @Stix: I suppose it only works with same brand devices?

        • +2

          @Colombian:

No, I have an LG TV and it works with the Sony soundbar after a bit of fiddling. I think ARC is a standard so TVs and soundbars should talk to each other (I'm sure there are incompatibilities though).

That said, I did come across an audio sync issue when watching a movie from Apple TV 3 (Apple TV 3 to LG TV then out to soundbar via ARC). I haven't done much troubleshooting but looks like ARC might be to blame (YMMV). I probably need to do more testing.

          https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5309306?tstart=0
"I discovered the root cause of my issues were due to HDMI's Audio Return Channel (ARC) function.

My original setup was like this:
Apple TV HDMI —-> Television HDMI Input —-> Television HDMI ARC Output —-> Audio System HDMI Input.

When I changed the Apple TV HDMI to connect directly to the Audio System HDMI Input, all audio sync problems were resolved.
Apple TV HDMI —-> Audio System HDMI Input."

          http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2140239
"I've a Philips TV and soundbar and found that going via ARC 'only' from TV to soundbar is awful when it comes to sync issues - the sound always comes after the picture and, as all audio sync settings on all the kit I have just delay sound even further, there's no easy way of dealing with it.

So, even though ARC is supposedly infallible, I've found I've had to input my SKY box directly into the soundbar via optical cable and my games consoles directly into the soundbar via HDMI… anything going through the TV first ends up with a delay. In researching the issue I've found many people having this same problem, even with TV/soundbar combos supposedly 100% compatible (same manufacturer, for example…)"

        • @Stix: Thanks for the info Stix.

  • Might try this if I don't like the Aldi one I'm picking up on Saturday.
    https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-15-…

    • +2

Aldi one is apparently quite bad! There were some previous reviews in another thread

      • Thanks for that… I liked the splitting speakers if I felt like it idea…
but I guess I'll save the 2 trips (one to buy and one to return!)

  • +3

Have seen the Aldi one working and it's a shocker. Sounded like a little cassette player I got for Xmas back in the early 80's.

  • Comments on the Samsung HW-K550? It is 3.1 and has caught my attention because of that.

    Edit: also the DTS.

    • 3.1 apparently "centres the dialogue" over the 2.1 systems. I guess the additional centre speaker makes the audio clearer to those sitting in the peripheral areas.

  • Any feedback on the Sony 390 soundbar.?? Is it worthy of long term purchase? Good value?

    • Scroll up. :)

      • I think I'm going to take a bite on this 390 model. Not expecting to be overwhelmed, but it's got to be better than the 120w Panasonic at little under half price?

  • any differences between 4.1ch and 3.1ch in terms of real life comparisons?

  • can any of these deals be picked up in store or can a good guys gift card be used?

  • A pity the "Contact Us" is not a valid option on Good Guys eBay site. I prefer to buy at Good Guys or JB and I had several questions I would like to ask.

I don't know anything about BluTooth (seriously). Our Panasonic DVD and BluRay players (all wired connections) sound fine on our Panasonic Smart TV. I was wondering if the advertised item would be suitable for sons ipad Air2 music (and/or videos) as his last speaker system (which was wired … and his previous iPad sat on a special dock). How, if so, does one set these things up?

  • +2

Went into good guys in Perth. To look at the Sony 390 as above at $300 from eBay 20%
They said Sony sound bar only compatible with Sony TV or other Sony devices. Went on sales pitch of LG….
After failed LG G4, failed LG TV and faulty LG stereo sound system, I walked away. They talked me out of the Sony I went in to view, and pushed me away by the LG pitch.

    • Well I wouldn't believe that. I just got a Sony TV with a Samsung soundbar. Connected them through HDMI ARC and that was it. TV recognized the soundbar instantly and I can turn on the TV and sound bar from my TV remote.

Looks like the 'sale' is over. the regular prices are back
