Xiaomi Mi5 Pro (128GB ROM, 4GB RAM) for $532.64 after code

After looking around a bit on AliExpress, this seems to be a good price for the 128GB version

Description also indicates that the global ROM has been pre-installed

Note: Does not support Band 28

Standard disclaimer…if something goes wrong, you might very well be on your own, or ship the device back to China at your own expense…

Around the same price as a LG G5 32Gb + 128 MSD pass

G5 is indeed good price but there have been some reports of boot loops… And build quality is questionable

      • It still can't justify $100 difference.

      • +2

Is the mi5 pro any better build wise?

This shows its pretty cheaply constructed

        https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=CfS6_PKLMks

No band 28 on this either.

        Camera not as good either.

Still pretty cheap for a snapdragon 820 phone, however some comprises for the price.

I find this guy's "tests" little more than clickbait.

There's no objectivity to his "bend tests"…unless there's the same amount of force objectively applied to each device using a 3-point bend test rig, his tests are meaningless.

How do we know he doesn't exert more force on some devices than others?

And how many of us actually bend our phones that far in the pocket? Or take a flame to it?

    • MSD is much slower than internal memory and internal memory has much better compatibility with installing apps than trying to install an app to the SD card.

If u pay with paypal initially while buying this, you can claim postage back from paypal if u need to send it bck for warranty claim.

Still does involve mucking around with international postage and long wait times…

Just thought I'd mention it as disclosure with the deal

        Fair enough mate.

  • How much does band 28 matter for Telstra?

I'm using a Oneplus One (which I believe doesn't have B28) on Telstra in Melbourne, haven't really noticed, but given that I've never had the band I wouldn't know if I was missing out.

    • I makes a difference to indoor coverage and B28 allows for band aggregation for better speeds.

You'll likely notice better indoor reception with a B28 equipped device on telstra and optus.

Just found this self answer on Telstra's crowdsupport page, but couldn't edit because you replied:

          @Cunningham:

Yeah. I imagine Band 8 becomes important after 2G is officially shut down and many of those transmitters are upgraded to 4G

        • @Domingo - thank you for your service to the community! I was very curious as to which bands are in use and where… now I have a better idea. Now to find what Optus are using and where :D

    • FOMO… Just enjoy the thing and don't worry about what might be! I've noticed no real difference between my Nexus 6p (w B28) and my previous phone without it

    • I've got the Mi5 with no B28 and I'm on telstra.. I dont know what all the scare mongering is about. Check the oztowers.com and you'll probably find half the towers in your area dont even have B28 anyway. I still get 4G reception at work in an old concrete basement area where I couldnt get anything with my old phone. Yes B28 would be nice, but its not a deal breaker like everyone is suggesting.

I purchased the 32GB model while in China, i'm very happy with it!

It was difficult to flash to global ROM and I ended up paying $50 to have it done.

Gotta love China. Outstanding specs for the price.

I think this is a very pretty phone. Reminds me of the Zune HD, which was an underrated device in my opinion.

  • +1

Mi5 will be a much better value, 1gb more ram and 64gb extra storage do no warrant additional $150.

  • +2

Ebay and some Aliexpress sellers have the mi5s for $550 for the same spec, was just looking at them this morning. Might be a better option?

  • Top spec Mi5 prices from Xiaomi ain't exactly competitive right now, I mean in China the old 128GB Mi5 costs more than the new 128GB Mi5s. It must be that ceramic back that pushes the prices up.

  • Hi 2g or 4g phone?

  • Now that's more expensive than G5 isn't it. Nearly $100 more expensive.

  • +1

    Need a deal on Mi5s!

For those interested, HK Goldway on AliExpress has the white for $519.89 and the black for $546.46 including DHL shipping. Also comes with the Official Global ROM. https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Mi5…

Better value than Pixel. If I'd need a phone now, I'd buy this.

  • Can I put the wifi card into monitor mode on this?

  • For another ~$100 you can get the Mi5S Plus 64gb version which is the latest model

    • What are the advantages over this one?

    • link to buy?

  • +1

If anyone buying should see here to know how durable your phone is, but it is still a very good price.

I would still buy it even after see this, cause I am going to use a case. Looking forward to mi5s

  • don't think it does much more than $330 motorola g4 plus …. 1080p dual sim finger print reader android 6 band 28 etc.

    • And G4 plus is plagued with overheating issues so the phone will be a better heater in Winter.(/s)

  • What are the chances Xiaomi releases a Mi 5 (or 6 or 7) with B28? Thoughts anyone?

  • No band 28 is pretty much a deal breaker sadly…… :(

  • Some say they have unlocked Band 28. http://en.miui.com/thread-311977-1-1.html
