Housemate scored us a washing machine but it doesn't have the lint filter. eBay search reveals cheapest is $37 but I can get ones for other brands for under $10.
Any ideas?

Finding random parts for things like this could a challenging exercise.
You could actually make something that does the job yourself.Here's an example:
