Replacing Halogen Lights with LED's

It's something I've wanted to do for ages and have been (stupidly) putting it off. I'm not after any smart LED's or creating a smarthome with automatic lights and different colours, just the bulbs to replace the existing expensive and heat producing halogens.

I've had a look at a few websites about what sort of LED's to get (in terms of Colour, Brightness and connection) but I'm looking for the best place to buy them.

Should I be wary of buying from Ali Express? Would it be a case of pinching pennies to lose dollars in the long run if they don't have similar safety standards, or are they the sort of product that are pretty ubiquitous worldwide?

Otherwise, where would be a good place to look for them?

Thanks in advance :)

  • Just check the voltage. Downlights come in regular voltage and low voltage variants.

  • I'm going to get some from aldi https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/268764 but not sure whether it will work with my existing transformer.

  • Which state are you in?. Oh Adelaide.

  • Master - Not sure if they have any deals but they usually stock them and are now closing down. Maybe you could find a bargain.

  • Not all LEDs are compatible with your halogen transformers. Try and get your hands on some Primsal LEDs. They are very compatible with existing halogen transformers and are heavily used in Vic under the government scheme.
